Sony’s Walkman NWZ-X1000 is a real looker. It features an OLED touchscreen, Wi-Fi and built-in noise cancellation and once again make the brand the world’s music player of choice, assuming the price is right. Like the iPod Touch, it comes in 16GB and 32GB and can be used to surf the web. The OLED screen’s a half inch smaller, so the colors should be brighter with better contrast.

It also comes with digital noise canceling, which is interesting. The feature, allows your 13.5mm EX headphone to block out ambient noise. It’s got all the right specs, but the price may be it’s downfall. If typical Sony pricing applies, this won’t compete with the iPod Touch.

You know how rumors are. They circulate like a virus and they are twice as hard to kill. This one has been around for a bit. Rumors have been flying regarding the 32GB iPhone. AT&T is playing it’s part, by adding some fuel to the fire, by offering 8GB refurbished iPhones for $99. Then there is Macblogz, who received an anonymous tip which points to the release of the 32 GB iPhone.

Theoretically, to sell a less-expensive iPhone, priced at about $99, Apple would need to introduce a new model with less storage. The current models would get bumped in specs, and a cheaper iPhone would be introduced and outfitted with less storage than it’s bigger brothers. The current 8GB iPhone would be left out in this line up, and will probably be discontinued.

Sony has been busy as usual. Apparently they’ve been working on a next-generation touch Walkman. Word is that it will feature 16 and 32GB of storage and be the new flagship music player at Sony. This will be the most advanced music, video and photo Walkman music player ever released by Sony to date.

The idea is that it will go head-to-head with Apple’s iPod touch, as it features WIFI and is compatible with most popular music and video formats. It will also sport a web browser and the Walkman is also said to be able to download music from the Amazon store, and you can probably expect some sort of Sony online store too. And just in case you still listen to terrestrial radio, the touchscreen walkman also has FM radio.

SanDisk is releasing the latest upgrade the Sansa Clip MP3 player this week, doubling its capacity to 8GB. Aside from the storage change the features are staying pretty much the same, but this is an MP3 player you would definitely want to take a look at.

The Sansa Clip is small, weighing just 0.9 ounces and has a clip to hook onto clothing or whatever similar to the tiny iPod Shuffle. Even though it’s slightly larger (by less than a half an ounce), it really does has some advantages over the shuffle for not much more money. For starts the Clip of course now has an 8GB capacity and is retailing for just under $100 compared to $70 for the 2GB shuffle which is 4 times the storage for $30 more.

Kenwood is introducing its new and very compact audio system with an amplifier, called the Prodino. It’s compatible with SD or SDHC, miniSD, microSD or microSDHC card, up to 32GB and supports MP3 / WMA / AAC audio files with a maximum output power of 10Wx2. The Kenwood Promino should be available this November and will cost around 45,000 Yen or 360€. There’s also an external iPod docking station that’s compatible with the Promino, which is sold separately at 12,600 Yen or 100€. Pretty nice looking and compact setup.

Not every media player has recording capabilities. The iPod for instance lacks that ability. If only you could capture the latest movie or show as if it were an old time VCR that would be pretty sweet. That’s were the iRecorder comes in handy. This device will record from analog TV, cable, set top box, satellite receiver box, DVD or your Camcorder.

A normal 2 hour DVD will be turned into a 2GB MPEG4 file with no fuss. If you have an RCA jack output on your source, just plug it into the iRecorder’s AV-IN jack. It also sports an AV OUT so you can play your iPod video on a larger screen. With the USB jack, you can plug in your iPod and store your recorded video directly onto it. The iRecorder is compatible any other USB media device that can play MPEG4 files and it will cost you $190.

Sotec’s E7 media center PC series adds an iPod dock. A hidden compartment at the base houses a slot where you can plug in the mp3 player. The 21.6 inch PC also features a DVD drive, built-in card reader, 1.3MP camera, wireless keyboard and mouse, 8W Onkyo speakers, NVIDIA GeForce 9300 video card, integrated 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi module, Gigabit Ethernet, 1GB of RAM and a160GB hard drive as part of the standard option.

It’s powered by an Intel dual-core 2GHz with optional enhancements like 2GB RAM, 500GB hard drive, and a 2.53GHz processor. The E7 should be arriving with an October launch date. The standard version is priced at about $950, while the fully-loaded options will cost you $1560. It’s nice to see an iPod dock included, but it doesn’t make it stand out enough in a sea of PC’s that are all very much the same.

Some are sure to love this USB iPod memory stick, while others will hate it. Me, I’m in the middle. I mean it’s cute…But I also kind of hate it. Look at it, it’s like a squeeze toy for your computer instead of your dog. I wonder if it makes squeaky noises. Why does it have to bend? You just know it’s going to break after awhile. It comes in 1GB and 2GB sizes for about $40 and $50.

