BioShock 2 ships globally

Posted in Games by Shane McGlaun on February 9th, 2010

One of the coolest games that I played in the last several years on the PC was BioShock. The game was tons of fun and had a very original storyline and fantastic graphics. 2K Games has announced today that the latest entry in the BioShock franchise, BioShock 2 is now shipping.

The game is available globally on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 systems and carries an M rating. This time around, the player is in the shoes of a Big Daddy, one of the creepiest characters from the original game. The events in the single player game take place as a sequel to the original.

AT&T makes it easy to track family members on the iPhone

Posted in Apple by Shane McGlaun on February 8th, 2010

AT&T has offered a service for a while now that lets family members track their family using their phones. The service used a map on a computer or software on some of its mobile devices to show where a family member was at the time.

AT&T has announced that the FamilyMap app for the iPhone is now available. The app lets a user track the location of other family members on their talk plan directly from the iPhone. The app lets the user set up areas that kids are allowed to travel in and places where they are allowed to be.

Xbox Live service ending for original Xbox and games

Posted in Microsoft by Shane McGlaun on February 5th, 2010

There are probably many gamers out there who still play games on their original Xbox console or still play original Xbox titles on the Xbox 360. Microsoft is announced that starting on April 15 the Xbox Live service for original games and consoles is being shut down.

The decision wasn’t made lightly according to Marc Whitten. The reason for stopping the service for the old titles and consoles is that updates need to be made to the service to support future plans. Those updates are said to not be supported by the original console and games.

Sony thinks about charging for PSN

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on February 3rd, 2010

One of the advantages of owning a PS3 over an Xbox 360 is that Microsoft charges for its Xbox Live service and PSN is free. But maybe not for long. You may or may not have to pay for PSN in the future.

In November, a presentation slide revealed that Sony had a paid subscription plan in the works for PSN. And now Peter Dille in an interview with IGN says that “it’s something we’re thinking about”.

Spawn HD-720 shipping

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on February 3rd, 2010

Spawn Labs’ Spawn HD-720 is ready to ship, giving you a whole new way to play with your Xbox 360, Xbox, Playstation 3, Playstation 2 and Nintendo Gamecube, whether playing with your friends or being a loner. Enjoy your gaming at home or take it on the road through a network-connected computer.

Are you confused? Put simply, let’s say you are at home and someone is watching the TV that your console is attached to. Just find a different room and play it over your home network. When traveling, you’ll need a broadband Internet connection. This is also a good way to capture video clips of your game so you can brag later.

Omega GM-1: Real drum set for Rock Band

Posted in Musical Instruments by Conner Flynn on February 1st, 2010

Sure, there are some mods for using a real drum set with Rock Band or Guitar Hero, but Omega Music Technology’s new GM-1 system is the first off-the-shelf option, which is great if you are DIY challenged. The kit is available on its own or bundled with a Pearl drum set. The system is equipped with individual sensors that detect each and every drum hit with “speed and accuracy”, so it should be pretty reliable.

You won’t have to worry about the neighbors or other members of your family getting annoyed either as there is support for mesh heads and a dampening system for the cymbals. If you go for the actual drum set package, you’ll also get some authentic drum heads. Omega even says that the system is a great way to learn to play the drums.

250GB add-on Xbox 360 HDD to hit Japan

Posted in Microsoft by Shane McGlaun on February 1st, 2010

We can never really have enough storage on our computers and other devices where we store the media that we generate and use each day. With digital cameras, camcorders and music proliferating along with digital download games and other content we can run out of space quickly on media servers and game consoles.

PC World reports that Microsoft is set to release a new add-on HDD for the Xbox 360 in Japan that has 250GB of storage space. The drive will also be offered in a stand-alone version as well. The new drive has previously been offered only in a bundle with a new console.

MiniPC Dual-Core Atom D510 ED510 Nettop

Posted in PCs by Conner Flynn on January 29th, 2010

We’ve seen the Pine Trail processor making its way into various nettops for a bit now and the MiniPC ED510 is the latest. It has 20W of power usage when idle and 31W at maximum. Not bad at all. And it runs without needing a fan, so that keeps it silent.

