LG to unveil Honeycomb tablet at CES 2011

According to the Korea Times, LG is looking to unveil some cool stuff at next year’s Consumer Electronics Show. That’s not unusual in itself, but we’re talking about their dual-core Android phone, the Optimus 2X, mobile 3D TVs, and drumroll please…their very first Android tablet.

The Optimus Pad will feature an 8.9″ touchscreen display and run on Android 3.0 aka Honeycomb. This tablet will fit squarely between the iPad’s 10″ display and the Galaxy Tab’s 7″ display.

Archos ships 250GB Archos 70 Tablet

Today Archos has started shipping their larger capacity Archos 70 with a spinning 250GB hard drive. This new larger capacity Archos 70 250GB shares nearly all the same specifications of the SSD version, including 800 x 480 pixel (WVGA) multi-touch screen, 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor with 3D OpenGL ES 2.0 graphic accelerator and HDMI output.

The main differences would be the lack of a Micro SD card slot, along with the expected increase in size and weight to accommodate the large 250GB HDD. The Archos 70 250Gb version is available for $350 with the Archos 70 8GB SSD version costing $275.

Elliptic Labs 3D gesture-sensing dock

The iPad is great, but the one thing it doesn’t have is the ability to recognize gestures. That would sure come in handy when in the kitchen making recipes, so you can keep your screen smudge free. Elliptic Labs to the rescue.

The company has been working on its 3D gesture interface for years and it is finally ready to show off an actual product in the form of a motion-sensing iPad dock prototype making its debut at CES in a few weeks. It gives you full control without having to touch your device at all.

Motorola Android Tablet spotted

We recently had a glimpse of the Android-powered Motorola tablet and now someone over in Taiwan claims to have the device, and they have shared a screenshot of a 3D live wallpaper.

According to the source, it will have a 7-inch version and a 10-inch version with the latter being the one we’ve seen already. The device in the picture above supposedly features a 1280 x 800 pixel display, an NVIDIA Tegra 2 T20 dual-core chip, gyroscope, 5-megapixel camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 32GB embedded MMC and a microSD card slot.

Man claims Motorola Droid 2 exploded in his ear

The Motorola Droid 2, like a rookie soldier in Vietnam, has just claimed it’s first ear. The Droid 2 used by Aron Embry of Texas supposedly blew up on him when he was getting into his car. In an interview with Fox4 he claims, “I heard a pop. I didn’t feel any pain initially. I pulled the phone down. I felt something dripping. I realized that it was probably was blood.”

He goes on to explain: “As I got into the bathroom and once I got to the mirror and saw it, it was only then I kinda looked at my phone and noticed the screen had appeared to burst outward.” Maybe the phone didn’t like his death grip?

3D is all the rage. It has assaulted our TVs and now it wants to make a splash in the world of electric shavers. The Philips Norelco SensoTouch 3D electric shaver is said to offer superior shaving performance without sacrificing skin comfort or convenience.

It is powered by a lithium-ion battery for portability and has three dynamic cutting elements mounted on a GyroFlex 3D platform, allowing it to conform to the curves and angles of your face, while the AquaTec seal lets you shave wet or dry. Anything to shove 3D in the name, I suppose.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF2 announced

It seems like we’ve been hearing rumors of a successor to the GF1 forever now and now Panasonic has officially announced the Lumix DMC-GF2, Panasonic’s smallest and lightest interchangeable lens system camera. Some features include a 12.1 megapixel Live MOS sensor, compatibility with the company’s 3D Lumix G 12.5mm F12 interchangeable lens and a body that is seven percent lighter and nineteen percent smaller than it’s predecessor.

There’s also a three-inch touchscreen, a contrast AF system, a newly designed Touch Q user interface, internal dust reduction system and you can capture 1920 x 1080/60i video in AVCHD. The GF2 will ship in January, available in silver, red and black, and bundled with a 14mm F2.5 pancake kit lens or a 14-42mm zoom lens.

Samsung announces two new Full HD Monitors

Samsung has just added two new Full HD monitors to its lineup with the 22-inch SyncMaster 2243DW and 24-inch SyncMaster 2443DW, both for the European market. These are aimed at business users and both are widescreen, delivering a 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution.

Other features include a 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio on the 2243DW and a 70,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio on the 2443DW, 300 cd/m2 brightness and 5ms response time. They are also compliant with TCO 5.0 standard and have D-Sub, DVI and DisplayPort connectors.

Toshiba Satellite A665 3D notebook coming in October

If you have been waiting to get your hands on a 3D notebook that can shoot that 3D video out to your TV, Toshiba has a new offering coming next month that will fit the bill. The notebook is called the Satellite A665 3D Edition and it uses NVIDIA 3D Vision technology.

The notebook ships with a single set of active 3D glasses and has a 15.6-inch HD LED backlit screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. The machine can be fitted with Core i5-460M or Core i7-740QM CPUs. The machine has up to 6GB of RAM available and has 640GB of storage.

LG 1080p 3D A510 notebook breaks cover

LG has announced a new notebook computer that has 1080p resolution and support 3D content called the A510. The new notebook is a 15.6-inch machine and its 3D screen uses passive glasses and is LED backlit. Power for the notebook comes from a range of processor options.

The options for CPUs include Core i5 840QM and 740GM, Core i5 580M, 560M, and 460M, as well as Core i3 380M and 370M processors. The notebook runs Windows 7 and comes with a normal pair of passive 3D glasses and a clip on set for those who wear glasses.

Runco outs crazy expensive projectors costing more than some homes

When it comes to home theaters you can have the average mans set up with a nice big screen TV and surround sound. Then you can have the high-end rich home theater gurus set up with sound like the theater and a projector that can blind astronauts on the ISS as it passes over your house.

Runco has unveiled a couple new projectors that are aimed squarely at the rich people wanting the best and having the loot to pay for it. The two new projectors are the Runco SC-50d and the SC-60d. They are the top of the line from Runco and are custom built. The projectors have dual lamps and support 3D content with active or passive systems.

Toshiba Qosmio X500 arriving September 26

Toshiba has updated its X500 gaming station with NVIDIA’s new high-end GTX 460M discrete graphics, which has 3D, Optimus, and DirectX 11.

They have priced it at $1,300. It features an 18.4-inch screen, Core i5 or i7 CPU choices, SSD storage options, up to 8GB of RAM, a backlit keyboard, and simulated 5.1 audio coming out of Harman Kardon speakers. It’s pricey, but those specs are worth it. This thing is a beast.

Droid 2 R2-D2 Edition boot animation

A new animation for the R2-D2 Edition Motorola Droid 2 has shown up online and it looks like the official version. Star Wars fans will love this one for sure. The Droid 2 R2-D2 edition features the same specifications as the standard edition, with a 3.7 inch WVGA TFT display with a resolution of 480 x 854.

Other specifications include a 1GHz processor, 8GB of built in storage plus a microSD card slot that comes with an 8GB card as standard, and it can be upgraded to a 32GB micro SD card.

Efika MX Smartbook from Genesi available to purchase

I will say right up front that I never really saw the point of smartbooks. They are the same basic size as a netbook, though they are a pound or so lighter. The big downside in my mind has always been the performance of a smartbook.

Inside the smartbooks netbook looking shell hides hardware with more in common with a smartphone. If you like the smartbook promise a new machine from Genesi has landed called the Efika MX Smartbook. The machine can be purchased now for $349.
