Japanese banana vending machines

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on July 5th, 2010

The Japanese put everything in vending machines. I’m surprised they don’t have prostitutes in them, where you can pay and the door opens. Now they even have fresh bananas thanks to Dole’s new machines which are installed in an underground connection at the Shibuya subway station.

Bananas are a hot commodity too. The vending machine was sold out on its first day. A single banana is about $1.50 (130 yen) and a bunch of five or six is almost $4.50. (390 yen) I guess people are willing to pay for a healthier snack.

Posted in Netbook by Conner Flynn on June 29th, 2010

We haven’t heard any news about this one since back in April. While the delay of Lenovo’s Skylight smartbook is disappointing, it gives Lenovo some time to swap in a newer, more powerful, 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor.

The Skylight smartbook should be powered by Google’s Android OS when it is finally released before the end of the year. The processor would certainly make this one more attractive to buyers.

Posted in Apple by Shane McGlaun on June 28th, 2010

After lots of waiting and anticipating Apple finally launched the iPhone 4 last week. The device had a ton of pre-orders and there were huge lines at some stores to get one.

There were estimates early in the launch that numbers could go as high as 1.5 million units sold. Apple has officially confirmed that over the first three days the iPhone 4 was available it sold 1.7 million units.

iPhone 4 selling out, may top 1.5 million in one weekend

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on June 24th, 2010

Some stores have already sold out of iPhone 4s before the end of the day. Nine of 20 Apple stores had already exhausted their stock in the morning, and all others are expected to clear theirs by the end of the day. Earlier iPhone launches have usually taken a full weekend before significant sellouts, so this is really saying something.

According to one analyst, assuming Apple reserved about half its total launch supply for those who hadn’t pre-ordered, we can expect to see at least one million and as many as 1.5 million iPhones sell this weekend. The low end would match Apple’s previous best sales, with the iPhone 3GS. They may just hit a new record.

Redbox getting $1.50 per night Blu-ray rentals?

Posted in movies by Shane McGlaun on June 4th, 2010

I think it serves Blockbuster right that all of their stores are starting to go out of business. At one time, there were no less than six locations in my town of 100,000 people. Over the last year, they have all gone out of business. I thank Redbox for killing off Blockbuster and their late fees.

One thing I am not a big fan of on Redbox, other than the fact that I can never remember to return the flicks I rent, is that it offers no Blu-ray titles. Redbox president Mitch Lowe has now stated that Blu-ray rentals are coming in the next few months for $1.50 per night.

Posted in Mobile Phones by Conner Flynn on May 18th, 2010

Look at the size of this watch phone. It’s so big I can see Cindy Crawford’s mole. They describe it as a “compact 47 x 55 frame” that is the world’s smallest super cell phone. I suppose if you want an actual phone on your wrist, you want it this size though just to be functional.

The Penthouse watch phone features a 1.5 inch touchscreen, full native quad band functionality for worldwide use, Dual SIM card slots for business and personal communications, and is fully unlocked for use on whatever network you choose.
