Acer Japan to launch GD245HQbid 3D Monitor

Posted in 3D by Conner Flynn on March 25th, 2010

You don’t need a fancy pair of glasses to spot all the 3D TVs and monitors zooming in and out of our periphery. Now it’s Acer’s turn. Acer will be launching its new Gaming GD245HQbid 3D monitor for those in Japan tomorrow.

The monitor will cost you 45,000Yen (or $486), which we suppose is a decent price if we had any 3D games to play on it. This 23.6-incher features a 1000:1 contrast ratio and a 2ms response time. Looks like 3D glasses are sold separately, so…so much for that decent price.

Posted in Samsung by Shane McGlaun on January 20th, 2010

I confess that I am not a big fan of the dynamic contrast ratios that many manufacturers quote for LCD TVs and monitors today. The whole thing is merely an attempt to get consumers to think a billion to one contrast ratio is better than the next guys 1000:1 ratio.

Samsung has unveiled a new set of LCDs including the F2370H and the F2380MX that both claim the world’s highest contrast ratio with a firm 3000:1. Samsung does say that the screens have a 150,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio for those of you who prefer the big numbers.

100-inch screen mounted flush in the ceilingMost kids have a 14 to 20 something inch TV in their room. This kid has a 98-inch screen installed in his ceiling. And we, like you, are jealous. Patti Deni (Our candidate for mom of the year) had it installed for her son. At it’s heart the setup is an NEC projector along with some Draper projection mirrors, which fills that huge StarGlas60 display with full HD images than can be viewed from almost any angle.

This install couldn’t have been easy. Word is they had to reframe and reinforce the ceiling to do it. Now that’s an awesome mom.
