Play World of Warcraft for free up to level 20

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on June 29th, 2011

If you haven’t been bit by the WOW bug yet, Blizzard is hoping to entice you by allowing you to play unrestricted up to level 20 before the game starts asking for money. At that point you can choose to ditch your character and all that hard work, or pay $20 for the full game along with the Burning Crusade expansion which ups your level cap to 70 and opens Outlands, and the Blood Elf and Draenei races.

Also, the Burning Crusade expansion is completely free to everyone who has the game and hasn’t already bought it. Seems like a good time to get into WOW.

Skullcandy Vandal iPhone speaker dock

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on June 26th, 2011

Skullcandy has a new iPhone dock, all decked out in gold and black veneer. Inside of this retro-looking dock there are 80mm woofers and 19mm tweeters, with a total output of 21 watts. That’s pretty decent for a dock.

Now for the bad news. That would be the price of $179.99. I guess you are paying for the style here more than anything else. Who’s interested at that price?

You can also use this as a remote control for your VIZIO devices with the universal remote control app and built-in IR blaster. Sounds pretty good, but there’s no info on price just yet.

SpongeBob crystallized Swarovski iPad case

Posted in iPad accessories by Reuben Drake on June 14th, 2011

Oh hell no! They have combined two things that I hate on this iPad case, Spongebob and Swarovski crystals. Well, if you happen to be a fan of SpongeBob SquarePants and/or gaudy shiny overpriced glass, this is the perfect iPad case for you.

It’s made from crystallized Swarovski, adding some bling to the cartoon character. It comes with a month’s warranty, cleaning cloth and phone strap. This SpongeBob crystallized Swarovski iPad case is available for $409.

iFixit CEO strips a Sony Bloggie 3D

Posted in Camcorders by Reuben Drake on June 14th, 2011

Sony got iFixit.com CEO Kyle Wiens to do a teardown of the new Bloggie 3D mini camcorder. While this one is a bit on the boring side, you still get an eyeful of all the bits and pieces that make up the pocket 3D video camera.

It is mostly just all the parts laid out and some close-ups of them. It basically amounts to a clever marketing video on Sony’s part with the help of ifixit. Have a look at the link below and you’ll see what I mean.

We knew that the new Asus UX 21 Ultrabook would retail for under $1,000 and now DigiTimes is saying that Asus will release the UX21 Ultrabook in September for $899. That would make it $100 cheaper than the 11 inch MacBook Air which retails for $999, and Asus certainly wants to compete with the MacBook Air.

The Asus UX21 features an 11.6 inch display and an Intel Core i7 processor. Will they take some sales from Apple with this one? We are eager to find out.

More details on Sony PlayStation Vita

Posted in PS Vita by Conner Flynn on June 9th, 2011

It was thought that the PlayStation Vita might be able to do video output using the multiport on the bottom, but now it is looking like that’s a big no according to the official FAQ. However, Sony exec Michael Denny said today that the PS Vita will be region-free just like the PS3. That’s some good news.

Sony has ruled out a UMD reader of any sort. No surprise there, but Sony says that it will “consider every possibility for support on bought UMD games,”. I wonder what they will do on that front. Nothing at the moment, but soon perhaps.
