Lumeta’s “peel & stick” solar panels

Lumeta’s “peel & stick” solar panels
You want some of that sweet solar juice, but you don’t want to tear up your roof just to get solar panels installed. Lumeta’s PowerPly could be the answer. The panels use traditional roofing adhesives, that most roofers will be familiar with, and the process means that there is no need to drill holes and bolts as with most other systems required to mount solar panels. It’s also faster. They can do an entire roof in 35 minutes!

It’s targeted at commercial projects for the moment, but hopefully residential houses will soon be getting the opportunity. Video below.

Beamz Infomercial: Stupidest promo ever

Beamz Infomercial: Stupidest promo ever
Last week we told you about the Beamz Laser Music System, but we had no idea how um…retarded this thing is. I’m still not sure if I watched a comedy sketch or not and I’m not entirely clear on what era I’m living in.

Unless you are a middle-aged metrosexual who loves lounge music, you really aren’t going to want this thing for $600. It makes you look like a cat pawing a ball of yarn. Your money is better spent on video games. The big bald guy seems so desperate to fill the void in his soul with his playing. Probably because he looks like fat bald Vader from Return of the Jedi. The video is below.

Modified monster Segway sports 6 wheels

Custom Segway 6-wheelerCheck out this guy with a little too much time and money on his hands with a customized Segway. The personal transport device is outfitted with what looks like 6 small car tires, three on each side, making it the widest and possibly the most impractical Segway we’ve seen yet. The tires stretch it out two feet on either side and sound like they add as much noise as they do traction. Check out the video after the jump.

Tenga masturbation machine is easy to clean

Tenga masturbation machine is easy to clean
At first glance you might just think this is a new concept phone. It’s actually a machine designed so that you can get your wank on, and it opens up so you can clean it easily. Ain’t that a pretty picture. It’s made of silicon, and it’s got vacuum and pump buttons on it for you to adjust the sidewalls, so you can pretend you are with a really hot girl.

Apparently it’s good for fifty uh…uses. It will cost you $99, but hey, they also throw in three containers of lube. This gadget will help you do what you already do anyway, just high tech. I can sense that some of you are excited. I can almost hear you thinking, “This is like using someone else’s hand entirely”. That’s right. No need to make your hand fall asleep before the deed any longer my friends. And for others out there…This beats the hell out of using a cardboard TP tube.

Pakistan lifts ban on YouTube after offensive video is removedAfter removing video clips that were deemed as offensive to officials in Pakistan, the country decided to lift a country-wide ban on the YouTube website that it had imposed last week. The popular video sharing site had videos of cartoons originally published earlier in a Danish newspaper depicting the prophet Mohammad in which Pakistan lawmakers described as “blasphemous”.

Pakiston blocks entire YouTube site for a few cartoons

Pakistan blocks access to YouTube over offensive contentThe government of Pakistan has today ordered all local internet providers to block access to Google’s YouTube video sharing site “until further notice” due to offensive content. According to officials, the YouTube website contains cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammad which angered a large number of Muslims.

The same cartoons were published earlier in a Danish newspaper which led to protests, rioting and eventually more than 50 deaths in countries including Pakistan. Internet surfers in Pakistan trying to access the YouTube site were met with a simple message saying the site was unavailable, with the local ISP’s unable to restore access despite upset users.

Pyramid power: awesome electric car

Posted in Automotive by Conner Flynn on February 19th, 2008

Pyramid power
Looking eerily like something out of old low budget Sci-Fi movies, this pyramid electric car weighs 8,000-pounds and is powered by 80-batteries, with four engines. It can supposedly reach speeds of up to 45mph. I love how the canopy pops open like a Colonial Viper from Battlestar Galactica. It was built by a Father and his two sons. Check out a video after the jump.

The “Dream Car” is solar powered, on four wheels. The vehicle can run for 80 miles on a single charge, taking about four hours to charge the battery. It’s got some extras too. An in-car heating system for one, electric brakes, gel-filled tires and cool neon lights. This was obviously a labor of love as it cost the Zanises $60,000 in supplies, and a ton of hours to build. They’re now looking for financial backers, because they need $40,000 to build a Mark 2 prototype. They would like to get the range up to 500 miles.

12 Star Trek gadgets that became reality
Like many Sci-Fi novels shows and movies, Star Trek showed us futuristic gadgets that at the time were complete Science fiction, but soon came to be a reality. Here’s a list of such technology, in no particular order.

