The memory card is called the 8GB Memory Stick with Transfer Jet. The memory card reminds me a lot of the Eye-Fi SD cards that have been around for a while. The main difference is the Sony Transfer Jet tech doesn’t upload to photo and video sharing sites automatically.

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on January 19th, 2010

The VESA group has released the latest DisplayPort version 1.2 which delivers 21.6Gbps of data rate, making it ideal for handling 3D, color depths higher than 24-bit and faster frame rates. It can also handle multi-streaming. A single cable is capable of outputing two 2560×1600 displays at full frame rate, four 1920×1200 screens, or a single screen with a resolution of 3,840 x 2,400 pixels.

The data channel that was introduced with DisplayPort now hits 720Mbps with DisplayPort 1.2, enabling it to run at full speed via the display cable and gives it Dolby or DTS audio as well as headroom for webcams, 100Mbps Ethernet and other technology that would normally require a separate cable.

LG BD590, the First Blu-ray Player with an Integrated Hard Drive

Posted in Blu-ray by Conner Flynn on January 6th, 2010

LG’s new Blu-ray player won’t rip and store your movies, but the BD590 is still pretty decent. The BD590 will store your music, photos, downloaded movies, rip CDs etc, via USB or Ethernet port, though apparently not through its 802.11n Wi-Fi connection for some reason.

Unfortunately, no DVD and Blu-ray archiving. Which isn’t surprising for legal reasons. Anyway 250GB isn’t ideal for ripping Blu-Ray movies.
