GPS devices re nice and many of the automotive GPS devices can be used when you are walking as well. The catch is that the typical automotive GPS device is far from rugged and one drop onto the driveway can kill the machine.

Getac has announced a new rugged GPS/PDA device that can withstand drops and more. The device is ruggedized to meet MIL-STD 810F and is IP54 certified. The machine offers 8-hour battery life and has a 3.5-inch touch-enabled screen with an option for a screen readable in full sunlight.

You use Best Buy for TVs, washing machines, computer peripherals and cell phones, so why not use them to shop for a $12,000 electric motorcycle? Why the hell not? Brammo and Best Buy have plans to sell the $11,995 Enertia electric motorcycle at five West Coast Best Buy stores in May.

Eventually Brammo would like to sell bikes at every Best Buy location around the world, but they want to see how the initial test works out. They should probably have pimply faced geek squad dudes drive around on them for promotion. And so they are diverted from touching anyone’s computer.

Today the LG Versa has been officially announced. To recap, the phone features a 3-inch(480 x 240)touch screen, an attachable QWERTY keypad, a 2 megapixel camera with autofocus, and flash.

The phone also boasts a music player that can run while you are performing other tasks, a microSD slot capable of holding up to 16GB and Bluetooth 2.1. Some other features include mobile IM for AIM, MSN, Yahoo, web browsing with Flash compatibility, VCast music and is VZ Navigator-capable.

If you’re a Nokia cell phone user, you’ll want to check out the KIT Eco Charger from Carphone Warehouse, now for sale in the UK for £23. The KIT Eco Charger is a bit different from other chargers in that it can turn itself off automatically once your phone is fully charged. That way, you can leave your handset connected to it as long as you like and not have to worry about wasting electricity. Always a good thing.

According to a company spokesperson, “If everyone in the UK used a KIT Eco Charger we would save approximately 300,000,000 kwh of electricity per year. At an average cost of 28.5p per kwh, that would be a collective saving as a country of £85m!” Sounds pretty good. Sadly not everyone in the UK uses a Nokia.

What are the odds? There’s a rumor floating around on the internet. And it involves the PSP. That’s never happened before… Sarcasm aside, this latest rumor predicts an actual lustworthy design that includes a sliding screen and yet no new hardware inside.

If true, that means it’ll have the exact same internal guts as your current model, it will just be more cellphone-like. On one hand, i’d be glad they upped the design and payed attention to various fan renders like the one above, but what good does that do you if the innards don’t match?

Intel typically holds the majority of the CPU market no matter what segment it is in. However, when it comes to processors for the mobile phone market ARM is tops. ARM processors are in most smartphones and other high-end devices.

ARM announced a new processor today called the ARM Cortex-M0 processor that is being called its smallest, lowest power, and energy efficient processor available. The processor has a low gate count but still delivers 32-bit performance.

Something interesting is happening in Germany and for once it has nothing to do with David Hasselhoff. It has to do with the fact that municipal budgets are tight. Many towns throughout the world are turning off street lights at night to save money. Saving money and electricity is awesome. But we need light when we need light. Like when old ladies are walking home.

So some German towns seem to have found a solution. Their lighting grids have been modified with a system called Dial4Light. That means that residents can use their cellphones to turn on the lights street by street. When 15 minutes passes, a timer turns the street dark again. That means less wasted energy and residents still have light.

The LG Versa may be one to look out for. It will feature a bunch of accessories aimed at fashionistas, with fashionable items from the likes of Liz Claiborne and Dooney & Burke, plus several water resistant, sport, and plain leather cases that will keep the Versa safe.

The LG Versa itself will launch in March for $199.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a contract. If you want, you can spend another $29.99 for a compatible game pad controller for cell phone gaming.

Camping used to be about getting away from technology and the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We knew there must have been some significance to the year 2012 other than the Mayan calendar ending. The GSM Association has announced that it and 17 of it’s partner companies are working a universal cellphone charger solution. They think they will have a common format in place by 2012.

Seems like it should meet the deadline no problem since the group’s choice of connector, micro-USB, has already gained acceptance as a pretty common format. They say that the “majority” of new phones sold by 2012 will support what they’re describing as the universal charging solution, which will need to meet strict requirements to be broadly compatible.

Whenever there is controversy regarding an iPhone app, it’s usually Apple who has the problem. In this case it’s Vegas who has a bone to pick with an iPhone app. Nevada gaming officials aren’t happy about a card counting app for the iPhone and iPod touch. Obviously it gives Blackjack players quite an advantage.

In fact using any device to count cards is considered a felony under Nevada laws. Good thing for cheaters that the app has a “stealth mode,” which makes it harder to spot unless you’re really looking for it. Individual casinos have their own policies on cellphones, so you better check first and make sure you know the rules, unless you plan on an extended vacation.

According to Reuters, Samsung will sell “more than three” Android phones by the end of this year, and plans a phone using Linux-based software before 2010.

No word on which countries will get them first, but the company’s head of product strategy Won-Pyo Hong said that the US and Europe would be covered by this year’s end. Linux has had little success in cellphones so far, but that is changing with the LiMo platform and Google’s using Linux for it’s Android platform.

Casio is a name more associated with watches and Hello Kitty phones than quality cell phones, but that doesn’t mean they can’t deliever one. This new 5 megapixel shooter from Casio is known as the Exilim C721, keeping the name of Casio’s line of digital cameras.

It features autofocus capability and a high resolution WVGA rotating display that makes it more natural to capture images while using a phone. The image quality and features won’t be as good as a standalone digital camera, but what are you gonna do?

One of the biggest problems on many handsets when it comes time to surf the Internet on the go is the browser offered on the phone. Many mobile web browsers force users to view websites in a way that makes navigation difficult and runs the surfing experience we are used to.

Bitstream announced today that it is offering a free public beta for its BOLT web browser that promises to allow users of high-end and low-end cell phones alike to surf the web with a desktop like experience. BOLT allows users to view full desktop style web pages and to zoom in on sections they want to view closer.

One of my favorite board games when I was a kid was Clue. Figuring out who killed Col. Mustard and what they used to do it was great fun. The game has hung around and is now a classic with the same game play that many of us grew up on. Hasbro is also announcing new versions of the game with updated game play.

The latest version is called Clue: Secrets & Spies and has players trying to infiltrate a criminal league as a super spy. Players try to figure out who Agent Mustard and Agent Scarlet are and complete missions independently.
