Nextar's MA809 PMP is thin, priceyThe Nextar MA809 is a super skinny and sexy portable media player that measures just 0.25 inches thin. To put it in perspective, that’s almost half the iPhone 3G. It sports a 2.8-inch display (400 x 240 resolution), and an integrated voice recorder.

The Nextar MA809 also supports MP3/WMA audio files, JPEG/BMP/GIF picture files, and AVI video files. There’s also an FM radio in there. The 2GB model retails for around $100, while the 8GB version retails for $149. It will be available in the second quarter of 2009.

stealthwplcd-sbPut a normal computer monitor outdoors and the first sign of rain, sprinkles or dew it will be history. A screen that will be left outside or used extensively outside really needs to be rugged and able to stand up to liquids. Stealth computer has announced just such an LCD.

The little screen measures 8.4-inches and is water resistant meeting IP68/NEMA 6P specifications for water tightness. The rugged display is mounted inside an aluminum housing that provides strength and protection and supports IR touchscreen functionality.

Dell G2410 LCDOne of the biggest places that you can save on your power usage in your home or business is by cutting off devices like TVs and PC LCDs that draw power even when they aren’t being used. Dell has announced a new 14-inch LCD that has features for green power savings.

The display is called the G2410 24-inch Wide Green Flat Panel monitor. Typically, 24-inch LCDs have a resolution of 1920 x 1200, but dell cuts the G2410 back to 1920 x 1080, plenty for full 1080p movies and content. However, the gamer out there will be disappointed by the lack of full resolution.

Sony OLED Walkmans are UK bound with prices & datesThey’ve done it again. By “it”, I mean once again another country gets first dibs before us. Duh! Those in the UK will be receiving the new line of Sony’s OLED touchscreen Walkmans soon. Amazon UK has already started taking pre-orders.

The X Series will be available in 16GB and 32GB sizes, and will have a shipping period from a two to five weeks. The 16GB and 32GB models will retail for £214 and £283. It’s a great looking device. Are you sold at those prices?

LG 22-inch W2261VG LCD with 50k:1 contrastThis new monitor from LG is apparently only available in Japan at the moment. The W2261VG boasts a Full HD resolution TN panel LCD with 1000:1 contrast, 300 cd/m2 brightness and 160/170 viewing angles rating. Flip the switch and the 2ms rated panel can extend its 1000:1 contrast rating of up to 50k:1; revealing more details in darkly lit scenes.

As far as connectivity, it features HDMI, VGA and a HDCP compliant DVI-D digital port. Looks like its more suited for gaming and multimedia. It’s available now in Japan for $227.

The Windows Home Server 100 is packaged in a compact Mini-ITX enclosure, offers 500GB of storage for $399, and is designed to be quiet and energy-efficient.

The hardware specs aren’t bad either featuring a 1.6Ghz Intel Atom processor, 2GB of DDR2 Memory, 7200 RPM SATA-II HDD, Gigabit Ethernet, and S-Video & Audio output support via its Intel GMA 950 mainboard. Full press release below.

50 million PSPs sold worldwide

50 million PSPs sold worldwideSony claims to have sold 50 million PSP handhelds worldwide as of January 2009. That number includes all PSP-1000, 2000, and 3000 devices sold since December 2004. That’s a pretty impressive number, for sure.

But not so much if you’re sitting in Nintendo’s corporate offices, looking at 96.22 million DS handhelds sold between December 2004 and December 2008. I guess since they can’t brag about how many PS3 units have been sold, they have to have something to give them hope.

Newegg Intel SSD DealIt wasn’t so long ago that adding a SSD to your computer meant $1000 or more in additional costs. Buying a SSD to add as an upgrade was only marginally cheaper with even small capacity SSDs selling in the $800 range.

SSD prices are coming down quickly in part thanks to the technology getting cheaper and in part due to the poor global economy putting price pressure on manufacturers. Intel’s X25-M SSD can now be had on Newegg.com for under $370.

Asus begins 1000HE Eee PC pre-orders

Asus is preparing to release into retail a new Eee PC netbook. This one is called the 1000HE and it retails for around $400.

The Asus 1000HE Eee PC, available in black or blue body colors, weighs around 3.2 pounds and is powered by an Intel Atom N280 processor which draws not too much power. Battery life on this netbook is rated for around 9.5 hours, made possible in part by a special power management feature called the Super Hybrid Engine.

Asus Eee 1000HEAsus was one of the first companies to start the netbook segment and its Eee netbooks are the systems that prompted many computer makers to enter into the netbook category. Asus has a wide array of models and systems in its Eee lineup and today it has introduced its latest machine.

The new Asus Eee 1000HE is the first netbook to launch using the new Intel Atom N280 processor. The N280 is slightly faster than the N270 it replaces and is optimized for better battery life. The machine uses the Asus Super Hybrid Engine to boost CPU speed for performance or to lower it to get longer battery life depending on the user’s needs.

Acer Ferrari 1200 laptopLooks like Acer’s Ferrari Laptop just got an upgrade. The brand new Ferrari 1200 features the newer AMD ultra processor Turion X2. Acer decided to keep the carbon fiber and it still has the backlit LED display like the previous Ferrari 1000. You’ll get 4GB of DDR2 memory too. While Acer isn’t saying much about the specs of the 1200, we know it has a webcam and bluetooth based VoIP for internet telephony.

No word on price yet, but it’s available in the UK. Then in the US and rest of the world at some point. Hey, if you are lucky enough to drive the car, why not? Or maybe this is as close as you will get to a Ferrari. Either way, it’s all good.

Westinghouse readies 42-inch 1080p HDTV

Westinghouse Digital is getting ready to add a new LCD HDTV to is line up in February. It is called the TX-42F450S and it will retail for around $700.

The Westinghouse TX-42F450S is a 42-inch display which offers HD support for 1920 x 1080 resolution, or 1080p. It comes with a built-in ATSC/NTSC/ClearQAM tuner and sports a total of four HDMI connectors.

Dell has quietly taken the wraps off a new 22-inch display said to have very solid color representation for its display size. It is called the 2209WA and prices around $300.

The Dell 2209WA is a 22-inch widescreen flat panel monitor, said Dell, which makes use of something called TrueColor to garner “deeper, more vibrant reds, greens and blues.” It offers 1680 x 1050 resolution, 300 cd/m² brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 5ms response time and a vertical viewing angle of 178 degrees.

JVC’s HP-DX700 wooden headphonesIf you’ve wanted to get in on JVC’s high-end wooden headphones, but lacked the extra thousand bucks required, here’s some potential good news. This pair should be a bit more affordable. The HP-DX700 boasts a frequency range of 5Hz to 30kHz, with 64-ohm impedance and 101dB per mW.

We’d like to tell you more, but those are all the specs we have. Users of such high-end woody ear-gear will tell you that the wood gives the sound a richer, warmer tone. And while JVC hasn’t revealed a price or release date as yet, we don’t know how much you’ll save over the previous DX-1000, but the wait should be worth it.
