Altec Lansing inMotion Moondance GLOW

One of Altec Lansing’s newest digital audio docking speaker systems is the inMotion Moondance GLOW. This hippie-sounding bedroom system will cost you around $180 when it emerges from a cloudy haze in October.

The Moondance GLOW is called as such because you can choose a color and intensity and then project it onto the wall. It is a strange feature but, if it gets you some bedroom action, so be it. Besides lighting the night bedroom sky, this compact digital player-plus-alarm clock has two 3-inch full-range drivers to produce sound and a dock for your favorite compatible iPod.

Microsoft Explorer Mouse

Microsoft said this week its new BlueTrack Technology is the world’s “most advanced tracking technology” for consumers and their comptuer mice. Two new mice – the Explorer Mouse and Explorer Mini Mouse – are the first to debut with BlueTrack, pricing around $100 and $80, respectively.

Microsoft says this of BlueTrack: “The large, blue beam and specular optics architecture, in conjunction with a Microsoft-designed image sensor and proprietary pixel geometry, generates a high-contrast picture of the mousing surface that allows exceptional tracking accuracy. The BlueTrack Technology light beam emanating from the bottom of the mouse is more than four times as large as the average laser beam used in today’s mice, enabling reliable mouse tracking even on difficult surfaces such as carpet.”

Lego NXT autonomous Wall-E robot is the coolest yet

Lego NXT autonomous Wall-E robotBazmarc from the Trossen Robotics Community Forums has built a Lego Wall-E that kills all others dead. It has more movement, therefore more cuteness. It’s the Lego NXT Autonomous Wall-E Robot! Of course it looks like Wall-E, but also has some impressive features. Like I said, it’s movements blow other Wall-E Lego projects away. The result is that it’s more genuine. It’s a TRC Project Contest entry and though they haven’t even announced the contest yet, I can’t imagine anything else beating this little guy.

Technical specs: Technical specs: 1 Mindstorms NXT with rechargable pack, 3 Lego NXT Servo Motors, 4 Lego PowerFonctions motors, 2 PF IR receiver, 1 UltraSonic sensor, 1 Sound sensor, 1 InfraRed link sensor, (HiTechnic), 1 NXTservo module and 1 mini RC servo, (Mindsensors), 10 AA batteries, Lego parts mainly from the Bulldozer set #8275 and other parts from various technic sets. $18,000 Darth Vader bronze statueDon’t we always have you covered on the latest Star Wars stuff? Does an ewok poop in the Forest of Endor? Yes and yes. I present to you a Darth Vader that’s been bronzed heavier then George Hamilton in the Bahamas. It’s the work of Lawrence Noble and will cost you $18,000. The limited edition weighs in at 4 feet tall and 150 lbs.

I don’t know what you would do with it aside from admiring it’s bronz-i-ness. I suppose you could kneel before it and profess your love of the dark side and ask your master what his bidding is for you on that day. I guess you could sit it across from a statue of the Virgin Mary and call the news when they both start to cry, then charge for admission. That’s what I would do. Lord Vader is available from the official Star Wars webshop.

R2 Fish School Training KitFor those who want to train their fish to do all kinds of un-fish-like stuff, check out this R2 Fish School Training Kit that’s got nothing to do with R2-D2. I’m guessing it’s for those who want to enter there fish in the fish Olympics. It was created by noted fish-training expert, Dr. Dean Pomerleau and the R2 Solutions team.

The kit employs basic marine mammal training techniques. Basically if you promise them food, they’ll do all kinds of tricks. Who knew? It’s like the whole What Would You Do For A Klondike Bar?, but with fish. Your little pets will learn how to limbo, slalom, fetch, play basketball, jump through hoops, and more. If the fish Olympics don’t exist yet, they will soon and I’ll be right there betting on guppies playing Basketball. At least until various steroids scandals hit. $39.95 gets you into the shady world of fish training.

Israeli students design batsuit for flight

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on September 9th, 2008

Israeli students design batsuit for flightSick and tired of waiting for Bruce Wayne to market one through Wayne Industries, students at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology have designed a winged flight-suit very similar to Batman’s outfit. The suit could allow humans dropped from airplanes to glide on their own just like the Dark Knight. First they estimated the size of the wings and tail needed for stability and how strong they would have to be to stand up to the drag forces they had calculated.

Interestingly, after wind tunnel tests, they discovered that flying in a “Superman” position would be impossible due to drag. Which really sucks because I had my blue pajamas all ready to go and the Superman position is really cool. It took about 100 trials, but they finally refined their original design into what they think is the perfect model and finally concluded that it would take a special kind of guy to use it. Either Batman himself or a super fit pilot who could comfortably wear the suit and use it to its fullest. It’s great news and all, but I’m bummed about the whole Superman thing.
