Acer Aspire Ethos laptops with detachable touchpads

Acer has announced two Aspire Ethos laptops for the multimedia enthusiast and they include detachable touchpads that can also act as remotes. The Aspire Ethos series laptops will be available later this month starting at £999, with two different sizes to choose from. There’s the standard 15.6in model and a 18.4in version.

The screens are Cinecrystal LED backlit units that are full HD 1920×1080 resolution on the 18.4in model and 1366×768 on the smaller 15.6in model. They come pre-loaded with Windows 7 64-bit versions of either Home Premium or Ultimate.

Sony announces NEX-C3 and Alpha A35 cameras

The NEX-C3 uses the same format APS-C image sensor as its predecessor, bringing resolution to 16.2 megapixels in a camera body smaller than the NEX-5. Sony says that it is designed to fill the gap between point-and-shoot and DSLR cameras, and is the smallest body to pack an APS-C sensor, with DSLR-level image quality.

The same 16.2 MP chip is also in the full-size Alpha A35, which replaces the A33. Both can shoot at up to 5.5 fps (the A35 adds a 7 fps mode at 8.4 megapixels), and include 3-inch LCDs, with the NEX keeping its tilt display, and the A35 adding Sony’s Translucent Mirror live-view mode, and an electronic viewfinder.

Sony VAIO L all-in-one

The VAIO L all-in-one is a 3D Tv and a Desktop PC. It features a 24-inch 3D multitouch display, a Blu-ray player, a bezel with built-in touch controls, 1080p HD playback, USB 3.0, and an HDMI port.

The system will be available on July 13th for around $1,420, and for that price you also get a wireless keyboard and mouse and one pair of active shutter 3D glasses. Sounds like a good set for your PS3.

Sony S1 hits the FCC

The new SGPT113JP/S and SGPT114JP/S tablets that just passed through the FCC are variants of the S1 tablet, the 9.4-inch tablet with Android 3.x Honeycomb and custom-made “Quick and Smooth” UI and “Swift” web browser.

Other features include 2.4GHz 802.11n WiFi and WCDMA bands II and V radios, and an Ericsson F5521gw HSPA+ capable modem that’s mentioned. The PlayStation Certified tablet will arrive later in the fall for an unknown price.

Nintendo’s next console is the Wii U

Coming in 2012, Nintendo’s next home console will be called the Wii U! A variety of new controls will be available thanks to that new controller with a 6.2-inch touchscreen in it. And you’ll no longer be tied to a TV to enjoy your gaming action. The Wii U controller can handle your gaming session when the television is needed for other purposes. That’s a great feature by itself. A built-in front-facing cam will let you video chat as well.

You won’t have to use that large 6.2-inch controller if you don’t want to, the Wii U will be compatible with all current-gen accessories and software. Your Wii collection will also play on the U version of the console as well.

Sony’s PS Vita will ship next year for $249

Sony has finally confirmed details about its NGP at E3. It is really called the PS Vita and the handheld device will sell for $250 when it arrives next year. That’s for the Wi-Fi only version. The $300 3G PlayStation Vita will arrive in partnership with AT&T sometime in this year’s holiday season.

Specs include a 5-inch OLED touchscreen, front and rear touch pads, a quad-core processor and dual analog sticks. It’s also has a camera on both the front and back sides.

Acer announces new Aspire TimelineX Series laptops, starting at $599

Acer has refreshed their Aspire TimelineX notebooks with a redesign and Sandy Bridge processors too. The 13.1-inch 3830T, 14-inch 4830T, and 15.6-inch 5830T all sport a two-tone aluminum design, USB 3.0, a choice of Core i3 and Core i5 CPUs, and Acer’s clear.fi software for sharing media among DLNA devices.

The 14- and 15.6-inch versions feature onboard optical drives and number pads, and on some models, you can choose a discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT520M or GT540M card. The screen resolution is 1366 x 768 on all of these. The 3830T, 4830T, and 5830T are available now, starting at $799, $699, and $599.

