Google’s new Search Sidebar could streamline searches

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on November 22nd, 2009

Google's new Search Sidebar could streamline searchesGoogle is doing just fine in the search business, so no one would blame them if they just left things as they were and kept raking in the dough. But it’s nice to see that the search giant is still paying attention to details and willing to try some new things.

Google’s vice president of search product and user experience recently stated that Google will soon begin testing of a new permanent sidebar on its results page. The new version allows you to narrow a search to specific categories, and is more attractive. Plus, the sidebar will be, conveniently and permanently displayed on the left side of the page.

Uzi USB Flash Drive

Uzi USB Flash DriveWe’ve seen a Ninja weapon in USB drive form, so why not an Uzi. Of course the drive is in the clip. Where else are you going to load and reload data from?

This bad boy comes from The Get Busy Committee, a rap group who stuck their upcoming album “Uzi Does It” on uzi-shaped flash drives. Pretty clever marketing. I’ve never heard of them and it has me talking about them. This kind of music marketing gives a new spin to the term “Number one with a bullet”.

SightMate
At first glance, you’re thinking you would never wear these right? It’s not all that dorky. Looking like Cyclops from the X-Men might just score you a hot Jean Grey. It’s not meant to be a fashion accessory anyway. The SightMate LV920 from a company called Eyetonomy is a wearable device that’s designed to correct poor eyesight for those suffering from serious visual impairments.

The system has a 2-megapixel camera with a 3x zoom situated between the eyes, which provides images on twin 640×480 displays that can be tilted up to 15 degrees for comfort. The headgear comes with a remote to control magnification and other features and it only weighs 8 ounces. It can also help those who are color blind.

It has a wide variety of new modes, like Cool Drawing Tools, Trace A Pic, Super Sketch and Connecting the Dots. The controller has the two classic Etch-a-Sketch knobs to keep the nostalgic feel of the original. What about shaking it and clearing what you’ve drawn? That’s the most classic part, after all. Yes, it has that feature too. Just shake the controller and the screen will clear.
