Dell Streak 7 launching at T-Mobile on February 2nd: $200 with contract, $450 without

Posted in Dell by Conner Flynn on January 31st, 2011

T-Mobile has confirmed the price of the Dell Streak 7 and that rumored $330 price was too high. T-Mobile will be offering the 7-inch, Android 2.2 tablet for just $200 on contract starting February 2nd.

That requires you to sign a two-year contract and send in a $50 mail-in rebate of course. You can also get the NVIDIA Tegra 2-powered, T-Mobile HSPA+ tablet for 450 bucks. Not a bad deal since the Samsung Galaxy Tab is still about $600 off contract at Verizon and Sprint. Will you be getting one?

Gigantic 17 x 17 x 17 Rubik’s Cube is crazy

Posted in Toys by Conner Flynn on January 30th, 2011

If you have trouble solving the original Rubik’s cube, you will have no hope of solving this one. Shapeway’s huge 17 x 17 x 17 Rubik’s Cube boggles my mind just looking at it. Designer Oskar van Deventer’s massive 17 x 17 x 17 Rubik’s Cube is now a reality.

Deventer has successfully used a 3D printer to bring his puzzle to life. It has over 1539 individual pieces and took over 15 hours in total to create. He will be presenting his world record shattering Rubik’s Cube next month in New York City. I wonder how long it will take the most skilled people to solve it.

Amazon Prime users see free unlimited movie streaming

Posted in Amazon by Conner Flynn on January 30th, 2011

Amazon’s plans for unlimited movie streaming similar to Netflix seems to be right on track as someone has spotted the service in action. At least one Amazon Prime subscriber has seen options in the Video On Demand section to stream movies and TV shows, even major recent releases, as part of the $79 yearly subscription. The catalog seen by this Engadget reader had 5,000 titles that show in 480p.

Amazon hasn’t confirmed these plans, and the unlimited VOD may be a trial that isn’t immediately ready to go live. Netflix’s streaming-only plan has a larger catalog but also costs $96 a year.

If you’re looking for a wallet that is secure enough for a superhero, look no further. It has a Bluetooth alarm, fingerprint identification, and an unbreakable carbon fiber exterior. Probably made by Wayne Industries too.

The Dunhill Biometric Wallet also has a money clip inside to hold your cash, with room for credit cards. Batman’s cash will now be secure, until he drops this off some bridge while fighting the Joker. This is one tough and secure wallet.

Password problem on Amazon.com

Posted in Amazon by Conner Flynn on January 29th, 2011

It has been reported that there is a security flaw on the Amazon site that allows customers to log into their account without using their exact password. For example, if your password is PASSWORD, users can enter “password”, “passwordpassword”, “password12345″ to login to the account and it will still work.

This is apparently because the site still uses an old password encrypting technique that truncates passwords after the 8th character for some accounts that have kept the same password for many years. So users were not able to protect their accounts with passwords longer than 8 characters. However, Amazon has solved the problem – users just need to update their password, and it should automatically upgrade the password encryption.

Toshiba color-changing notebook uses nano-technology

Posted in Toshiba by Conner Flynn on January 28th, 2011

Toshiba wants their notebooks to be pretty. Most of them aren’t, but the Dynabook Qosmio T750 aims to fix that. It’s the first color-changing notebook. You won’t be able to control the color changing like you change your wallpaper, but it is cool that it uses nano-technology, allowing it to change from green to blue to purple.

The metallic effect was achieved without using any metal, so it’s a bonus for the environment. Other features include a 2.66GHz Intel Core i5-480M processor, 4GB of RAM, a 750GB hard drive, and a 15.6-inch 1366 x 768 pixel resolution display.