These might be new to you if you have always been far to enamored with the women of Star Trek to notice the tech and gadgets. I don’t blame you, from Yeoman Rand to Tasha Yar, to Beverly Crusher and beyond, there’s some hot babes gallivanting around in the final frontier. Before we get so easily sidetracked, back to the theme. Star Trek gadgets and tech. Some you can own, some are in the works and some are just strange.

The P-Per Cellphone concept is sexy

p-per Cell phone conceptP-Per was awarded for the Red Dot Concept Design. It’s designed by Chocolate Design Agency and is a simple mobile phone concept with features that were supposed to be incompatible: simple, advanced, green and unique.

Modeled after the E-Paper slap bracelet, it’s made of only 4 layers of sustainable materials, the “1 function, 1 part, 1 material” rule makes it easy to disassemble the materials for recycling. Too good to be true? Maybe not. This might be the best phone ever. It has a transparent display for camera mode and a browser that spans the entire surface of the display. Check out a video here and be thoroughly impressed.

The Lars & Ivan Hybrid iPod dock

The Lars & Ivan Hybrid iPod Dock

Whoever Lars and Ivan are, one thing is clear. Well, two things. They know design and they sound like a swedish/Russian adventure movie duo. This PA-40Ti Hybrid iPod Dock is a true work of art, resembling something like a techno hammerhead shark or manta ray from some far off future. It looks as if it may even eat the iPod.(In a cool way) They even left the tubes exposed so you can see them.

They’ve skipped the built-in speakers entirely and instead focus on giving you 40 watts of stereo amplification that can power your speakers.

Sick Brick: The Dodge Tomahawk I

Posted in Automotive,Personal Transport by Conner Flynn on November 7th, 2007

The Dodge Tomahawk I

The Dodge Tomahawk I bike literally looks like some sort of Sci-Fi rocket on wheels. It’s powered by a Dodge Viper V10 engine which produces 500bhp and 525 lb-ft torque. It also claims to be the world’s fasted motorcycle and can accelerate from 0-60mph in just 2.5-seconds, achieving 300mph top speed.

At that speed, colliding with bugs will likely put a hole in your face. The tires apparently had to be custom made by Dunlop. There are two Dunlop P120/60R-20 tires in the front and two P150/50R-20 in back. You can see a video of it after the jump.

Shinoda Plasma Corp debuts 1mm plasma screen

Posted in Concepts,Plasma by Matt on October 4th, 2007

Shinoda Plasma Corp 1mm thick plasma screenShinoda Plasma Corp recently unveiled a prototype plasma screen at CEATEC in Japan that threatens to make existing plasma screen technologies obsolete within 5 to 10 years. Tsutae Shinoda formerly of Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. and inventor of the PDP technology, and with his venture capital company Shinoda Plasma Corp, developed a new type of plasma screen at a near ethereal thickness of 1mm.

A 43 inch prototype screen was taken directly from the small laboratories at Shinoda Plasma Corp to the demonstration. Shinoda explained the new technology as a series of glass plasma tubes that contain RGB fluorescent materials, and demonstrated the flexibility of the new screen. Due to the screen’s flexibility, Shinoda anticipates using the display in places it has previously been difficult to house one suggesting ceiling mounted or even entire tunnel wall displays as examples.

YouTube launches versions of its site in local languages and countriesToday Google announced that its recently acquired video sharing site YouTube will begin serving localized versions of the YouTube home page and search functionality for nine additional countries aside from the U.S.

Prior to this update, videos have been shared from users around the world but the entire interface was available only in English. YouTube on Apple TV

Posted in Apple TV,News,YouTube by Chetz on June 1st, 2007

YouTube videos showing on Apple TVThe immense popularity of YouTube and the rapidly eroding audience of network television could only mean that one day someone out there would think of bringing it into our homes and not through our computers. I am of course referring to Apple’s announcement to bring YouTube direct through its Apple TV streaming service, the next greatest thing from the mind of Steve Jobs (barring the release of the iPhone of course.)

Ironically enough Apple will debut the YouTube service in mid-June, right about when the iPhone hits the masses. Apple …

Microsoft Surface Unveiled

Posted in Microsoft,News,Surface Computing by Darrin Olson on May 29th, 2007

Microsoft Surface unveiled by Microsoft as the beginning of Surface ComputingToday Microsoft has unveiled what it hopes to be a new multi-billion dollar product category called “Surface Computing”. Using a relatively large, 30 inch flat table-top like surface in a manner similar to that of the movie ‘Minority Report’ users interact with the surface using touch, completely throwing out traditional user interfaces.

Surface computing is designed to be completely intuitive requiring no instructions or training to learn how to interact with the surface. Individuals using the Microsoft Surface simply use their fingers to select items, move them around …
