New Xbox 360 is official at $299, ships today

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on June 14th, 2010

Meet the new Xbox 360. It will launch today for $299. The old Elite will be $249 and the Arcade will drop to $149. The new console looks like a stealth Xbox in glossy black with touch-sensitive buttons. According to Microsoft it’s “whisper quiet,” with one large fan instead of two.

It has integrated 802.11n WiFi, five USB ports, and 250GB of storage on a removable hard drive, though it’s not the same drive as the old console, and older Memory Units won’t work, either. To upgrade you can use a USB-to-Xbox hard drive connector cable to migrate to the new box. What do you think?

The recently relaunched ESPN3 online portal is coming to Xbox 360. Exclusively. It was just announced during Microsoft’s pre-E3 press conference. Sportscenter hosts took to the stage demonstrating it, using footage from a USC / Ohio State game.

It has built in Kinect controller support, instant replays, highlights, polls and more, all accessible with your fingers or by the sound of your voice. It should be interesting to see how well this does. Should please many sports fans.

There has been no official confirmation, but word is that Microsoft could be ready to unveil an Xbox 360 Slim at E3. Sony has the PlayStation 3 slim after all and they do want to compete.

Let’s not forget that the PlayStation Move and Project Natal motion sensing controllers are just around the corner too. Things are heating up in the console wars. A slim Xbox 360 will be good as long as they don’t remove any important features to do it.

iMovie for iPhone

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on June 7th, 2010

HD video recording is one thing, but the iPhone 4 needs a way to edit these recordings on the phone itself. Enter iMovie for iPhone. At last, you can be the Steven Spielberg of the iPhone. Well, maybe not that good.

Nothing too fancy here. We are talking video editing on a phone after all, not a desktop. But you can combine various clips, add music, photos, titles and transitions as well as throw in some basic effects. The effects are from the desktop version of iMovie, so you’ll recognize them. You can export in 360p, 540p and 720p.

Stethoscope headphones

I’m not a doctor and I don’t play one on TV, but these headphone stethoscopes could make me a hit with the ladies. You know how they’re always on the lookout for doctors.

These are from creative agency Antrepo Design, but sadly they are not actual products. Not yet. Hopefully we’ll be able to buy these someday soon though. Take a deep breath. Again. What is it Doc? I’m not sure, but this Pink Floyd song is rocking.

Sony and HBO offer premium programs on PlayStation Network

Posted in Sony by Shane McGlaun on May 25th, 2010

I play many games on the PS3 with my kids, but that is all I really use the device for other than watching movies. We never use the PlayStation Network for anything other than the occasional online Motorstorm race. Sony and HBO has announced that you will soon be able to get premium HBO shows on the PlayStation Network.

The programs being offered will include some of the most popular HBO programs available like True Blood, Big Love, Entourage, The Sopranos and many more. There are multiple seasons of many of the shows available for purchase.

When it comes to high school graduation, most grads don’t want the sort of things that you would get on the average birthday. They want big-ticket items like computers, cars, and game consoles. Best Buy has a new bundle that gives the grad exactly what they want and saves the parent money.

The bundle includes an Xbox 360 Arcade game console and a notebook computer. The Xbox 360 Arcade is the same old console we already know about. There are two notebook options with the same hardware.

Project Natal to cost $200?

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on May 17th, 2010

Swedish retailers to the rescue! Looks like some Swedish retailers have listed the Xbox 360 motion controller Project Natal for 1,499 SEK, which means $200 in US money. If this is accurate, it isn’t looking good for Natal. Most games already cost $60.

This is not the finalized price point yet since it could be a placeholder figure, but if it does turn out to be accurate, I know that I would rather spend my money on quality games that don’t use Natal.

PS3 and Xbox 360 to get price cuts this year?

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on May 11th, 2010

Word on the street is that PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 could get some price changes later this year. According to the rumor, Sony could be planning an entry-level £200 (or $295) version of the PS3 that offers a smaller hard drive with a single controller.

While the Microsoft side of the rumor says that it might include the upcoming Natal with the Xbox 360, though there is talk of a possible version of it without Project Natal going for less than £100 ($147). And IF the rumor is true, Nintendo is also looking at a price drop in order to compete with the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
