SIP
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a signaling protocol for Internet Telephony
that provides services such as call forwarding, number delivery, authentication,
audio/videoconferencing, interactive gaming, and other telecoms applications to
be deployed over IP networks. This enables service providers to integrate basic
IP telephony services with Web, e-mail, and chat services. The protocol can set
up, control and tear down sessions including internet telephone calls and multimedia
conferences.