Creative has revealed some snazzy new color options for their ZEN iPod-rival. Behold the eye-catching pink and red versions. These look juicy in bubble gum colors. Other then the color, the PMP is identical to existing ZEN models. So, you’ll get the same 2.5-inch, 320 x 240, 16m color TFT display, choice of 4GB, 8GB, 16GB or 32GB flash storage and SD/SDHC expansion.

The ZEN also has an FM radio and microphone for voice recordings, is compatible with multiple audio and video formats (MP3, WMA, AAC (. M4A), WAV (ADPCM), Audible 2,3,4, MJPEG, WMV9, MPED4-SP, DivX 4 / 5 and XviD) and has a photo viewer (JPEG, BMP, GIF, PNG & TIFF). It can also handle TIVO-to-go files, from PVR. File transfer is with a USB 2.0 connection. Battery life is about 25hrs audio playback or about 5hrs video. Nothing on price or availability yet, but the red ZEN has been seen on Buy.com, the pink is apparently a Walmart exclusive.

Hold the phone. If you just saw our post about Apple dropping the price of the 1GB shuffle to $49 and were contemplating picking one up, you may want to consider forking out another $20 and getting double the storage. This morning Apple launched a brand new 2GB iPod shuffle for $69 which is still less than yesterday’s $79 price for the 1GB shuffle and can house closer to 500 songs on a tiny player that clips almost anywhere. Apple says the new 2GB shuffle will be available yet later this month, coming in all the same colors as the 1GB, including the RED version. (The lower priced 1GB is available now.)

Wannabe CE company Coby doesn’t get too much love from us because they rarely put out interesting products. One which is mainly catching our eye though at the moment is the apparently newly released MP-835, a portable media player which is trying to gun for the Apple iPod touch.

The Coby MP-835 offers up a three-inch TFT LCD color display for you to control its functions with. Memory options are available in a rather measly 2GB or 4GB configuration, though this can be supplemented by an integrated microSD memory card slot. It offers support for most of your typical media formats, including MP3, WMA, AVI, WMV and JPG.

Today Apple announced the release of a new 16GB iPhone giving double the storage capacity in the device. The Apple store was down for a while this morning, just in the U.S., which especially on a Tuesday indicates the company had something new coming. When the site came back up the Apple store now shows two models, one with the original 8GB capacity for $399 and a new 16GB iPhone model for $499. All the specs aside from the increased storage capacity appear to be the same, and no, there was no 3G added into the 16GB model.

In addition to the iPhone getting some more storage, the iPod touch also saw an increase in its capacity to store music, pictures and video with Apple also announcing a 32GB version today as well. The 32GB iPod touch was added to the Apple store this morning retailing for $499, along with the existing 16GB model priced at $399 and the 8GB model going for $299.

Speakers for iPod Shuffles are harder to find, compared to speakers for iPods, Nano’s and even iPhones. Expect is here to help, with an update on the Cuby iPod Shuffle Dock. They have released some cool looking iPod shuffle speakers for the 2GB iPod Shuffle. They come in either pink or silver. Enjoy your tunes and charge all at once. It is powered via USB or batteries for a more mobile experience.

It’s made to fit the 2nd generation iPod Shuffle and is designed to be nice and compact. It’s kinda cute too. You just snap the Shuffle into the speaker dock and you’re all set. It will only cost you $27.

I got my Eco Media Player about 2 weeks ago and I’ve been checking out it’s various functions. The device has several features like a video player, music player, fm radio, LED torch, photo viewer, hi-fi recorder, memo recorder, data storage device and a mobile phone charger. You charge the device via USB, but if you don’t have a computer nearby it can be hand cranked to recharge the juice via a fold-out handle on the rear.

They claim that 40 minutes of audio play requires only one minute of self powering. Actually when I put that to the test I got a whole lot more. Closer to 2 hours. I don’t know if that is typical or not, but I let the battery deplete to nothing before I wound it. So that was a plus. I loaded a few videos and the conversion software is pretty effortless. The quality of the video is surprisingly crisp and clean for the small 1.8″ color screen. No complaints there.

Environmental groups have been all over the iPod due to it’s eco-unfriendliness to the environment. The Eco Media player may not be an iPod killer, but it should make the environmentalists a bit happier. The device is a video player, music player, fm radio, LED torch, photo viewer, hi-fi recorder, memo recorder, data storage device and a mobile phone charger. So how is this eco-friendly with all of these functions? Simple. It has no need for replacement batteries.
