Fido to offer 4GB iPhone 3G

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on June 1st, 2009

Fido to offer 4GB iPhone 3GNow we have a leaked image that suggests Fido will be offering a 4GB iPhone 3G in the near future that will retail for $99, with quad-band EDGE and tri-band HSDPA connectivity, a 2-megapixel camera and iChat video calling, which means a front facing camera.

You might remember all of that talk of a $99 iPhone at Walmart from a while ago. It looks like the timing was off but it may actually happen. This also jibes with today’s earlier rumor here.

New iPhones to go from 4GB to 32GB?

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on June 1st, 2009

iphone3g-sbAs we approach WWDC ’09, more leaks are leaking. According to Engadget, a “trusted source” says that you will soon have a choice of 4, 8, 16, and 32GB iPhones. The source claims that the iPhones have been approved by the PCS Type Review Certification Board, which certifies models for use with some carriers.

It lends some credence to the rumor that Apple will be releasing two new models. Will this pave the way for a sub-$100 model? As usual, we will know very soon whether or not this rumor is true. It’s looking likely.

Samsung Delve buyers get Missions Impossible trilogy on microSD card

Posted in Samsung by Shane McGlaun on February 24th, 2009

Samsung DelveThe iPhone has spawned a wealth of me too handsets that look very similar to its slick design and offer a very similar feature set. To this point none of the me too devices have managed to come close to matching the success of the iPhone. That hasn’t kept the competitors from trying to bring their own iPhone clone to market though.

One of the more recent iPhone clones to debut is the Samsung Delve. It looks very much like the iPhone and that is likely where the similarities end. To promote the Delve, Samsung Mobile and Paramount Digital Entertainment have teamed up to offer a special movie deal to buyers.

Kingston unveils 16GB microSDHC card

Posted in Kingston by Shane McGlaun on February 16th, 2009

Kingston 16GB microSDHC CardOne of the things I want most on my iPhone is expandable memory. Most smartphones include a microSD card slot that allows you to add more storage for music, images, and other files as you need to. Phones that are compatible with microSDHC cards can offer even more storage capacity with a single small card.

Kingston has announced a new microSDHC card that offers 16GB of storage capacity. According to Kingston, that is enough storage for more than 3,000 songs, over 9,000 images at 5-megapixel resolution and more than 16 hours of video.

The iPhone ELITE

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on December 29th, 2008

The iPhone ELITEThis one isn’t rumored to surface at all and we don’t expect to see it at MacWorld 2009. It should arrive eventually though, just because it is well thought out and just makes sense. This concept was born because Mat Brady wants to get rid of his Nokia N95 but won’t buy an iPhone due to the lack of a physical keyboard, no good camera, and not enough storage.

Mat’s concept is called the iPhone Elite. It’s an iPhone with 60GB of storage, true 16:9 aspect ratio, slide-out keyboard, one megapixel front camera for iChat, and another high quality camera, with better lenses, optical zoom, and video capability.

iPhone 3G hit Wal-Mart today

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on December 28th, 2008

iPhone 3G hit Wal-Mart todayToday the iPhone arrived at that place where workers get trampled by angry Black Friday crowds. There’s bad news and there’s more bad news. The bad news is that you can probably still get trampled by an angry mob in search of rolled back prices. The other bad news is that rumors of a $99 Wal-Mart iPhone were incorrect.

Wal-Mart will sell the iPhone for only $2 less than the regular price with a two-year contract: $197 for the 8 GB model, or $297 for the 16GB model. The ad should read “Save just a little money. Live just a tad better.”

All black iPhone 3G debuts

All black iPhone 3G debutsDiamond jewellers De Vere’s of London have unveiled the all black Apple iPhone 3G. The ‘Midnight’ iPhone 3G features a deep black bezel surrounding the front screen to match the rear case. The Midnight iPhone is exclusive to De Vere’s for £799 (USD$1199) or as a bezel fitted to an existing iPhone for £299 (USD$449).

The black Midnight iPhone was originally created by De Vere’s to show off the effect of diamonds set into its luxury De Vere Diamond iPhones. Then they realized how good the all black iPhone looked without the diamonds.

iPhone hitting Walmart by the end of December

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on December 8th, 2008

iPhone hitting Walmart by the end of DecemberRumors that Walmart would begin selling the iPhone soon have been around for a few days and we now have an answer thanks to Bloomberg. Yes, you’ll be able to get an iPhone at Walmart, and probably by Christmas. Store representatives at several locations confirmed that employees are being trained to sell the handset, which will hit shelves by the end of the month. This makes Walmart the second retail chain to sell the iPhone, and also the largest.

Any truth to the whole $99 4GB model deal? That isn’t confirmed, and is looking unlikely. The $99 iPhone will probably happen eventually according to some, but others claim that a Bentonville, Arkansas location will sell the 4GB model as well as the 8GB and 16GB versions, which have been confirmed at their normal $199 and $299 prices.
