Cingular to Provide Downloadable Music

Posted in Digital Audio,Mobile Phones,News by Chetz on November 2nd, 2006

Cingular Provides Music Service to Mobile Phones Cingular is planning on rolling out a music service on its line of cell phones that support playing music. Cingular is teaming up with the already established music services of Napster, Yahoo Music and eMusic to provide a larger selection than similar services by competing phone companies, at hopefully a cheaper price.

In the last few years mobile phone service providers have been working feverishly to try to offset the lowering price for talking minutes by offering more and more additional services for fees, such as ring tones, wallpaper, themes, games and of course music. How well any of these additional services are really might be debatable, but the ability to download music and play it on mobile devices has no doubt been a hit, and Cingular is joining in.

The service provided by Napster is really a pretty cool …

eStarling Picture Frame

The eStarling 7 inch LCD digital picture frame allows you to rotate through different digital pictures on the frame, but that certainly is not what makes it special.

This picture frame is also WiFi enabled and picks up photos without wires from email, a Flickr RSS stream and from an external media card. This means that once you have set it up, it stands alone and gets new photos sent to it automatically.

The Starling picture frame itself can check email by configuring a POP3 email account along with user name and password. After that, just send an email to the address with a JPEG or GIF file and the picture frame will catch it and add it to the rotation.

You can also define a key word for your feed with Flickr and have it bring in a rotation of photos based on your …

Dell Notebook with AMD ProcessorDell has recently released notebooks with AMD processors in them instead of the Intel chips which ends the exclusive long-standing relationship Dell had with Intel. This exclusivity ended recently when AMD Processors were added to Dell servers, providing these computers with AMD processors.

Dells website currently features an Inspiron 1501 notebook which comes with a range of AMD processors, including the AMD Sempron, AMD Turion 64 and the AMD Turion 64 X2 series. At a price tag of not much over $500, this makes for a more affordable notebook for gift buyers in the coming holiday season.

This was somewhat of a quiet release for Dell, as we just noticed the AMD ad on the web site, with no big press release, parade or anything.

Posted in Hard Drives,Hitachi,News,Notebooks by Darrin Olson on November 1st, 2006

Hitachi Notebook DriveNot long after Seagate announced its disc level security encryption, Hitachi was right behind them unveiling new 2.5 inch notebook drives for 2007 that have greater capacities, require less power due to flash memory utilization, and have encryption security right on the disk.

The encryption, similar to what is being done with disk level encryption by Seagate, happens right on the disk which allows it to be “bound” with a device and helps avoid having data stolen or lost since it encrypted at the disk level and doesn’t need an application to implement it.

Hitachi is also increasing the total drive capacity on their notebook hard drives starting in 2007. The company will be coming out with increased capacities of 200GB and 250GB for the 2.5″ drives. By the end of 2007 Hitachi says they could be looking at creating notebook drives with …
