RadioShack officially announces subsidized Acer One netbook

Posted in Acer by Shane McGlaun on December 12th, 2008

Acer Aspire OneNetbooks are selling in huge numbers this holiday season. Leading the netbook pack in sales is the Acer Aspire One netbook. Most netbooks are created pretty much equal today, but the One provides a good mix of portability and price.

Earlier this week I reported on the leaked sales flyer that claimed RadioShack would be selling an AT&T 3G equipped version of the One for $99 with a 2-year agreement for mobile broadband service. RadioShack has officially announced the $99 deal and confirmed the story just as we ran it on the 9th.

Daily Deal: ViaMichelin X970 Portable GPS

Posted in Dillyeo Daily Deal by dillyeo on December 8th, 2008

The ViaMichelin X-970 arrived in the US around a year and a half ago. It comes fully loaded with 64MB of RAM, a 400-MHz processor, and a SiRFStarIII GPS receiver technology. On a 2GB SD card Navteq maps covering the U.S. and Canada are stored and supplied. The X-970 also includes 3.6 million points of interest, including the Michelin Green Guide, an aggregation of tourist information with everything from price ranges to hours of operation to historical context.

The X-970 also has Real time traffic capability, Bluetooth capabilities, and is compatible with many mobile devices for handling phone calls on the road, hands free. Despite what has been described as a difficult learning curve, and despite some of it’s less impressive, more frustrating features, the pros definitely counterbalance the cons. Also, for what it costs right now on Dillyeo, I can’t really find a better GPS value on the internet, though you might want to check that out for yourself.

Microsoft confirms Xbox 360 Arcade memory upgrade

Posted in Xbox 360 by Darrin Olson on December 3rd, 2008

Xbox 360 Arcade to get memory upgradeMicrosoft has now confirmed rumors about upgrading the internal memory for its Xbox 360 Arcade game console to have 256MB of internal storage. The upgrade will allow more games and media to be stored inside without the need for an external memory card.

In the current 360 Arcade models, users were required to use an external 256MB card to store information. This worked well for the most part but left the memory open to being removed at the wrong time giving the system adverse effects, and to just plain losing the memory card.

This guy made this video to prove that he is better then you at Guitar Hero 3 using drumsticks. He has an advantage that you don’t. A custom midi controller designed to play as if you were drumming. He also obviously kicks ass playing the drums.

He’s obviously crazy. I’m pretty sure he’s animal from the Muppets, all shaved down and incognito. Amazing yes. Also amazingly nerdy. What else can you say?

Tectoy’s Zeebo gaming console

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on November 12th, 2008

Tectoy’s Zeebo gaming consoleTectoy has announced the Zeebo, a 3G network-based gaming console that will launch in Brazil in July of 2009, then show up in other markets after a few months. Apparently the idea is that the console forever connected to a 3G network. That conection won’t cost the gamer anything, with all the games and content paid for and downloaded through the network.

Action Hero 3D, Evil Prey, and Quake will come preloaded on the console. Yeah, not some of my first choices either, but they aren’t dead set on competing with the Wii, Xbox 360 or PS3 obviously. They’re trying to appeal to those who can not afford expensive consoles and games, despite a crazy $599 price tag itself. Games will cost between $10 and $30. Fail.

Trackball mod puts some retro on your Wiimote

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on November 12th, 2008

Trackball mod puts some retro on your WiimoteThe modders over at Acid Mods can’t help but defile all of their Wiimotes. Despite the fact that that sounds just plain wrong, the results are pretty cool. The rapid fire switch was cool and brought back memories of the Turbo Advance.

Now they’ve modded a trackball into a Wiimote, which also functions as D-pad and A button. This is pretty useful as it puts both under your thumb at the same time and should make web browsing interesting. Soon there will be an order page and instructions for adding the trackball to other controllers, like a PSP, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360 and PS3. Now we just have to get Missile Command and Centipede on the Wii and we’ll be set.

EA ships Mirror’s Edge to retailers

Mirrors EdgeLast weekend I downloaded the Mirror’s Edge demo for my PS3 and spent a bit of time playing. The game is very cool and fun. You are a free runner that moves atop the buildings in a massive city delivering messages.

To get from one place to the other you have to run, jump, and fight your way there across rooftops. The game has a very cool premise and offers very original gameplay. EA announced this week that it has shipped Mirror’s Edge to retailers worldwide.

Tom Clancy EndWar gets voice command capability

Posted in Games by Shane McGlaun on November 6th, 2008

Tom Clancy EndWarI like Tom Clancy, his books are fun to read, movies based on his books are usually good, and I have had lots of fun with games based on his works. Clancy has a new video game coming out with Ubisoft that adds some new and cool features that we haven’t seen on console games.

The new game is called EndWar and Ubisoft says the title has a new and unique control method for the squad-based gameplay. EndWar will be offered on the Xbox 360 and the PS3 consoles. The title is set on the battlefield of a future World War 3.
