Wiimote for Xbox 360 coming this fall, PS3 version next year

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on March 25th, 2009

Wiimote for Xbox 360 coming this fall, PS3 version next yearInitially unveiled back in September of last year, the “Gametrak Freedom” motion controller for Xbox 360 and the PS3 returns after a makeover. It’s currently on display at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.

It should be available this fall for the Xbox 360, the PS3 version will likely follow next year. The Freedom obviously closely resembles the Nintendo Wii remote. In fact, it just looks like a bad knockoff. It will ship with a USB-port base station connected to two wands that sit on either side of your TV. Unlike the Wii remote, the Freedom won’t require line-of-sight. Instead it will use “ultrasonic 3D positioning” to relay the remote’s position via pulses.

LG Versa getting a game pad module?

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on March 16th, 2009

LG Versa getting a game pad module? This is interesting, but not entirely surprising. The LG Versa was built to be modular after all. It’s just that the only module we’ve seen so far is the QWERTY keyboard. That could change with this upcoming game controller that resembles an NES controller.

Starting April 1st you can get one for $29. We don’t think it’s an April Fools’ joke, but we’ll see. This means that you can turn the LG VX9600 into a nice looking gaming device for only $29. The only problem we see is, uh… a lack of games.

Red Xbox 360 Elite on the way

Posted in Xbox 360 Elite by Conner Flynn on February 19th, 2009

Red Xbox 360 Elite on the wayWell, this makes it almost official. A new red Xbox 360 Elite is coming. This news came via the usual route. Sort of: First it began as a rumor, then a retailer inventory listing and then an innocent mention in a New Zealand press release.

An MS New Zealand promotion for the upcoming release of Halo Wars, buy a 360, get a free copy of the game, explicitly excluded “the Red Xbox 360 Elite console which is exclusive to EB games.” Yeah, the one that hasn’t been officially announced. Like my other question of the evening concerning color, I ask again: Would you get a new red Xbox 360? Or no?

Xbox 360 arcade cabinetIf you’re a serious gamer, Solomods has a custom-built Xbox 360 arcade machine that they’ll sell you for $2,250. The original Midway arcade cabinet was once The Simpsons game, but the Microsoft game console has been added and it’s been repainted and given a new monitor and front-loading disk tray, two joysticks, a 60GB hard drive, WiFi, along with display and volume control.

It also supports your favorite wireless controller. They want to sell this thing so if you order it, he’ll throw in an illustrated owners manual. It’s available for pick-up in Cleveland, Ohio. What are you waiting for?

XCM Dominator joystick for PS3 ships this week for $89.99One thing is for sure, XCM really knows how to get a gamer’s attention. After making us wait several months, they’ve announced that the Dominator Joystick for PlayStation 3 is ready to ship this week.

The programmable arcade-style stick includes such things as Combo Attacker and Rapid Fire mode. Is it cheating if your arcade stick allows it? I say no. The four memory buttons will let you store macros and keep them handy. To top it all off, this gaming joystick has super cool blue LEDs. You can pre-order now if you want for $89.99.

The dreamGEAR Quad Docks feature four charging wells and custom LED charging indicators that signal when the controllers are dead, charging, or fully charged. Multiple controller chargers for Xbox, Wii, and PS3

dreamGEAR Controller ChargersI know I am not the only gamer out there who has a Wii, PS3 and an Xbox 360 with wires and controllers lying around everywhere charging. I have a charger that will charge four Wii controllers at once, and there are several others on the market.

What you don’t see a lot of are multiple controller chargers for the PS3, though there are a few, and the Xbox 360. The Wii charger is unique in that not only will it charge four Wii Remotes at once; it also has a spot for charging four AA rechargeable batteries for the Wii Balance Board.

Xbox 360 modded car

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on January 1st, 2009

Xbox 360 modded carApparently, this modder hated the thought of leaving his console home alone while he was out and about in the world. Separation anxiety no doubt. Yes, this is an Xbox 360 Console and the Controllers Modded in a car! An Xbox 360 in a car, you ask? Yes. And look how well the car and the Xbox get along. It’s like they were meant for each other.

The XBox 360 has been embedded in to the dash while 1 controller rests in the steering wheel and the other sits comfortably in front of the gear shift. It’s a great idea, but the one fatal flaw is that at some point, you will have to park that car and walk away. At which time a thief throws a rock through the window and makes off with your console. It really is a beauty though.

Xbox 360 with a cool Domo-kun paint job

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on December 29th, 2008

Xbox 360 with a cool Domo-kun paint jobWhile this isn’t the most mind blowing console mod we’ve ever seen, this paint job gives your Xbox 360 a bit of Japanese flair. It was painted by deviantART member Ricepuppet and it looks like a pretty faithful Domo-kun themed console.

The console is pretty cool all by itself, but it even has it’s own matching controller, which we assume is functional. Hopefully the user won’t mess up the paint job while playing a shooter. It looks hungry and I bet it’s eyes seem to watch you while you are playing.

New PS3 accessories add a Joystick, use of Xbox 360 controllers

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on December 21st, 2008

New PS3 accessories add a Joystick, use of Xbox 360 controllersThere aren’t many arcade-style joysticks available for the PS3, probably because there aren’t many fighting games on the console. That are worth playing anyway. Despite this, the XCM Dominator is headed our way. No price or availability just yet.

Another addition is this strange XCM Cross Battle Adapter hub. It lets PS3 owners synch up their wired Xbox 360 controllers and play games using them. It will cost you $40. This might be a little more useful since it’s a better controller, but won’t you be plagued by mapping issues? Hell if I know.

Guy beats Guitar Hero 3 using drums

See more funny videos and funny pictures at CollegeHumor.
This guy made this video to prove that he is better then you at Guitar Hero 3 using drumsticks. He has an advantage that you don’t. A custom midi controller designed to play as if you were drumming. He also obviously kicks ass playing the drums.

He’s obviously crazy. I’m pretty sure he’s animal from the Muppets, all shaved down and incognito. Amazing yes. Also amazingly nerdy. What else can you say?

Trackball mod puts some retro on your Wiimote

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on November 12th, 2008

Trackball mod puts some retro on your WiimoteThe modders over at Acid Mods can’t help but defile all of their Wiimotes. Despite the fact that that sounds just plain wrong, the results are pretty cool. The rapid fire switch was cool and brought back memories of the Turbo Advance.

Now they’ve modded a trackball into a Wiimote, which also functions as D-pad and A button. This is pretty useful as it puts both under your thumb at the same time and should make web browsing interesting. Soon there will be an order page and instructions for adding the trackball to other controllers, like a PSP, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360 and PS3. Now we just have to get Missile Command and Centipede on the Wii and we’ll be set.
