Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on December 28th, 2009

Short cords on things like vacuum cleaners really stink. And if you use an extension cord, well, it just gets in the way. Let’s face it, cords are just plain messy no matter what you do. Well, the newly designed Rambler Socket is here to help.

It’s basically a 1.5 meter cord rolled up and hidden behind a socket. When needed, all you need to do is pull the cord out and connect your appliance instead of using an extension. When you’re done, just give the cord a slight tug and it winds the cord back into the wall.

Firebox launches Digital Video Memo

Firebox launches Digital Video MemoIt’s the 21st century. Time to stop using post-it notes and leave messages in a more high-tech way. Now you can leave a note to whoever you like by recording a 30 second video message with the press of a button. Think about it. A note written note on the fridge that simply says, “Keep your hands off my Ice Cream” is fine, but it doesn’t have the same impact as a video note saying the same thing, where your tone of voice and scowl make it very clear that your words are to be heeded.

Once you’ve recorded your message, the LED light will flash to alert passers by that there’s a message. They press play and get yelled at via the 1.5-inch OLED display.

3TB drives coming soon

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on November 16th, 2009

3TB drives coming soonIf you’ve been wondering when we might see 3TB drives arriving, the answer is soon. At least according to Dr Geoff Barrall, founder and CEO of Drobo. He says that Drobos will be offering a 3TB drive by April 2010. Drobo uses Western Digital drives, so there’s a good chance that it could mean that Western Digital will be outing some 3TB drives of their own very soon.

Currently Western Digital offers a 2TB Caviar Black 3.5-inch SATA drive. A 3TB, 4-platter drive would need 750GB per platter – a 50 per cent increase over what the Caviar Black has.
