Xbox Live Gold subscription at Amazon for $29.97

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on January 19th, 2009

Xbox Live Gold subscription at Amazon for $29.97Yep, you read that right! Microsoft’s Xbox Live Gold subscription, which normally costs you $50 annually, is being sold by Amazon right now for $29.97. We have no idea what it means, but a similar discount was apparently happening at Buy.com last week. Could it mean that Microsoft might be moving toward a lower price for the subscription?

We have no idea. Who cares about “why” or “how”, we just think it’s awesome. Any 40% markdown that leaves us some extra cash for games is fine by us.

Apple keyboard concept

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on January 19th, 2009

Apple keyboard conceptThis Apple Keyboard concept makes a lot of sense. It features all the necessary keys required in a Mac OS X environment and has an induction charge and synchronize segment on the right side that will hold your iPhone or iPod. The keyboard also has six programmable OLED keys.

It may not exist in the real world, but that didn’t stop the designer from giving it a price of $79.99. Too bad, it is only a concept, price or no. Apple fans would love this design and seeing a spot for the iPhone next to a keyboard makes me wonder why Apple hasn’t done it yet. Seems like a natural fit.

Wi-Fire extends Wi-Fi signals

Posted in Wi-Fi by Conner Flynn on January 19th, 2009

Wi-Fire extends Wi-Fi signalsThe Wi-Fire is a USB device that will boost Wi-Fi signals by using a directional antenna and a powerful receiver that works with it’s proprietary software. With this device your computer can detect and access wireless sources within a 1,000 foot radius. And the folks at Maximum PC put it to the test.

They were surprised at being “350 feet from the router, with the signal passing through an insulated, double-thick interior wall and a steel garage door, the Wi-Fire delivered TCP throughput of 14.5Mb/s.” It’s only $79 and makes Wi-Fi a bullet that goes through said walls and garage doors.

Sony Final Fantasy VII edition PS3Final Fantasy is the game series that just won’t die. Like the Godfather Michael Corleone, everytime you are out they keep pulling you back in. The latest incarnation is the re-release of Advent Children, and Sony’s celebrating with another special edition console to celebrate it.

The new PS3 itself features a 160GB HDD and a matte “Cloud Black” paint job with Cloud’s Strike Wolf emblem applied on top. The bundle that comes with the movie and includes a demo of Final Fantasy XIII will sell for about $550 in Japan when it arrives next month.

Posted in Netbook by Shane McGlaun on January 19th, 2009

Cherrypal BingWith the poor economy and the soaring popularity of cheap netbooks, it’s become normal for new machines to be introduced frequently. Many of the netbooks on the market are from big name makers like Dell, HP, Asus, and MSI. However, even smaller and lesser known computer firms are getting in on the netbook action like Cherrypal.

The Cherrypal Bing is a 10.2-inch netbook offering a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 with 160GB of storage, Intel Atom N270, 160Gb HDD, Wi-Fi, and a webcam. Sounds just like all the other 10-inch netbooks on the market right?

Acer Aspire One in 10-inch flavor spied

Posted in Acer by Shane McGlaun on January 19th, 2009

Acer Aspire One 10-inchI really like netbooks. I think they are a great compromise between portability, price, and performance for the most part. I have worked extensively from a 10-inch MSI Wind and found it easy to do. What I am not particularly keen on is working from smaller 8-inch netbooks like the Acer Aspire One.

Those that really like the Acer, but yearn for a larger screen will be glad to hear that a 10-inch Aspire One has been spied and pictures are now available. The machine sports a different look, but the specs are much the same.

Acer introduces a pair of new ergonomic LCDs

Posted in Acer by Shane McGlaun on January 19th, 2009

Generic Acer LCDMost LCDs on the market today have plenty of brightness, good color reproduction and response times fast enough for gaming. Where the major differences in brands come in are things like color reproduction and the type of stand the display uses.

Most cheap LCDs have stands that only allow the screen to tilt slightly. When you type for eight hours or more on the LCD, it’s really important to be able to customize the display to your needs to prevent eye and neck strain. Acer has introduced a pair of new LCDs that are ergonomic, offering multiple adjustments for tilt, angle, and height.

Fujitsu phone is first to be waterproof and offer fingerprint authentication

Posted in Fujitsu by Shane McGlaun on January 19th, 2009

Fujitsu PrimeI was never really into fingerprint authentication on my devices. The first thing I ever purchased with a fingerprint scanner was my Dell XPS M1330 laptop. I can safely say fingerprint authentication on my laptop sucks. It usually takes three or more swipes to get the reader to accept my fingerprints and I can log in by typing my password faster than by swiping.

Some folks really like the idea of fingerprint authentication though and Fujitsu has announced the first waterproof cell phone to offer fingerprint authentication. Why waterproof you wonder? Well, I know a lady who has dropped not one or two iPhones into the toilet, but three. Yeah that’s a crappy iPhone.

Night Owl iGen Night Vision cameraIf you’re looking for a monocular that can capture images in complete darkness, look no further. Whether searching for Owls or just plain being a perv of some sort, the Night Owl iGen Night Vision Camera is the world’s only night scope that can also take pictures. The device features a 330′ field of view, 650X ambient light amplification, a CCD/Micro-display system for enhanced viewing, and a standard secure digital memory card storage.

The pictures are black and white and get saved onto an SD Memory Card. What I want to know is what motivates people to go out in the bitter cold dead of night and snap pics. Are you guys really finding anything that exciting? It’s not like you’ve obtained proof of Bigfoot or aliens.

Drive someone nuts: USB Phantom KeystrokerApril fools day will be here before you know it. Get prepared now and be ready when the day comes. This USB Keystroker is all about messing up your victim’s keyboard and mouse movements. Just hook this USB Keystroker into one of the USB ports of his or her computer and it will start randomly locking the CAPs button of the keyboard, making keystrokes and jiggling the mouse around the screen.

The poor sucker will think their computer is possessed. It also allows you to choose from three levels of speed for it’s phantom activities. It looks just like a flash drive. Just plug it into any USB port in the back of a computer, where it’s hardly noticeable. At only $13 it’s almost too much fun not to purchase.
