JVC’s DLA-SH7NL, a $15,000 projector

Posted in Projectors by Conner Flynn on February 1st, 2010

Looking to spend $15,000 on a new projector? Then check out JVC’s DLA-SH7NL projector. For that price you do get an amazing resolution of 4,096 × 2,400 and it will show off more than four times the detail found in full HD resolution. Pretty sweet, if you have the spare scratch. Which you don’t. And neither do I. Maybe there’s a payment plan.

How about a native contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and a 330W lamp capable of producing 5,000 lumens? It uses D-ILA (Digital Direct Drive Image Light Amplifier) technology, allowing it to display two or even four displays in WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) and full HD resolution simultaneously.

Posted in Keyboards by Conner Flynn on February 1st, 2010

Microsoft has a new member in its SideWinder family in the SideWinder X4. The keyboard, in fact the entire “X-series”, is designed for gamers. One of the most interesting features of the X4 is the anti-ghosting feature, which allows gamers to press up to 26 keys at once.

Each key is scanned independently by the keyboard hardware, so each key is correctly detected. Some other features include adjustable backlighting, macro keys, automatic macro repetition and more.

MSI drops CX420 and CR420 notebooks

Posted in MSI by Shane McGlaun on February 1st, 2010

Over the last few months, it has seemed that I run across more notebooks being debuted in 14-inch screen sizes than the old standby 15.4-inch size that was common not long ago. Case in point, MSI has debuted a pair of new almost twin notebooks called the CX420 and CR420.

Both of the machines sport 14-inch 1366 x 768 LED backlit LCDs. The machines also both run Windows 7 Home Premium and will use one of the new 2010 Intel Core processors. MSI doesn’t get specific on the processor though. The only difference in the two machines is graphics.

They also say that the Zune Phone will feature a 480 x 272 resolution display, HDMI video out, run on Windows 7 and make all your dreams of an anti-Jesus Phone come true.

Mitsubishi shows off gigantic OLED display

Posted in Mitsubishi by Shane McGlaun on January 29th, 2010

I would certainly like some OLED HDTV action in my living room. I would gladly give up my plasma TV that is several years old already for newer tech with a better picture. The bag thing about OLED sets right now is that they are crazy expensive and small.

Mitsubishi has pulled the wraps off a new prototype OLED display that fixes one problem with OLED displays and compounds another. The set fixes the size issue with 149-inches of OLED glory. The price of the screen would make my wallet cry I am sure.

Samsung’s first 3D Blu-ray player available for pre-order

Posted in Blu-ray by Conner Flynn on January 29th, 2010

3D TVs aren’t even available yet, neither are 3D Blu-ray discs. But if you want to buy into the whole 3D craze I guess you better start buying stuff. How long the fad will last is anybody’s guess, but hey at least you’ll be all set right?

Samsung’s BD-C6900 is the company’s first 3D Blu-ray player, and its available now for pre-order on Amazon. Samsung wants you to buy your 3D gear now, not later when you can actually use it. You can still put on the glasses and pretend. Who’s going to know?

Smart handgun won’t fire unless you’re wearing this ugly watch

Posted in Weapons by Conner Flynn on January 29th, 2010

If you see somebody wearing this ugly watch, run. They have a weapon. The idea here is to make guns safer. Or at least harder to fire. The new Armatix .22 comes with a custom watch. When the gun is within a few inches of the watch, a green LED on the back lights up, letting you know that it’s armed and ready to fire.

If you try to use it without wearing the watch, the LED turns red and it can not fire. It would be great for police weapons, so that they don’t get in civilian hands. The military as well. Your enemy will no longer be able to use your weapon against you should they somehow get it.

MiniPC Dual-Core Atom D510 ED510 Nettop

Posted in PCs by Conner Flynn on January 29th, 2010

We’ve seen the Pine Trail processor making its way into various nettops for a bit now and the MiniPC ED510 is the latest. It has 20W of power usage when idle and 31W at maximum. Not bad at all. And it runs without needing a fan, so that keeps it silent.

Some other features include a Dual-core Atom D510 (1.66GHz) Processor, 2x DIMM RAM slots (DDR2 800) (4GB max), Intel NM10 Express Chipset, GMA 3150 Graphics, 2.5” SATA HDD Bay, Gigabit LAN, 6 x USB 2.0, RJ45, PS/2 keyboard, PS/2 mouse, VGA, eSATA, audio jacks, HD Audo 5.1 Channel, and 1x Mini PCI-e slot.

Sony says no plans for a color e-reader

Posted in ebooks by Conner Flynn on January 29th, 2010

According to Sony’s Fujio Noguchi, deputy president of the Digital Reading Business Division of Sony Electronics Inc., the company has no plans to introduce a color e-reader anytime soon. Apparently their new Reader is doing very well in sales, especially in Sony’s US online store, SonyStyle.

The Reader Touch Edition is the best selling device out of all of their e-readers at $299. Sony won’t take on a color e-reader until E-Ink technologies move along enough for their liking.

Rubik’s Slide will have you twisting and sliding the night away

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on January 28th, 2010

Hot on the heels of the Rubik’s Cube 30th birthday box set, comes this new puzzler from the company. The Rubik’s Slide will likely frustrate you in all sorts of ways. The makers claim that there are more than 10,000 puzzles on this.

It’s your job to slide and twist to move a series of squares (up to nine) to match a pre-determined pattern that is displayed at the start. The further you go, the more tiles will be introduced. That sounds simple, but it never is with these puzzles. I would need to save my progress like in a video game, but somehow I doubt that’s possible.

Louis Vuitton Asus Eee PC

Posted in Netbook by Conner Flynn on January 28th, 2010

Nothing says gaudy like slapping an overpriced brand on your Asus Eee PC. That’s just what has happened here with this netbook for fashionistas who love to throw money away. This Asus Eee PC 1101HA has had its exterior covered in leather that bears the famous Louis Vuitton pattern.

It was specially commissioned by a saddler, and aside from the exterior, everything else remains the same. It’s no iPhone Supreme and at least it isn’t covered in Swarovski crystals. You just have to wonder about some peoples taste.

SoundGraph FingerVU USB sub-monitors

Posted in monitors by Conner Flynn on January 28th, 2010

SoundGraph has introduced some devices called FingerVU that function as USB sub-monitors. They come in 4.3″ and 7″ screen sizes. You won’t need a mouse and keyboard to manipulate what’s on them since the FingerVU works independently of the main monitor using touch and SoundGraph’s own FingerUI interface.

These are probably good for watching videos or RSS feeds while you work on other stuff on the main screen. Twitter addicts will want to use it for their Twitter feed.
