1seg

1seg is a digital audio, video and data broadcasting service used for mobile devices primarily in Japan. Service began in 2005 and was officially launched on April 1 of the next year. At first mobile phone handsets for 1seg were sold to consumers in late 2005.

Terrestrial digital broadcast in Japan (ISDB-T) is designed so that each channel is divided into 13 segments (plus one segment for separating channels). HDTV broadcast occupies 12 segments, and the remaining (13th) one segment is used for mobile receivers. Thus the name, ‘1seg’.

I understand that the US is going digital in 2009 but when can we (PSP community) will be able to enjoy this or does it bring extra software that is avaible through memory card placement as an EBOOT type like most homebrewed software out there
