The latest Wii nonsense happening in the World has nothing to do with Wii-tards shattering TVs, or boyfriends recording their hot girlfriends getting fit. No, the latest Wii news is happening in Britain where The Sun is reporting that 10 Wii users per week in the UK are being hospitalized.

According to Doctors, patients are reporting excruciating pain in their shoulders and knees. They are calling the phenomenon Wii-itus and Wii-Knee, supposedly caused by making sudden movements in the tennis game and in Wii-Fit. But more likely, these are probably just out of shape gamers who are not used to moving. According to Doctors, some potential problems later in life for Wii-itus sufferers include rheumatism, arthritis, inflammation of the shoulder or wrist and a desire to play a different console. Any console that will allow them to lay in bed with a good cheeseburger.

Ever wish you could paint like Jackson Pollock after he’d had a few too many beers? Now you can, and you won’t need to drip and splatter with a paintbrush. You can use your Wiimote instead, thanks to the DraWiing Jackson Pollock project.

It uses an IR detector, a projector on the floor and a Wiimote to recreate the drip-and-splatter artwork of the famous hard-drinking abstract painter. It looks pretty fun. ITP students Si Heun Cho and Ruxy Staicut created the set-up. It takes IR and accelerometer data from a wiimote to plot a point in relation to your canvas on the floor, projecting a nice paint splatter trail. Just like Pollock.

It’s been awhile since we saw a really cool Wii case mod, though we did bring you 14 neat mods some time ago. This custom Star Wars case mod is pretty awesome and you can learn to make one too. Just be warned that the creator invested over 100 hours of work.

It includes lots of LEDs and fiber optics to give it some nice glowing effects. If you’d rather buy one and not put in the time, you can find this gem on ebay for $499.99. It features stars that fade in and out, custom Red Light Bar, and a hand Painted Death Star, X-Wing and Darth Vader’s Tie-Fighter. Pretty sweet.

Chocolate and Peanut butter, peanut butter and jelly, hemp and video games. Some things just go together. Modder DHRECK has moded the first ever WiiMote ensconced in hemp twine. It’s fully functional and covered all the way from the tip of the Nun-chuck all the way to the sensor on the WiiMote.

Stoners and hippies now have a new folk hero in DHRECK and are wondering how to give it a slow burn for intense gaming highs. Naturally, you have to wonder about the response of buttons and the stick, but if you’re using this thing, chances are you are more interested in your bong water levels then your game score.

Some mods don’t make a whole lot of sense. Why tear out the innards of your Wii, just to put an N64 inside? An SNES in a Wii would still be questionable, but at least that’s an SNES. This inbred Nintendo creation is dubbed the “Wii64″, and keeps the Wii’s blue lights lighting up whenever it is turned on. The Wii64 is currently on eBay, where bidding began with $49.99. It’s somehow up to $64. What we need are more console guitars.

With both Wii fit and Wii Sports being hits, expectations are high for EA Sports Active. EA Sports Active is a family game but specifically targets women who want to stay fit while having fun. The title will be the first in a new line of EA SPORTS fitness and sports products in development. The game targets both the upper and lower body plus some cardio.

It’s meant for two players and will give you motivation with real-time feedback on your workout. Stuff like calories burned. You can of course modify the intensity levels to suit your own skills. EA Sports Active comes with two leg straps that hold the Wii’s Nunchuk controller to track lower body movement and a resistance band for upper body strength training exercises. The game will be available in Spring 2009 for about $59.99.

The modders over at Acid Mods can’t help but defile all of their Wiimotes. Despite the fact that that sounds just plain wrong, the results are pretty cool. The rapid fire switch was cool and brought back memories of the Turbo Advance.

Now they’ve modded a trackball into a Wiimote, which also functions as D-pad and A button. This is pretty useful as it puts both under your thumb at the same time and should make web browsing interesting. Soon there will be an order page and instructions for adding the trackball to other controllers, like a PSP, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360 and PS3. Now we just have to get Missile Command and Centipede on the Wii and we’ll be set.

Here’s an interesting way to kill an afternoon. Apparently a couple of guys hooked up two Wii Fit balance boards to LEGO Mindstorms…something, and made them move in sync with leaning and jumping motions. While I don’t think this game is going to get you fit, it’s a clever hack. Maybe Nintendo can change the Lego things into battle bots and market the whole deal as some sort of Ultimate robot fighter game for the those who don’t mind obesity all that much. Hacking Wii-Fit isn’t new, but this one puts a whole new spin on things.

Here’s a pretty simple Wiimote hack that will take you back in time and get you all nostalgic for those days when the NES Advantage gave you “turbo” fire while playing the classics. Is it cheating? We don’t care. It was awesome and many games fell to the magic of turbo-firing. The hack even makes your Wiimote look cool with a new LED light, but mostly you’ll have rapid fire on virtually every wii game.

These Wii dogs win any costume contest hands paws down. Now I have a burning desire to see a Wiener dog as a Wiimote. While the dogs look thoroughly humiliated, this sort of thing pleases humans. How about a cat connected to the Wiimote dog, acting as a Nunchuk? Just awesome. Truly awesome. They even went so far as to recreate the wrist strap. I just hope the creator got them out of costume before they made Wii-wee.

Nintendo has come up with a solution to the number one issue that Wii gamers face. Storage. And yes the solution is obvious. During the Japan fall press conference they announced that in the spring of 2009, gamers can expect the ability to load and play software directly from an SD card in your SD slot, as well as download items directly to the SD card. There’s a 2GB maximum, so you’ll want to stock up on 2GB SD cards. I guess it’s better then another peripheral to clutter up our lives.

Cue 2001 theme, but think “2011: The Year Wii Makes Contact”. 2011 is three years from now. So you would expect a new Wii by then right? HD would be nice on a new console. Word is that they are showing off a Wii-HD to developers and publishers, who’ve nicknamed it “Wii HD”. Reportedly, the followup will stick with all of the motion control goodness and amp up graphics, digital distribution, local storage and even be backwards compatible.

The only hard evidence was cited by What They Play, and that is the fact that Nintendo’s R&D spending has grown greatly since the Wii’s launch. I don’t see that that makes the case for a new Wii by itself, but it’s not a stretch as they are surely looking toward the future of the Wii. Many of us would like to see some improvements now rather then later. Like storage for instance.

Thrustmaster is getting in on the fake lightsaber game too with these Glow Sabers, which may arguably be the best take on the Wii lightsaber yet with their attention to detail. They actually resemble Jedi instruments of death.

The red and blue dueling Glow Sabers each have 17 LEDs and the Dual Trigger Gun comes complete with a Nunchuck holster. The Glow Saber 2-pack can be had right about now for $34.99, while the Dual Trigger Gun will be available shortly for $17.99. Pretty sweet deal.

I hear ya. The Wii and DS already have Wi-Fi. True, but this device is a Wi-Fi router/bridge for those who don’t have wireless networks. Even when you do have a wireless network, it can be a pain to get your Wii set up depending on your provider. The device will be available in Japan on September 18th for $53.

Obviously it resembles one of those Wii knockoff jobs from China, but it’s the real deal. The adapter has a switch for three modes on back: “Router”, “Bridge” and “Auto”. “Router” is self-explanatory, while “Bridge” connects to another router and then communicates with the Nintendo DS and Wii. “Auto” will switch the household’s network over automatically.
