Sony Online Entertainment is offering the DC Universe Online community a free Batman inspired mask as part of its “make good” plan after an attack on the system that has led to two weeks without service to the PlayStation Network. All players who were affected will receive both the Batman mask and a 30 day subscription credit plus one day for each day the service is unavailable. Not a bad way to say they are sorry.

In addition, SOE is asking for patience as it returns service. “Please bear with us as the complexities of the subscription server dictate how and when this will be available along with pertinent details,” But hey, free batman stuff.

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on May 2nd, 2011

Verizon’s long-delayed and long awaited version of the HTC Trophy might just finally show up this week. We hope. A new rumor has the Windows Phone 7 device shipping on May 5, though the rumor didn’t specify a price or explain why it was delayed from the April 15 date on the Verizon roadmap.

Verizon’s edition might have dual-mode CDMA and GSM but we know it will ship with Microsoft’s NoDo update for copy-and-paste text and other upgrades. HTC Rider spotted

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on April 28th, 2011

A new HTC phone has now been spotted. We don’t have many details, but it is rumored to go by the name of the HTC Rider. It looks like the HTC EVO 3D, but with a chrome speaker grill and a front facing camera on the right. That’s all we have.

It’s hard to figure out more since the image is so blurry. For instance, is that red trim part of the phone or just a protective case? We don’t know. A red HTC phone sounds good though.

Low-end Android devices are ready to take over the world

Posted in Android by Conner Flynn on April 27th, 2011

We all know that Android is super popular right now, but it looks like the best is yet to come for the platform. According to Digitimes, low-end Android phones are about to take the already-popular OS to new heights. Maybe even world domination. The reason is simple. Some handset vendors are rushing to launch low-priced (under $150) Android devices.

Digitimes thinks that 20-25 million of these devices will be sold this year alone. Those are huge numbers. We are talking a tenfold increase from last year’s 2.5-3 million phones sold. The low end Android market is wide open right now.

Connect A Sketch does just what it says

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on April 27th, 2011

Etch a sketch fans know that what the world needs is a connected version of the famous toy. And now it appears that they have one. Andrew Little came up with the idea, wanting to connect with others while he toiled away vertically and horizontally, creating works of art. It is called Connect A Sketch and basically he modified a pair of Etch A Sketches to make them work together. A wireless version is of course on the way.

The end game here is that users could log on to the Connect A Sketch website with a unique user ID and then be able to interact, even work together on artwork. Users can even draw on the Etch A Sketch at the same time, leave messages etc. Maybe even give somebody elses work of art a good shake to clear it, though that would be rude. It’s a great idea and a great way to get kids to be creative.

Netgear N750 wireless router

Posted in Netgear by Conner Flynn on April 25th, 2011

Who says that all WiFi routers need to look out of place in your home? Not I and certainly not Netgear. The N750 keeps its antennae stashed inside and out of sight. Your wife will certainly appreciate that as it at least keeps a low profile.

Aside from looking pretty sleek, this dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n router is capable of speeds of up to 450Mbps over the 5GHz band and 300Mbps at 2.4Ghz, for an “aggregate combined data rate” of 750Mbps. That just means that you can connect one device in either band without the transfer rate of the other suffering. You won’t get full 750Mbps. The N750 also sports a ReadySHARE USB port for network storage, parental controls, and guest access. All for just $150.
