G-Tech unveils portable 1TB external drive

G-Tech G-RAID miniG-Technology is showcasing at MacWorld a 1TB external hard drive which offers RAID 0 configuration. It is called the G-Tech G-RAID mini and it should be available in March.

G-Technology said the G-Tech G-RAID mini is a full sized RAID 0 solution set into a portable solution. It features a triple FireWire 400/800/USB 2.0 interface and is designed to work right out of the box with Mac OS X systems.

LaCie revamps d2 Quadra external hard drives

LaCie d2 QuadraLaCie has been busying showing off new external hard drives at CES. Another one of its announcements is the new LaCie d2 Quadra, available in various storage configurations and starting at around $200.

The LaCie d2 Quadra is designed for professional use primarily. It’s available in multiple interface options – eSATA, FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and USB – and sports an aluminum heat sink system to keep things cool. The d2 Quadra has been designed with RAID use in mind – one can connect two more more drives o the host in either RAID 1 for data redundancy and protection, or striped together in RAID 0 for faster data transfers.

LaCie Hard Drive has a simplistic designLaCie has put out its share of interesting looking external drives like the Sam Hecht designers and of course that golden number, and they’ve now added to the lineup with this minimalist design from Neil Poulton.

The LaCie Hard Disk, named as simple as it looks, consists of an unobtrusive smooth black box with few distinguishing marks other than the cool blue LED strip (everyone likes cool blue LED strips) on the underbelly and the LaCie brand name on the side. The company says it even runs quietly and cool since it has no fan and uses a “smart” heat dissipation design.

Western Digital gives My Book drives an upgrade

Western Digital My Book External hard drive Essential Edition 2.0Western Digital has unveiled some new features and a new look to its line of external My Book hard drives. The Home Edition, Office Edition and Essential Edition 2.0 all offer up to 1TB of data storage along with a compact design and are smart enough to power themselves off when you computer shuts down.

Both the Home and Office editions have also traded in the light ring on the front for a straight bar that not only indicates power but gives you an estimate of available capacity at a glance. They also house a backup feature that will automatically back up anything that’s saved to it.

Iomega StorCenter Network Hard DriveIomega has definitely come a long way since the days of the Zip drive. Today the long time data storage equipment provider unveiled a new line of Iomega StorCenter Network Hard Drives, available in 1TB ($389), 750GB ($359) and 500GB ($269).

The Iomega StorCenter Network Hard Drives are designed for home office and small business networks. They offer features like media and print server capabilities, backup and disaster recovery software and compatibility with both Mac and Windows based computers. All three products use 3.5-inch 7200 RPM SATA-II hard drives with an 8MB cache and the 1TB unit is a two-drive product supporting RAID 0 (striping), RAID 1 (mirroring) and JBOD (which treats both drives as a large single drive).
