Posted in Cables,HDMI,Monster by Nino Marchetti on August 28th, 2007

hdmi1000_glam.jpgMonster Cable believes you should get serious about understanding how the HDMI cables you use impact your HD viewing experience. To that end the cable company unveiled today a new line of “speed-rated” HDMI cables and accompanying education campaign.

The Monster Speed Rated HDMI Cables come in five different speed ratings: ultimate high, ultra high, advanced high, high and standard. These categories will be rated on individual cables sold at retail and will appear as logos on the cable packaging. The speed factor is especially important to note, according to Monster, with cable length and the fact the company plans to offer great performance in its cables regardless of how long they are.

I/OMagic TeraBank 1000GB1TB of external hard drive space…mmmmm….tasty. You get the general idea of this newly remodeled data storage device from I/OMagic, the TeraBank 1000GB. This massive drive is priced at around $300.

What makes the TeraBank 1000GB remodeled, said I/OMagic, is a “more sturdy, sleek, black and silver enclosure.” While aesthetics are certainly nice what really matters to us is the ability to use this device to archive our gigs and gigs of music, video, digital photos, etc. The TeraBank 1000GB lets us do that through a USB 2.0 connection capable of a maximum transfer rate of up to 480MB per second.

Very simple barrel-shaped world time clock with cities written on the 12 sidesThis world time clock designed by Charlotte van der Waals is a very simple and equally smart design to show the 24 different time zones around the world on one clock. The clock is barrel-shaped with 12 sides, each side having two cities written on it that are 12 hours apart. The clock face has no minute hand and tells you the current time (approximately) in whatever city is written on top as you roll the clock over. Very cool.

Ferrofluid ArtThe idea behind ferrofluid is to take a liquid that has magnetic properties and introduce a magnetic current through it. The field will then interact with the fluid, pulling and pushing it along the lines of current. When it’s in motion ferrofluid is an amazing thing to look at as it twists and distorts in patterns, looking almost like it’s some kind of alien life form related to The Blob.

It probably should come as no surprise that someone has combined ferrofluid with music and created a new form of art. Morpho Towers: Two Standing Spirals …
