Xbox 360 Dark Knight edition
And Dark Knight mania continues. If we aren’t spotting a DIY Tumbler or learning how Batman spends his nights, we are coming across some other Batman inspired Doodad.

In this case we’ve got an Xbox 360 under protective plastic with the Dark knight logo branded onto it. This is apparently a “limited edition” or one of a kind Dark Knight Xbox 360 shown off by Microsoft over in Taiwan. That’s about all we know. Zip,zero, zilch, nada. One can only drool and imagine batwing controllers.

Xbox 360 motion controller in action
After all of the rumors and waiting, we finally get to see the Xbox 360 motion controller in action. Motus, the company that’s supposedly developing the controller for the console has some new videos showing how the device will work with existing games.

It’s being called Darwin and is of course completely wireless and can be split in two depending on the game you’re playing, or if another player wants to join in. Check out the videos below. Maybe it’s just me, but it looks like there’s a bit of a delay in motion in the Lego Star Wars game.

Red & green limited edition Xbox 360 controllers

Red & green limited edition Xbox 360 controllers
Microsoft is dropping some limited edition green and red Xbox 360 controllers at the end of September, priced at $64 each. The red one comes with black accents and even comes with a bundled Play & Charge with red battery pack.

If red and green seem like odd color choices, I agree. Red and green says Christmas to me. I guess they would be an ideal pair for playing a Christmas Eve game of Halo with some holly adorning your controllers and a bunch of new games under the tree.

Xbox 360 to stream Netflix movies and add Mii’s

Xbox 360 to have Netflix movie streaming built inMicrosoft announced at E3 today that along with a complete UI update coming to the Xbox 360, they will also be offering streaming movies via Netflix through the game console and Xbox Live. We had heard Netflix express interest in this partnership earlier this year and Microsoft says it will come to fruition in “late fall”. The new feature will require users to be subscribers to Netflix and manage their queue from their computer much like they do now, but will add the ability to stream and view the movies through the Xbox 360 game console. To make this even better, any Xbox Live Gold subscribers will get the service for no additional charge.

Basically this means that owners of an Xbox 360 are getting a brand new interface and all the features of a Roku box (Netflix set-top box retailing for $100) for no additional charges, aside the Live subscription fee that any true Xbox fan is paying anyway.

Microsoft confirms 60GB Xbox 360 and 20GB price cut

Posted in Xbox 360 by Darrin Olson on July 13th, 2008

60GB Microsoft Xbox 360Microsoft has now confirmed a couple of rumors we had heard last week about a new 60GB Xbox 360 and a price cut for the 20GB model. Today the company made an official announcement of the release of a new Xbox 360 with a 60GB hard drive coming in early August to take advantage of the increasing number and size of games, video and music for the game console.

In the same announcement Microsoft announced that the 20GB Xbox 360 model is on its way out with a price drop to $299 while supplies last, which is $50 less than before. The Arcade version and the Elite will remain at $279 and $449 respectively.

Xbox 360 rumors flying; 60GB in, 20GB out and more

Xbox 360 rumors of new 60GB console coming, and 20GB console being phased outThe rumors are flying today about changes to the availability of hardware configurations for the Xbox 360. These rumors are due to a “leaked” company memo sent out to a few retailers making some statements and implications of changes to come.

For starters, we’ve seen fairly impressive evidence that the Xbox 360 Pro will see a price drop to $299 starting this Sunday. In addition, an email spells out some plans for later this year starting with an 60GB Xbox 360 Pro game console being introduced yet this month, and later on implying that the 20GB console will reach its “end of life” yet this year, likely replaced by this 60GB to accommodate more and bigger Xbox Live games.

It delivers full Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic II surround decoding, plus standard optical digital and analog stereo inputs, so you can connect to other AV sources. It will cost you $200 and it’s shipping now.

Xbox 360 price cut in Australia

Xbox 360 price cut in Australia
While those of us in the U.S. are still waiting patiently, Australia and New Zealand have discounted Xbox 360 pricing across the board. An update to the Aussie Xbox site shows a new starting price of $349 Australian dollars for the Xbox 360 Arcade (which sold for $399 yesterday). Interestingly, that makes it $50 cheaper than the Wii in Australia. They better secure their Kangaroos, stop wrestling with alligators and get to the store quick.

