If you think that the current Blu-ray disc is the best there is, think again. Pioneer has unveiled its 16-layer optical disc that can store a huge 400GB worth of data. The Pioneer disk is based on Blu-ray Disc (BD) with an added breakthrough in material of reflective layers.

The specs of the pick-up head of the disc are the same as those of blank BD discs. That means that the Pioneer discs can be read on BD players that are now on the market. Pioneer will release its read-only (ROM) 400GB discs from 2008 to 2010, while rewritable 400GB discs will make their appearance between 2010 to 2012 and the 1TB capacity disc should show up in 2013.

Energy Sistem released the 4040 Touch portable media player. It comes with some high-end features like a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen, 16GB of storage, a microSD card slot, built-in microphone, FM tuner, and supports most audio and video file formats.

The Energy Sistem 4040 Touch is priced at €120. The company has also released the 5020 and 5021, which have no touchscreen and take the storage down to 4GB. These lower-end PMPs are priced at about €85.

Just days after the announcement of this Hello Kitty laptop, Epson Japan has rolled out their own Hello kitty netbook. You’ll only be able to get them in Japan, where they will be exclusively sold online starting December 10.

This HK notebook is based on Epson’s Endeavor NJ2150. Buyers can choose between a combo model at $1,200 and a “super-multi version” at $1,500. Both versions are available in two different designs. Intel and Micron’s joint venture in NAND flash technology, IM Flash Technologies, has announced mass production of 34nm, 32 gigabit multi-level cell NAND Flash device. This move puts the company in the lead of Flash technology ahead of the likes of Samsung and Toshiba with the only monolithic 32 Gb NAND chip that fits into a standard 48-lead thin small-outline package (TSOP).

The companies stated in the announcement that the development of the technology process is going along well and is actually ahead of schedule with the ability to provide companies to create greater capacities of NAND Flash memory for devices like cameras, phones, media players and computers at a lower production cost than what is currently available.

Art Lebedev Studios has introduced it’s Luxofor traffic light prototype, with square lenses that are lit up by superbright diodes to make it them more visible to drivers and pedestrians. As usual, a million of you have slapped your head and asked “Why didn’t I think of that?”

Wireless iPod docks are not new, but the trend kind of died out leaving us with many tethered versions. Marantz has one of their own to offer with the IS301, a Lucullan wireless iPod dock that transmits both audio and video and includes a receiver with ports for your home theater. Almost every dock-connecting iPod will work and it also features Bluetooth 2.1 for BT-enabled devices. It should hit Japan in January for about $277. Hopefully the US soon after.
