Netronix PocketBook 602 e-book Reader hits the FCC

The Netronix PocketBook 602 e-book reader has been approved by the FCC, like a freshly born child smacked on the butt and sent on it’s way. That means that this eReader will be available in the US market very soon.

The device features a 6-inch e-Ink display with a 532MHz Freescale ARM11 processor, optional Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G/3.5G wireless data and a customized Linux OS. The Netronix PocketBook 602 also supports PDF, ePUB, FB2, HTML, TXT, PRC, MOBI, RTF, DOC, JPG, and MP3 file formats. It looks pretty good in black.

JoliCloud 1.0 now ready for your netbook

It’s been quite a wait, but JoliCloud 1.0 is finally ready for download for your netbook. This Linux-based OS is also compatible with touchscreen displays. Once installed, you’ll have that 700-app directory to keep you busy for awhile.

Did we mention that it’s free? This operating system is based in the cloud, which should allow you to automatically synchronize across multiple devices, while managing your interface from said cloud as well, as long as you have an HTML5-supporting browser.

The ARCTIC GYM is for people without a Wii who still want to workout at home with interactive peripherals. The Arctic Gym includes an interactive exercise mat that allows you to keep fit, lose weight and burn calories. This video game system detects your movements and measures your performance and fitness progress.

The mat is basically thirty pressure sensitive pads with sensors detecting feet and body positions. When the system recognizes your movements, it is translated on-screen, so it can track and display real-time movements.

Toshiba unveils 3D upgrade kit for its Blu-ray recorders

Toshiba is making a 3D upgrade kit available for its range of Blu-ray recorders, in the wake of it’s Regza line of 3D HDTVs. All of their new Blu-ray recorders will pack a hard drive inside, while the flagship RD-X10 will feature 2TB of storage space, letting you play 3D movies right out of the box. It will arrive in Japan this September for $2,500.

There will also be three more models which take advantage of the 3D upgrade kit, but so far there is no word on pricing. The company is going pretty heavy on 3D obviously.

MSI GT660R hits the US

Good news MSI fans. MSI’s GT660R is a 16″ gaming laptop that has finally arrived in the US, with some nice specifications like an Intel Core i7-740QM quad-core 1.73GHz processor, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX285M 1GB graphics card, 6GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB of hard drive space and a Blu-ray combo drive.

It also delivers a resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels and sports a 720p webcam. The GT660 also features 802.11n Wi-Fi, Gigabit LAN, Bluetooth, a couple of USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports, an eSATA/USB combo port, ExpressCard slot, 4-in-1 card reader, VGA and HDMI outputs.

Onkyo’s LPF10M01 is basically a netbook screen without the netbook. 10.1 inches of LED-backlit LCD with a resolution of 1,024 x 600 and 250 nits of brightness and a 500 to 1 contrast ratio. The interesting part is the HDMI input, which is something you don’t normally see in picture frames.

There’s also a USB port, SDHC and Memory Stick card reader, and 512MB of integrated memory. It could be nice as a secondary display with it’s 140 degree horizontal viewing angle and 110 on the vertical axis.

System76 Starling netbooks now available for pre-order

If you’ve been waiting for System76′s Starling netbooks, you’ll be glad to know that they are now available for pre-order. These netbooks look sexy and stylish for a price that won’t break the bank. Some features include a 3-cell battery, an Intel Atom N455 1.66GHz processor with an integrated single-channel DDR2 memory controller along with an integrated graphics core which is capable of handling 720p HD playback.

Some other specs include 802.11n Wi-Fi, a VGA camera, and an SD memory card slot with a built-in Kensington Lock.

Samsung SpinPoint MT2 2.5-inch 1TB HDD

Samsung is now shipping the Spinpoint MT2, a 2.5-inch 1TB internal hard drive for use with mobile applications and set top boxes (DVRs, Digital TVs etc.), where you want your drives to run quiet and cool. The drive only runs at 5400 rpm, which is typical for such high-capacity drives. It uses Samsung’s proprietary SilentSeek and NoiseGuard technologies.

This drive should be fast enough for an HD digital video recorder and is likely to be much quieter than a 3.5″ disk. No word yet on price, but it should start making the rounds soon.

Seagate announces GoFlex Home

Seagate’s new GoFlex Home is for users who need a ton of storage. It’s available in 1TB or 2TB capacities and connects via a local network with Windows, Mac computers (Time Machine compatible) or DLNA devices like the PS3.

It will act as a media file server for photos, music and movies and can be used to backup your home computers. GoFlex Home’s storage can grow by changing the drive module and by adding another disk via the USB port. You can also do both at the same time. If you own an iPhone/iPad or Blackberry, there is also an optional service that will let you access your data while on the go.

Asus UL20FT shipping in August

If you are looking for a new notebook, you may want to look into the UL20FT from Asus. The 12.1″ notebook is not only thin and lightweight, but it also has an Intel Core i3-330UM processor, making it much faster than the Japanese version, which has a Celeron U3400 processor.

So we in the US have the faster version, which can be had for $579. It should be released on August 6th. Some other specs include 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, a VGA webcam, HDMI out and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Viliv N5 ships in the US

The Viliv N5 is like a netbook…for tiny people. You’ll get all the specs that you would find in a regular 10″ netbook, aside from the 4.8″ display. But at least you can fold it up and put it in your pocket. Dynamism is even offering same day shipping if you must have it now.

The N5 features a 3G modem for about $799, but if you want a Wi-Fi only version you’ll need to wait until July 19th when it will cost you $649. The Viliv N5 is powered by Windows 7, with an Intel Atom Z520 1.3GHz processor, 1GB RAM, a QWERTY keyboard and a 32GB SSD.

Acer Android 2.2 Tablets coming in Q4 2010

Acer is still in the Android game. They have some android handsets, a 7-inch tablet that might be released later this year and possibly two netbooks coming soon. Now it looks like there’s also a 10-inch Android 2.2 tablet coming in the fourth quarter of this year along with the 7-inch model.

DigiTimes claims to have spoken with “sources from notebook players” who say that the tablets will be powered by ARM chipsets and will have a stronger focus on multimedia and entertainment. Acer is also apparently working with some carriers to support the tablets.
