Sony NGP to arrive in Europe on November 11th?

Posted in PSP by Conner Flynn on March 11th, 2011

Sony’s Jack Tretton said that the company intended to launch their Next Generation Portable in “at least one territory” by the end of 2011, and now we might have the answer as to which one. Reports indicate that the quad-core, OLED packing handheld may arrive in Europe first on November 11th.

If this is true, it would be a fitting date, 11/11/11. The anonymous sources say that “development deadlines have been set to ensure key Western releases are finished before the end of the summer for deployment in the autumn.” anyway, it gives all of us some time to save up our money.

Kinect is the fastest selling consumer electronics device of all time

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on March 10th, 2011

No surprises here. We knew that the Kinect has been a complete success. Since it was released last year, the motion control device for the Xbox 360 has been flying off of store shelves like crazy. Now it looks like the Kinect has set a new world record too.

In the first 60 days it was on sale, it sold an average of 133,333 units per day, for a total of 8 million units in those 2 months alone. And these figures were units that left the store and went home with customers. Not the shipments that were sent to retail stores. It’s amazing when you think about it. The Kinect beat the iPhone and iPad for the equivalent periods after launch. These numbers for the Kinect will be in the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition book that will be available early next year.

Court rules in Sony’s favor against LG, PS3 is welcomed back to Europe

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on March 10th, 2011

There won’t be a widespread PlayStation 3 shortage in Europe after all. Thank the gaming gods! You can also thank the Hague’s civil court of justice, who has just ruled in Sony’s favor in its dispute with LG, and ordered that the 300,000 PS3s that are currently seized by customs be released to Sony for distribution.

Apparently LG has also been ordered to pay €130,000 in legal fees. If the company doesn’t comply, it will face a fine of €200,000 per day until it does. It’s a win for Sony all around, but you can bet LG isn’t done with them yet.

Best Buy to give iPads to sales staff?

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on March 6th, 2011

A report suggests that all Best Buy sales staff may receive iPads soon. The info comes from Forbes who received a tip from a “source with knowledge of corporate mobile device deployments,” who claims that an iPad roll-out for staff will happen for one of America’s top ten retailer’s with about 1,100 stores. So it would seem that they mean Best Buy, which has been an Apple Partner since the launch of the original iPad.

The retailer already has 27 Connected World stores, where sales staff are equipped with iPads, and other mobile devices. This could be part of a plan to expand the pilot program of Connected Word stores to all of its stores nationwide.

Sony NGP not a mini PS3 after all

Posted in PSP by Conner Flynn on March 3rd, 2011

There has been a lot of talk about Sony’s upcoming portable being able to pack a PS3 punch and for awhile Sony just let us think that the device was that powerful, but now they have laid their cards on the table. David Coombes, a platform research manager put a quick end to the rumors.

He explained that although the NGP is equipped with a high-performance quad-core CPU theoretically capable of 2GHz, the clock speeds will have to be dialed down to preserve the PSP successor’s battery life and prevent it from running too hot. Otherwise it would last maybe 5 minutes and burn you. No one wants that. Sony wants hot sales, not burnt customers.

BlackBerry PlayBook has 17-hour web browsing battery life?

Posted in Playbook by Conner Flynn on March 2nd, 2011

RIM has been keeping pretty quiet about how long their upcoming tablet’s battery life is, but now some leaked screenshots of the tablet’s “Battery Assistant” app are shedding some light on the issue. If these pictures are the real deal, then we won’t have to worry about the tablet’s battery life. It is amazing.

They show the tablet at 50% battery life and the indicator says that it can last another 8.5 hours of web surfing. If 50% is 8.5 hours, then that means that the tablet will be able to surf the web for 17 hours on a full charge.

2012 Ford Focus will call for an ambulance if you crash

Posted in Automotive by Conner Flynn on March 1st, 2011

At CeBIT, Ford CEO Allan Mulally unveiled a new feature of the new Ford Focus that will launch next year. It’s called Sync Emergency Assistance and the service will come free with every Ford that has Sync installed. Sync Emergency Assistance uses your phone to make sure that drivers and passengers aren’t left unattended or stranded when they get into a car accident.

Should you crash, the car will automatically send out a phone call for help. It will even use GPS and cell towers to triangulate your position so that emergency services will know exactly where you are. The car will even speak the language of the emergency hotline operator, so language is not a barrier at all. We can expect to see Sync Emergency Assistance in Ford cars next year, when it starts saving lives.

Facebook phasing out the Share button

Posted in Facebook by Conner Flynn on February 28th, 2011

Facebook has announced that they will be slowly phasing out the Share button. If you want to share articles in the future, you would have to Like it instead. Right now, when you Like something, it only shows up as a single line on your news feed, while if you Shared something, you’d get the full story, with the headline attached, a thumbnail and a link to the original post.

So the Like button will act like the Share button instead. It’s good for those who make the content as they will get more links, but there will be a lot more content on your page. We aren’t sure what they are thinking with this tweak, but I guess we will see it in action soon.
