First pics of 360 and PS3 motion controllerIn2Games, developer of motion sensing gaming technology for the PS3 and Xbox 360, has released the first picture of their 360/PS3 motion controller. The Wii Nunchuck-like Gametrak Freedom is described as, “a remarkable ultrasonic 3D motion sensing technology which delivers performance, control and flexibility far in excess of that offered by existing technologies.”

In other words, they seem to be claiming that it beats a Wii-Mote. The device can be used with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, and features “proprietary and cutting-edge patent-pending ultrasonic technology to provide a true motion capture gaming experience. Unlike other motion sensing gaming systems, Gametrak Freedom accurately tracks the true 3D position and precise movements of up to four players, anywhere within a given environment, giving total control and unrivaled game play opportunities.” We’ll see what kind of software shows up for this device. For now the only game to make use of the controller is Squeeballs.

Rock Band 2 for Xbox 360 ships Sunday

Posted in Games by Shane McGlaun on September 11th, 2008

Rock Band 2One of my favorite games to play on my PS3 is Rock Band. My family and I and several friends from the neighborhood get together almost every weekend for a faux jam session. The game is addictive and the coolest part is that unlike most video games — even the ladies enjoy Rock Band.

Harmonix, EA, and MTV Games announced today that Rock Band 2 would be shipping for the Xbox 360 on September 14 — that is next Sunday. The same week the new Rock Band 2 instrument controllers will also begin shipping. However, the controllers may not be available the day the game launches.

Xbox 360 Dark Knight edition

Xbox 360 Dark Knight edition
And Dark Knight mania continues. If we aren’t spotting a DIY Tumbler or learning how Batman spends his nights, we are coming across some other Batman inspired Doodad.

In this case we’ve got an Xbox 360 under protective plastic with the Dark knight logo branded onto it. This is apparently a “limited edition” or one of a kind Dark Knight Xbox 360 shown off by Microsoft over in Taiwan. That’s about all we know. Zip,zero, zilch, nada. One can only drool and imagine batwing controllers.

Logitech & Activision to develop premium instruments for Guitar Hero
Activision and Logitech have announced a partnership where Logitech will create “premium” instrument controllers for Guitar Hero: World Tour. The press release isn’t very clear, but we take that to mean that Logitech will be making nicer, more beautiful and more expensive versions of the stock Guitar Hero guitars for the PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and the Wii. .

The new gear will be fully compatible with World Tour. This is probably good news for fans of GH since Logitech makes quality stuff. Soon you’ll be rocking a far better ax then you rock now.

Gyroxus Full-Motion game chair

Gyroxus Full-Motion game chair
The Gyroxus Full-Motion game chair is compatible with all of the popular consoles (PC, XBox 360, Playstation 2 & Playstation 3 and Nintendo), As you can see from the name, it’s not just a motion game chair, but a full-motion game chair.

I wish I was impressed, but it looks like molded plastic and with a Maximum Weight load of 250lbs, I don’t think many of todays gamers can fit in it. As far as I can tell, you put your controller on that flight stick thing and somehow it all works after paying $479.00. If you like you can pay $79.95 for 6 months and really drag out your purchase.

Xbox 360 motion controller in action
After all of the rumors and waiting, we finally get to see the Xbox 360 motion controller in action. Motus, the company that’s supposedly developing the controller for the console has some new videos showing how the device will work with existing games.

It’s being called Darwin and is of course completely wireless and can be split in two depending on the game you’re playing, or if another player wants to join in. Check out the videos below. Maybe it’s just me, but it looks like there’s a bit of a delay in motion in the Lego Star Wars game.

Red & green limited edition Xbox 360 controllers

Red & green limited edition Xbox 360 controllers
Microsoft is dropping some limited edition green and red Xbox 360 controllers at the end of September, priced at $64 each. The red one comes with black accents and even comes with a bundled Play & Charge with red battery pack.

If red and green seem like odd color choices, I agree. Red and green says Christmas to me. I guess they would be an ideal pair for playing a Christmas Eve game of Halo with some holly adorning your controllers and a bunch of new games under the tree.

Hori Real Arcade Pro EX joystick

Hori Real Arcade Pro EX joystick
Hori just dropped the Real Arcade Pro EX arcade joystick for the Xbox 360 and it looks like it is a serious way to kick ass in fighting games as well as other old school games.

