Super Talent GP 2GB 2-in-1 USB2.0 Flash Drive
Ever have trouble trying to figure out what to buy someone for Christmas? Maybe you don’t know the person you’re shopping for very well, or maybe they seem to already have everything. Maybe you’re just stuck in a gift-giving rut, and have been buying Dad the same golf-themed trinkets every year since you were eight.

For those who are difficult to shop for, the Holiday Season is a whirlwind of fancy ink pens, back massagers, gift cards, and gag gifts. Why not break that routine (slightly) and give them not just a pen, but a USB flash drive as well?

i.Sound Back Up Battery fits iPhone 3G and iPod

Posted in Mobile Accessories by Shane McGlaun on July 9th, 2008

i.Sound Backup Battery for iPod/iPhoneI have a first generation iPhone and like it a lot. One of the worst things about it though is that if you watch many videos on it the battery drains very quickly, iPod owners have this same problem. This fact has led to the proliferation of back up batteries for the iPhone and the iPod. Some batteries are only for the iPhone like the iPhoneck we talked about before.

If you want something a bit more universal that will work for your iPhone, the iPhone 3G coming this week and your 30-pin connector iPod, i.Sound has the battery for you. Called simply the i.Sound Back Up Battery the little device is a 2-in-1 charger that can charge your phone and the internal battery at the same time.

IOGEAR launches pair of new memory card readers

Posted in Iogear by Shane McGlaun on July 7th, 2008

IOGEAR GFR281 Memory Card ReaderNot too long ago my memory card reader died on me. Several people I know asked me why exactly I bothered with a memory card reader when I can just connect my DSLR/phone/MP3 player directly to my computer. The answer is that with a memory card reader I don’t have to remember to turn the camera or device back off.

Every time I hook my Nikon D80 up to my computer I tend to forget it’s on and the next time I need it my battery is dead. IOGEAR announced a couple of new card readers today that are exactly what I need to replace my dead one. The GFR209 is a 12-in-1 Pocket Card reader/Writer that retails for $11.95. The GFR 209 can read and write to SD, miniSD, MMC, Memory Stick, and MS Duo cards. It’s also tiny and very portable at only 2.5-inches long and under 1-inch deep.

Classic Star Trek phaser stuns us

Classic Star Trek phaser
Who doesn’t love the Star Trek phaser in any of it’s forms? This one may not be the version that shoots real dangerous light, but if you take this baby with you to a convention and point it at another trekkie, you’ve got some great geek on geek action happening.

Of course, this phaser uses light and sounds to create a real weapon like feel. It’s a full scale reproduction model of the original Star Trek prop, with the original 2-in-1 design with detachable mini hand phaser. It shouldn’t be any tribble at all to pick one up for $27.99. Just remember to always keep it on the stun setting. Safety first.

62-in-1 card reader mounts in 3.5″ internal bay

Posted in Card Readers, FireWire, USB by Darrin Olson on January 14th, 2008

62 in 1 card reader and hub for SATA, USB and FirewireTake a look at this card reader from USBFever that says it will handel up to 62 different types of memory cards and connections. I’m not sure what those 62 types are and the product page doesn’t even list them but you can feel pretty confident that it will take just about whatever you got. We do see support for CF, SD/MMC, MemoryStick and xD at the least.

Aside from being just a card reader, the gadget also works as a hub for a single connection for each of USB, Fireware, SATA, e-SATA, headphones and a microphone. All of this is conveniently built into a box that fits in your internal 3.5″ drive bay on your computer so you don’t have to have yet another device taking up space on your desk and another USB port.

Konami 12-in-1 arcade game

This could really be a Christmas miracle for anyone lucky enough to find this under beside their tree on Christmas morning. This would be a great machine to start that arcade you’ve been dreaming of in that spare room, because you are getting 12 games in one. You get games like: Frogger, Green Beret, Blades of Steel, Contra, Gyruss, Castlevania, Hyper Sports, Time Pilot ‘84, Shao-Lins Road, Jungler, Scramble and Super Basketball.

It is available from Linens and Things for $399.99. No, this isn’t a Christmas joke. You heard right, Linens and Things. Seems odd I know, but when it comes to classic gaming, I don’t ask. I just buy. Anyway, I’m sure your wife needs linens by now. Oh honey look at this…

Sanwa NT-MA2 2-in-1 mouse keypad

Posted in Accessories, Mouse, Peripherals by Matt on October 2nd, 2007

Sanwa NT-MA2 numpad mouseA mouse and numpad combo seems like a great idea for accounting work but from looking at the Sanwa NT-MA2 one question comes to mind: How careful would the user have to be to use the device as a mouse without hitting the keys? If you look at the mouse there is a “num” button and I’m making a leap here, but if that button doesn’t lock the pad from accidental triggering of the keys then this device gets an “F”.

So far I’ve not been able to confirm that there is a lock but I have to assume the designers would think to include one, so if they did this could be a very handy 2-in-1 device for people who deal with numbers a lot.The mouse is a simple style USB mouse with just the two buttons and scroll wheel. The 53mm x 108mm x 33mm mouse comes in silver or black and is priced at 40 Eur.

Wii Zapper-Like “Light Gun” From Brando

Posted in Controllers, Wii by Darrin Olson on September 11th, 2007

Wii 2 in 1 Light Gun from Brando uses both controllers in a tommy gun configurationIt looks like Brando might have beat Nintendo out of the gate with their own Wii controller “tommy gun” configuration. This Wii 2 in 1 Light Gun from Brando looks a lot like the Zapper that’s expected to be released by Nintendo in November, which will ship along with a Crossbow training game.

This version from Brando is available now and is listed at $18, $2 under the expected price of the Zapper but with no game. But, unfortunately we’re still going to have to wait a little longer for the Wii games to come out that take advantage of this plastic mold.