Some other features include a Dual-core Atom D510 (1.66GHz) Processor, 2x DIMM RAM slots (DDR2 800) (4GB max), Intel NM10 Express Chipset, GMA 3150 Graphics, 2.5” SATA HDD Bay, Gigabit LAN, 6 x USB 2.0, RJ45, PS/2 keyboard, PS/2 mouse, VGA, eSATA, audio jacks, HD Audo 5.1 Channel, and 1x Mini PCI-e slot.

Nokia X6 16GB gets official

Posted in Nokia by Conner Flynn on January 26th, 2010

Well, that didn’t take long. The Nokia X6 16GB is now official. Yesterday we told you about the pink version. The phone doesn’t have Comes With Music, but here’s some of what it does have:

This one features Symbian S60 5th edition, a 3.2-inch touchscreen display, 360 x 640, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, Ovi Maps, free navigation, TV out and a 5-megapixel camera.

Mad Catz’ new moddable fight stick for Wii

Posted in Wii Accessories by Conner Flynn on January 26th, 2010

The Wii may not be super powerful and you don’t necessarily think fighting games when you think of Nintendo’s console, but the release of Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom hopes to change all that. Mad Catz’s has a cool new Arcade FightStick to go with it.

Like other Mad Catz’s fightsticks, this one is moddable and even has a few features that the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions lack, like a toggle switch that will let the arcade stick control either the d-pad of the classic controller or the left or right analog stick. That means you’ll be able to use it with a bunch of Virtual Console titles. Awesome. Are you ready to fight?

Belkin Home Base wireless USB sharing

Posted in Belkin by Conner Flynn on January 26th, 2010

The Belkin Home Base merges wireless networking and USB connectivity in one device, with a small footprint. This gives users a simple way to share up to four USB devices from a central location. The Home Base will also allow one of your external hard drives to act as a media server if you have a DLNA set up.

It’s compatible with devices like the Xbox 360 or Sony PS3. Super convenient. We told you about this way back in September, but now it’s just $66 at Amazon. Better grab one.

Nokia X6 16GB gets a pink version

Posted in Nokia by Conner Flynn on January 25th, 2010

Nokia still has not announced the X6 16GB, but reports are already swirling around the interwebs that the device will be available multiple colors that aren’t available with the 32GB version. Apparently the 16GB version will be available in black, pink on white, and blue on white.

This one actually doesn’t look bad in pink. With the lower capacity, the price should go down some as well. The phone will probably not include Nokia’s Comes With Music (CWM) service. Aside from that, the 16GB version should be very similar to the 32GB version, with a 360 x 640 pixel touchscreen display, Wi-Fi, GPS, TV out, and 5-megapixel camera.

Alltel launches BlackBerry Curve 8530

Posted in BlackBerry, Curve by Conner Flynn on January 21st, 2010

The BlackBerry Curve 8530 has officially launched on Rogers’ network, so if you’ve been waiting for or find yourself needing a new phone, go for it. The contract is shorter and the price is nicer. This version of the phone will cost you $499, but after a $360 online discount and $100 mail-in rebate, we’re talking only $39.99 with a qualifying plan.

It will give you bragging rights since all of your T-Mobile friends have only 2G on the 8520. Totally worth it. So will you be getting one? Or passing?

Eolic: Foldable wind-powered generator

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on January 20th, 2010

The Eolic is a foldable, portable wind-powered generator for the masses. The idea is that you just set it up where a breeze is, and start turning that wind into energy for your TV, Xbox 360, whatever.

It’s certainly an idea whose time has come, but to be practical, it would need to generate a large amount of energy. You would also need windy days on a regular basis. But we like it and would love to give something like this a try.

Xbox 360 Transformers All Spark mod

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on January 20th, 2010

If you want to get the attention of some giant ass robots, then do what this guy did. Turn your XBox 360 into the All Spark. Just don’t be surprised when Optimus Prime shows up at your door and reaches through your house to get it.

Oh and the All Spark is supposed to turn all of your other stuff into robots, so this probably isn’t a good idea. Unless you like your XBox suddenly walking around and shooting at you. It’s a pretty sweet mod though. I just hope this guy is still in one piece.