It gives you eight large action buttons and a ball-grip joystick that takes you back to the arcade. I was hypnotized when I saw this and went and got several rolls of quarters, which are now useless since I’ve come to my senses. Great for Xbox Live Arcade, despite the high price of $112.

Nintendo again dominates sales, Wii shortage ensues

Posted in News by Darrin Olson on June 13th, 2008

Nintendo dominates game console sales in May 2008 with Wii and DSAccording to the latest NPD Group report for game sales in May, this is the fourth month in a row that Nintendo has come out on top for the number 1 AND number two spot for console sales. The Nintendo Wii and the handheld Nintendo DS were the two top-selling hardware units for May, 2008.

Nintendo sold over 675,000 Wii consoles in May and almost 453,000 Nintendo DS’s, which would probably explain all the new colors and designs they have been coming out with lately for the DS. Sony’s Playstation 3 followed with a little under 209,000 units sold and Microsoft sold 186,600 Xbox 360 units during the same period.

Rock Band stage kit spottedThose into Rock Band will love this news. The Rock Band Stage Kit has been spotted and it will help you more fully forget your current reality of slinging hash by day at some burger joint while crashing in your mother’s basement at night. Instead, you’ll be on stage with your band mates with lights and smoke. The crowd will be chanting your name…Oh that was your mom intruding on your other life. She wants to know when she’s going to have grandchildren. Obviously girls will have to wait. You have a gig.

The Stage Kit is available for pre-order. Looks like it comes with a 360 controller/strobe light thing and it will cost you $100 in nerd money. Available on August 15th.

Xbox 360’s new board controller

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on May 1st, 2008

Xbox 360’s new board controllerWhile everyone’s waiting for X-Box’s new Wii controller, another wireless controller is coming our way for the Xbox 360. The only difference is that you’ll be using your feet, not your hands. Qmotions will be developing a version of their skateboard controller for Microsoft’s game console.

The company already makes controllers for various sports games and plans to release it’s “Big Air” board for the Xbox in the second half of 2008, with more Microsoft-endorsed products to follow. I’m guessing one of those products will have the name Tont Hawk in it. Call it a wild guess.

Xbox 360’s Wiimote accessory on the way

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on April 7th, 2008

Xbox 360’s Wiimote accessory on the wayLook who’s getting into the Wii action. Microsoft’s been working on a Wiimote type controller and it’s due to come out later this year. They actually began development way back in Summer ‘07. But the process has had it’s share of problems. According to MTV news and their exclusive source, this is what it looks like.

The familiar looking Wiimote has a speaker, microphone, four LED lights, A/B/X/Y face buttons, an analog stick and an underside trigger. The Nintendo Wiimote doesn’t have a Microphone and has a D-pad instead of an analog stick. Rare is the company working on it and they reportedly are trying to come up with a “unified interface and look for the controller.” The problems are between marketers and designers. The marketers basically want a replica of Nintendo’s Wiimote so game developers will want to port Wii games onto the 360. The designers want it more feature-rich and they have an interesting description “Halo, Gears and Forza in waggle form.”

Wii Rock Band launch dateAnyone who has played Rock Band with a group of friends knows what fun the game can be. When it originally launched the game was only available for Xbox 360 and the PS3. EA confirmed in January that a Wii version would turn up sooner a later.

The official launch date for the Wii version of Rock Band was announced today. The game will hit store shelves on June 22, 2008 at a MSRP of $169.99. The Wii version will be launched in the familiar special edition bundle that comes with the guitar, drums, mic, and software.

Guitar Hero custom wood guitars

Guitar Hero custom wood guitars
Everyone loves Guitar Hero and Rock Band, but let’s face it, the out of the box instruments they give you won’t make you feel like a Rock God. Here’s your chance to get a beautifully handpainted guitar worthy of a real rocker. These limited edition art guitars are individually painted with familiar logos and imagery from several popular rock bands.

Make no mistake, these aren’t just cheap paint jobs, the images are embedded under a protective coating, so you won’t scratch them off while playing Barracuda for the 1000th time. Which is probably why it will cost you $399. ArtGuitar takes a real wood Peavey AG RiffMaster controller, then adds the rock art from various artists like KISS, Lynyrd Skynrd, Ozzy Osbourne and Pantera. At the moment, the controllers are only available for the PS2, but hopefully they’ll get around to Xbox 360 and PS3 versions soon.
