He turned an NES cartridge into a working breathalyzer unit, and coded a program on the NES to calculate the readings from the controller.

The device above is called Copernitron and features a PlayStation Move controller, a turntable, and a homebrew Helmholtz coil which cancels out interference caused by our planet’s magnetic field.

IBM’s Watson computer triumphed over its human competitors on Tuesday’s special episode of Jeopardy. The computerized trivia-playing machine finished out with a total of $35,734 in winnings with the next runner up at $10,400 and 3rd place at $5,000. One more day of competition will determine an overall winner to a $1 million prize.

The man vs machine competition has drawn quite a bit of attention with two Jeopardy! champions taking on the IBM supercomputer named ‘Watson’. The first special episode which aired Monday night turned out to be the highest rated episode since early 2007 and the second most program of the night.

Adobe announced today in Barcelona at the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona that Flash 10.2 will be hitting Android smartphones and Android tablets within just a few weeks. What this brings you is more frames per second and better graphics in Flash animation on your devices, just on the heals of the 10.2 release for Windows and Mac.

Adobe says that devices with dual-core processors such as Snapdragon they are scaling 1080p resolution video and seeing it at 30 frames per second. All this combined with a lower hit to battery life when viewing the video. Pushing the new, faster and more efficient version of the Flash player out to more handsets is a big move for Adobe to bring more popularity to website using Flash technology. Users might not necessarily choose a devices based on its Flash-playing capabilities, but it is something that those producing the devices can add to their list of features to bring more popularity.

Apple’s MacBook Air is still enjoying being the slimmest notebook around, since the Dell Adamo has been axed. Soon it will have some competition though since Acer, Asus and Lenovo are all planning to launch new ultra-thin notebooks in the second quarter of 2011 and they will feature components that are more competitive than Apple’s MacBook Air.

That means that they can sell them at a lower price. Acer will release its new Timeline notebooks, Asus will has its U-series slim models and Lenovo is offering new ultra-thin models of its IdeaPad. The prices on these notebooks should be below $1,000.

Olympus has announced the SZ-10, which features a wide 18x 28-504mm zoom lens, a 14-megapixel image sensor, 3-inch LCD display, TruPic III+ image processing and support for Eye-Fi wireless cards. The SZ-10 will cost you $249.99 when it ships in March.

The VR-330 is priced at GBP159.99 ($258) in Europe. It lacks the newer image processing of the SZ-10, but for the price you get a 12.5x zoom lens and the same 14-megapixel image sensor. Both cameras offer 720p video capture, HDMI-output, and a dynamic 3D mode. There’s also a version of the VR-330 that ditches the 3D mode and sells for $199.99, called the VR-320 and it will ship in February here in the states.

You may be buying a 3DS to play 3D games glasses-free, but the 3DS has another bonus in store for you too. Nintendo has made it tougher than all of their other DS consoles. The 3DS is now easier to open than the DS Lite and it doesn’t have to worry about cracked hinges since there are now 3 layers. This also makes it easier to grip, thus preventing you from dropping the 3DS.

There’s also a new glass-fiber resin to reinforce the 3DS case. Even the insides have been rearranged so that if you drop it, damage will be minimized. Sounds like they went above and beyond with this one. Let’s hope it is as good as it sounds.

We have some more PSP2 rumors today. Nikkei believes that Sony’s new handheld will have a data-only 3G connection allowing an always-on way to play multiplayer games or access the PlayStation Store. The connection would come from NTT DoCoMo in Japan and maybe other carriers.

We don’t have any info on how pricing would work. Discounted 3G rates could be the ticket here. Users might get a free but small amount of data every month and pay extra only when they need to expand the amount of data they use. In other news, the handheld’s touchscreen is now AMOLED rather than the expected LCD. Is that realistic though? Maybe not. AMOLED’s chief supplier Samsung is still facing production shortages that would keep it from large-scale AMOLED production until later in 2011.
