As back to school gets closer, we will see more and more new notebooks and netbooks launched by computer makers. The back to school shopping season is one of the best times of the year for many computer makers so they load up with new product offerings.

Gateway has announced a new NV series of notebooks that are offered with Intel or AMD hardware on the inside starting at a budget price of $499.99. The machines all share many of the same features including a 15.6-inch HD LED backlit LCD screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768. The machines also have dual speakers and HDMI outputs.

Always Innovating has something very interesting with its Touch Book tablet, a touchscreen device with a detachable keyboard, embedded Linux OS and a low $300 price tag. The company has published photos of a production device on their page.

Along with the photos, comes this announcement: “We intend to start shipping the Touch Book next month, in July 2009. Our first batch of Touch Books is already in production.” Pre-orders are still open for $300 ($400 with keyboard). Specs below.

A while beck we mentioned that Viewsonic had announced its first all-in-one PC called the VPC100. All-in-one PCs are nice devices that offer all the parts that you need for a computer inside the LCD. The machines are like netbooks on the inside for the most part.

At the time, the PC was announced we didn’t have a ship date from Viewsonic to share. Viewsonic has now announced that the VPC100 is shipping for $599. In case you missed the first post about the product, the VPC100 runs an Intel Atom 1.64GHz CPU, Windows XP home and has an 18.5-inch LCD.

The desktop computer was once the most common computer that consumers purchased. Today prices on notebooks and netbooks have came down so much that you can buy a notebook for the same price or even less than your average desktop. Still there are some who prefer a desktop to a notebook and for that group Gateway has unveiled new systems.

Gateway has introduces two new desktop lines including the small form factor SX series and the mini-tower DX series. The SX desktops start at $499.99 and for that price you get some nice hardware. The rig runs an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 CPU, 4GB of RAM, and a 640GB HDD.

Hot on the heels of their BlackArmor line upgrade, Seagate has updated their FreeAgent drives for the Mac with new features and improved performance. First there’s the FreeAgent Go Pro for Mac, a 2.5-inch external drive that features a FireWire 800 interface and FireWire 400 and USB interface. It will be available later this month in 250GB, 320GB and 500GB sizes and will cost $130, $150 and $190 each.

The other addition to the line up today is the Go Dock+, a USB hub with 3 ports, which is available now for $40.

We told you about the K-box from Kerchoonz a few weeks ago. The portable speaker that aims to turn nearly any surface into a speaker with an emphasis on bass. It’s targeted at those who want sound on the go, but don’t want to carry bulky speakers with them.

Gateway’s latest Timeline netbook is now available for purchase. The netbook is powered by a 1.2GHz Athlon 64 L110 processor with an integrated ATI Radeon X1270 graphics card, a WXGA resolution display, a 2GB RAM and a 250GB HDD.

Some other features include a memory card reader, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g connectivity, integrated webcam, three USB 2.0 ports and a 6-cell Li-ion battery. You can get it in two colors, NightSky Black and Cherry Red. The Gateway Timeline LT3100 will cost you $400 and up, depending on the specs you choose.

Most students haven’t been out of school very long for the summer. Despite that fact, it’s already time for most parents to be gearing up for back to school shopping. If you have a student, going off to college a new notebook may be on the shopping list this year. Toshiba has announced a new series of notebooks perfect for students.

The series is called the Satellite L and starts at $549.99, not much more than some netbooks. The new line includes 14-inch L510 and L515 modes, 15.6-inch L500, 16-inch L505, and a 17.3-inch L550/555 model. The laptops have many features in common like HD TruBrite screens, sleep-and-charge USB ports, and hard drives with capacities from 250GB to 500GB.

HP may have been late getting into the netbook party. However, it is making up for lost time by introducing all sorts of new models. HP announced this week a new netbook called the Mini 5101 series offered through its small and medium business site.

The machine has an Intel Atom N280 processor running at 1.66GHz and uses the Intel 945GSE chipset. Memory options include 1GB or 2GB of 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM. Storage options include 160GB, 250GB, and 320GB 7200 rpm HDDs or a 128GB SSD.

We told you about this one earlier this month. It’s Toshiba’s first netbook. And it looks like it’s ready to take its rightful place in your hands. Toshiba’s new NB205 netbook does a good job of standing out from the crowd with nice specs at the right price.

Then there’s the $399 model available in four different colors, which also features a higher quality chassis and a chiclet-style keyboard.
