Microsoft announced today the planned launch of the upgraded Xbox 360 Elite in Japan on October 11th. This launch will be an attempt to drive more attention to the game console whose sales have been lagging in Japan behind rivals Sony and Nintendo. Microsoft unveiled the 360 Elite version at the end of March with upgrades including a larger hard drive, a wireless controller, HDMI and an Xbox Live Gold membership.

Not only is Nintendo’s sales of the Wii game console staying ahead of the competition, but they are continuing to rise and pull further away from rival Sony’s PlayStation 3.

Namco Bandai is partnering with game controller maker Hori to offer a bundled package for the release of Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation. The bundle will include the game along with an Ace Combat 6 faceplate for the Xbox 360 and the Ace-Edge Flightstick accessory, which is the first flight simulator accessory made for the Xbox 360.

According to a report Thursday by NPD, the Nintendo Wii led the sales of current generation game consoles by once again beating out the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3. Nintendo sold 259,000 of the Wii game consoles with their new fangled controller last month, followed up by the Xbox 360 with 199,000 units sold and the PS3 selling 130,000 units. Microsoft has revealed its plans to launch a QWERTY style handheld keyboard add-on for its Xbox 360 game controller. In a company press release Microsoft said that the keyboard will connect directly into the Xbox 360 controller to support text and instant messaging even though they released a photo of what appears to be a keyboard/game controller that’s one unit.
