Garmin offers up new nuvi 200 series GPS units

garmin-2x5.jpgGarmin grew its family of nuvi GPS navigators by four today as it introduced the 2×5 models. These models - the nuvi 255, 255w, 205 and 205W - are considered entry level models by Garmin and part of its nuvi 200 series.

Garmin’s new 2×5 nuvis offer up, according to Garmin, “improved mapping and routing features, faster satellite acquisition, navigation by photos, FM traffic updates or dynamic content from MSN Direct.” They make use of 4.3-inch or 3.5-inch touchscreen displays with a new shaded elevation map display and include support for download of one’s choice of millions of geo-located photos from Google for use as a more visual navigation guide.

Sony updates mylo handheld Internet device

Sony seems to have found enough success with its mylo Internet device to have unleashed at CES this week a new generation of the product. The updated Sony mylo goes on sale this month for around $300.

The Sony COM-2 mylo communicator, as it is being called, comes in black or white body colors and has a backlit, slide out QWERTY keyboard. Like its predecessor it lets you connect to open wireless hotspots to instant message with your buddies. You can also use it to view Web videos, take pictures and post them directly to a variety of sites, use widgets to do various online functions, play games and enjoy various media formats.

Tom Tom updates ONE portable navigation unit

Tom Tom ONE 3rd EditionTom Tom said today it has updated its popular ONE portable navigation device and is now calling it the ONE 3rd Edition. This new spin on Tom Tom’s best selling GPS unit is priced at around $250 and should be available now.

The Tom Tom ONE 3rd Edition has a lightweight design and sports a 3.5-inch color TFT LCD touchscreen. It features what is being called an enhanced user interface and includes the ability to let users mark changes on maps displayed on the GPS unit for later uploading to a community Web site for sharing with other Tom Tom users. These updated maps can be downloaded by others for use on their travels.

Remote Play on PSP with firmware upgrade

Remote Play to PS3 added to latest PSP firmware upgradeSony has now released a new version of its firmware for the Playstation Portable (ver. 3.50) that enables the Remote Play capabilities through a wireless internet connection from your PS3 sitting in the next room, the next town or the next country.

The Playstation 3 firmware was updated recently as well in order to support this feature and the PSP upgrade closes the loop to allow you to control your PS3 using your PSP. The Remote Play feature to me sounds a little better than it is. Remote Play …