Xbox exec, Jeremy Hilton confirmed that the Xbox 360 Pro bundle has also been slashed. It’s now $499 (was $579) and the Elite is now $649 (was $729). You might think this bodes well for some price cuts here in the U.S. as well, but check out this qoute regarding their strange pricing strategy: “One of the big changes Microsoft has made is that with price drops, you’d see the US would drop, and pretty much within two weeks we would drop as well. Now, it’s very much the individual countries who manage what they feel would be best for their respective regions. In March we had a price drop in Europe, and in April we had a price drop in Asia. So we’re definitely moving away from that big global strategy.”

K-Mart circular leaks Xbox 360 price cut
A forum user on High-Def Digest posted a scan from next week’s K-Mart weekly circular ad and it shows a price drop of $50 on the Xbox 360 Premium. Yes, the $299 price you see still includes a 20GB hard drive.

The timing of this apparent price drop seems to sync up with whatever announcements Microsoft will have at E3. The rumors on that front include a price drop or a newer version with more storage. The scan makes no mention of price adjustments for the ‘Arcade’ or ‘Elite’ models, but we expect they will be adjusted.

Aftermarket Xbox 360 case, quiet, cool, & fat
Is your Xbox 360 too loud? Is it hot and just too compact for you? The Lian-Li PC-XB01 case mod will let you rest easy. The case is like a silencer for the disc drive thanks to sound-proofing foam. It also has great airflow to keep things chill via a 120mm fan or optional water cooling system.

And if you like a console that’s got some extra cushion for the button pushin’, this case is about four times the size of the 360. No pricing yet, but it should be available this August.

Portable Gaming Solutions will mod your Xbox 360 into a laptop
Let’s say you’re in love with Halo, but always on the go. There’s gotta be some way to get your game on. If only you had a convenient Xbox laptop. Ben Heck is probably to busy to make you one, but you may be in luck. For $550, a shop in Kansas called Portable Gaming Solutions says that they will convert your 360 into a suitcase-sized 15-inch laptop with keyboard and speakers.

It might be taking a chance sending your Xbox to him, but hey we all have to start somewhere. The web site has some images and videos of the mod, so it’s probably cool. We hope. Would anyone take the chance and send their console? I don’t know, but I wish him luck. It may not be the most stylish mod, but I guess it gets the job done. Check out the video below.

Xbox 360’s “avatars” aka Microsoft Miis
We first told you about Microsoft’s plans at Wii emulation back in April. Here’s some new info on their own version of Nintendo’s Miis. Xbox 360 Fanboy found the above Flash document on Intellisponse’s servers. (an online research and web-survey platform)

Is it just for survey purposes or not? I’m thinking it’s beyond the survey stage as it fits with what we’ve been hearing. That Microsoft will be rolling their Miis out by the end of the year, hopefully with their own Wii-mote that has all the bugs worked out.

She wants to know when she’s going to have grandchildren. Obviously girls will have to wait. You have a gig.

Make your Xbox 360 glow neon greenXbox 360 owners can now make their Xbox glow like depleted uranium, without setting off the geiger counter. In the light of day, the XCM Pearl Glow is translucent so you can see the insides. Turn out the lights and it glows a bright X-Files green.

It replaces the case entirely. You’ll think it’s the 80’s all over again and it will let you know where your console is at all times. If this is your thing and you can’t get enough glow in the dark toys, you can find one at Extreme Mods.

Microsoft to bring Xbox 360 kiosks to hospitals

Microsoft to bring Xbox 360 kiosks to hospitals
Recently Microsoft announced a new partnership with the non-profit organization Companions in Courage, an organization dedicated to supporting families with children who are dealing with life-threatening medical conditions. As partners, Microsoft will be supplying hundreds of single Xbox 360 kiosks to children’s hospitals across the nation.

Some have already been installed at the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian, the Children’s Hospital & Regional Medical Center of Seattle and the Children’s Hospital of Orange County, California. The kiosks won’t just feature games, but TV shows and movies as well, plus they’ll be connected to each other with a special version of the Xbox LIVE network. That will allow kids from one hospital to interact and play games with kids from another. If you like, you can be a part of the project too. Help bring more 360 kiosks to other hospitals by visiting the Companions in Courage website at http://cic16.org and making a donation. It’s a great way to help these kids out.