Wii 2 might be called “Nintendo”, touchscreen controller confirmed

Nintendo has already promised its next-gen console will make its debut at E3, and rumors continue to circulate about just what this “Wii 2″ can do, and what Nintendo will call it. “Wii” was odd, but what about simply “Nintendo”?

According to Game Informer, “Nintendo” is supposedly among the current frontrunners for names. Nihon Keizai Shinbun confirms the talk of a 6-inch touchscreen, along with a camera and its own internal power source. That will allow it to be used as a standalone gaming device, while the camera can also be used to create an avatar. Sounds good so far. We will know more shortly.

Sharp To Launch LED AQUOS R5 Series In Japan

Sharp is ready to launch the LED AQUOS R5 Series in the Japanese market later this month. This LED TV features a DBXL/DVD burner, a digital TV tuner, USB recording, YouTube and Ethernet.

Both the 26-inch and 32-inch models feature an HD resolution (1366×768), while the 40-inch model has a Full HD resolution (1080p). It is available in 26-inch, 32-inch and 40-inch models. The Sharp LED AQUOS R5 Series will cost you 120,000 Yen ($1,499), 140,000 Yen ($1,749) and 180,000 Yen ($2,248).

These days phones have invaded every aspect of our lives. However according to the experts at WHO, they emit radio-frequency waves which when absorbed by the human body prove harmful. The powers-that-be have come up with a standard called Specific absorption rate (SAR) and the FCC now requires cell phone makers to report the SAR level of their devices. The upper cap on acceptable levels is less than or equal to 1.6 watts per kilogram (W/kg).

Sony VAIO Z21 ultralight arrives early in Europe

Four store listings at Italian online shop F2F have leaked Sony’s plans for an upgraded VAIO Z in Europe. All of them will feature Sandy Bridge Core processors, very fast SSD storage, fingerprint readers, and built-in 3G. Sounds good and the HDMI has also been upgraded to put out 3D video, but that’s not all. The webcam uses the low-light Exmor sensor technology.

The base system will cost you $2,648 equivalent price but with a 2.3GHz Core i5, 4GB of RAM, and a 128GB SSD mated to the Z series’ signature 13.1-inch, 1600×900 display. Of course once you get up to 2.7GHz Core i7 and 256GB SSDs it gets much more expensive at $3,584.

Kingston Wi-Drive Wireless SSD

Forget wires. Kingston’s new Wi-Drive is a solid state drive designed to provide wireless storage for smartphones and tablets. It’s equipped with 802.11 Wi-fi. Kingston is promising up to 4 hours of battery life from the internal battery and the Wi-Drive will be able to stream multiple file content to four Apple iPad devices simultaneously.

Toshiba Announces WT310/C Oak Trail Windows 7 Tablet

Toshiba has announced a new tablet in Japan, for the enterprise market, the Toshiba WT310/C. The device comes with Windows 7 professional and features an Intel Atom Z670 1.5GHz Oak Trail processor. It also has an 11.6 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, 2GB of RAM and a 64GB Solid State Drive (SSD), along with two cameras.

There’s a two megapixel camera in back and a three megapixel camera in front. Other features include Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, an SDXC card slot and USB 2.0 plus HDMI.

Twitter may unveil image service on Tuesday

According to a rumor, Twitter will be launching its own image service, which will be an equivalent to Lockerz, TwitPic, Yfrog and other services that are commonly used. It could arrive as soon as tomorrow. We don’t know yet what if any differences we can expect over those other services.

This might be all about revenue. Twitter encourages promoted tweets but has little direct monetization of its own. A self-run image service could change that by launching ads with the million of images shared every day. Best of all this wouldn’t disrupt users’ feeds.

Gigabyte M2432 Notebook and Docking Station Unveiled at Computex

At Computex 2011 Gigabyte has announced a new notebook computer with a neat docking station called the Booktop M2432. The machine packs in an Intel Core i5 processor, USB 3.0 ports, THX TruStudio Pro, and more.

The screen is a 14-inch LED backlit unit with 1366 x 768 resolution. Other features include Intel HD 3000 graphics onboard, support for HD movies and more. The machine weighs 1.81 kg and is 27.6 mm thick.
