Wii HD with new controller in 2011?

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on September 21st, 2009

Wii HD with new controller in 2011?The Wii has some good titles, but I can’t say that it has many great titles. And playing in 480p has been disappointing. And where have the good games been lately? It makes sense to wonder if the big N has a console refresh coming soon.

Yoichi Wada, president of Square Enix seems to think that there’s a new Wii coming. He also predicts that Microsoft and Sony’s motion efforts won’t be “truly successful.”

According to Wada, the next-generation HD Wii will have the same capabilities as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and this new Wii will also add a new motion controller. Sadly we have to wait until 2011, like previous rumors have stated.

The Beatles: Rock Band special edition consoleOh Special Edition Beatles Rock Band Xbox 360, I want to hold your hand. Uh, controller. This Xbox 360 console is a beauty. I don’t care if the walrus was Paul or John, I just want this. Even though it would cost small fortune.

Proceeds from the auction will go to Doctors Without Borders. This rare Xbox 360 was custom made to honor the Fab Four and will go on sale this holiday season on eBay. Each console will be numbered and come with illustrations straight from the intro for “The Beatles: Rock Band.”

SexBox 3600 adult consoleI know some of you guys don’t get out much and so your XBox 360 has become your girlfriend. This is like that, except more official-like. Silicon Xtal has filed a patent for an adult-oriented game console called SexBox. It plays interactive Adult Only rated video game software titles, and has proprietary software and firmware for access to associated AO content and other adult entertainment.

It comes with no controllers. Instead, for about $33 you get a schoolgirl costume and some lotion. And something they simply call a “roter”. I wonder if it will be a hit.

Posted in Activision by Conner Flynn on June 19th, 2009

DJ Hero, Band Hero and Guitar Hero 5 announcedOnline retailers Gamestop and Amazon have both independently put up listings for the DJ Hero / turntable bundle and both list the same October 27th ship date with a price of $119.99 for Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. The PS2 version will cost you either the same or $20 cheaper, depending on which site you go with.

Nothing official from Activision though. We’re thinking the prices and date are accurate. But until Activision confirms it, nobody knows for sure. Looks like four more months until you can get your DJ fix.

Project Natal hitting retail shelves in 2010

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on June 18th, 2009

Microsoft announces "Project Natal" motion controller for Xbox 360Up until now, all we knew about Project Natal’s release date was that it wasn’t going to happen in 2009. Now we have word that it will be hitting store shelves in 2010. So says Steve Balmer, Company CEO.

He let word slip during his speech at The Executives Club of Chicago today that the Xbox 360 motion control interface will be coming in 2010. Now that could mean all the way in December of 2010 for all we know, but at least it’s not 2011.

Microsoft to release Project Natal-centric Xbox console next fall?

Posted in Microsoft by Conner Flynn on June 13th, 2009

Microsoft announces "Project Natal" motion controller for Xbox 360According to 1Up, Microsoft is planning to release a new Xbox console this fall that will focus on Project Natal’s motion-sensing technology. Supposedly it will include native Project Natal support and backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 software. It would be released in fall 2010.

We aren’t buying it. It’s too soon for a full console devoted to the new technology. The Xbox 360 has a lot of lifespan left on it’s own. That’s our take anyway.

Halo 3 ODST Limited Edition controllerIt’s slightly ironic that on the same day we get details about Microsoft’s Project Natal, which provides hands-free gaming, we get word of this awesome Halo 3 ODST limited edition controller. It’s the big M’s way of saying, “You don’t need controllers anymore, but we’d like to really still milk these things for all their worth.

The Halo 3: ODST-themed controller comes with the $99 collector’s version of the game. How can you resist? It’s a Halo themed controller, after all. Get ‘em while you can. Soon controllers will be a thing of the past…Not really.

Wiimote chocolate bar looks yummy

Wiimote chocolate bar looks yummyCheck out this Wiimote chocolate candybar. Now you can have your cake and eat it too. Now you can throw your Wiimote at the TV and eat it too. This Wiimote chocolate replica is the product of Digital Chocolates, a company that specializes in making chocolate bars shaped like various game controllers, like the Sony Playstation controller and this Wiimote.

Not only is it delicious, but it’s got some nice detail too. It’s made of Merckens melting candy wafers. I don’t know what those are, but I’m sure they are yummy. They supposedly taste like the white from Hershey’s cookies n’ creme chocolate bars.

Xbox 360 getting full-body motion control?

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on May 3rd, 2009

Xbox 360 getting full-body motion control? There’s a reason that Nintendo’s Wii has dominated this generation of consoles. Here’s a hint. It’s the Wii’s motion-sensing capabilities. Microsoft isn’t blind to this fact. And according to the latest rumor, they’re hard at work on a new system that will let you control games not just with a Wiimote, but with your entire body.

This add-on for the Xbox 360 includes a sensor bar that needs no controllers at all. Think about that for a second. You would be free to punch, kick, put some dude in a headlock etc. Sounds like a dream to us, and we have no idea how it would work, but who knows, maybe we will hear about it at E3 in June.

At last, a fishing pole controller for the Xbox 360

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on April 22nd, 2009

At last, a fishing pole controller for the Xbox 360I don’t know how many times I’ve been playing a fishing game on the Xbox 360, only to be disappointed that my fish got away due to a crappy fishing pole. Well, no more. Never again will I lose a fish and throw my plastic rod into the TV.

Thanks to “The Strike,” coming this fall, I’ll get “realistic lake bottom topography, life-like fish behaviors” and more. Time to get in some practice with paperclip fish and a magnet on my line. And if you don’t like fishing games, this thing looks quality enough to beat people with.

The Shoebox Fightstick: Al Bundy’s mod of choice

The Shoebox Fightstick: Al Bundy's mod of choiceThings are getting really really bad in these economically tough times. The modders seem to be hit the hardest. Need evidence? How about the Tupperware arcade stick? Need more? Check out these Shoebox Fightsticks.

They were created using Xbox 360 controllers, Happ joysticks and 14 buttons…in a pair of shoeboxes for cases. On the up side, Al Bundy has moved from women’s to men’s shoes. Sadly business is slow and this is the result. It beats spending time with the wife.
