European customs ordered to seize PlayStation shipments

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on February 28th, 2011

You might recall that Sony and LG have been at each other’s throats lately. It involves allegations of patent infringement. Now Sony has a major setback in Europe because of this. The civil court of justice in the Hague has just granted LG a preliminary injunction that will have all new PlayStation 3s imported into Europe confiscated by customs for at least ten days.

Bad news for European gamers who just imported a console for sure. They are already being stockpiled in warehouses and the injunction could be extended even further. That would lead to a shortage of PS3s on store shelves. Right now retailers generally have two to three weeks worth of stock on hand.

Coke and Heinz to use PlantBottles

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on February 24th, 2011

The Coca-Cola Company has announced that its bottle technology will now also be used by Heinz for its ketchup packaging. The bottle technology was launched in 2009 and uses a plastic sourced from sugarcane waste to replace 30 per cent of the plastic in bottles.

Heinz will introduce PlantBottled ketchup this summer across the US. That means that 120 million of its 20-ounce retail and foodservice bottles will now get the partly renewable packaging. These PlantBottles will even have a special label with environmental messages. Coke wants to invest more than $150 million in the PlantBottle technology. Their goal is to reach 100 per cent renewable and recyclable packaging as soon as they can.
