Lego Wiimote surfaces

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on October 13th, 2010

Lego fans will want to dust off their Wii and check out the official Lego Play and Build Remote for Nintendo Wii. Alas, the entire thing is not made of Legos, If it were, it wouldn’t be compatible with standard chargers and attachments. But it’s still pretty neat.

It will put you in the game more when playing those Lego Batman and Star Wars titles. These will be available on October 16th for $39.99.

W!! External Hard Drive Casing looks like a Nintendo Wii

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on October 12th, 2010

Is that a Wii? The packaging would lead you to believe that it is, but actually it’s a W!!. A hard drive enclosure that looks like a miniature black Wii. Get it? W!!? Very clever. It will house a 2.5-inch SATA hard drive and offers a USB 2.0 connection that you can connect to your PC or Mac.

As an added bonus, the package includes some tiny Wiimote-like key chains that are also whistles. Umm. Okay. It’ll cost you $9.70, which isn’t bad for a fake Wii that will hold your hard drive.

Wii Remote Plus is official

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on September 29th, 2010

Nintendo has been pretty slow out of the gate since the Wii debuted in one way or another. Now Nintendo is releasing something that should have been released at least a year ago. The Wii Remote Plus.

Nintendo today revealed the new controller which combines the original Wii Remote and its add-on, Wii MotionPlus, in the same controller.

Wii Remote Plus leaked in FlingSmash bundle?

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on September 24th, 2010

We’ve been waiting for a Wiimote with built-in MotionPlus for a while. Nyko already offers the Wand+ with the MotionPlus gyros built-in. But Nintendo has been taking the slow approach. Now we have spotted this upcoming first party, MotionPlus-required FlingSmash title on a GameStop order page with “Wii Remote Plus inside!”.

However, the product description still mentions attaching the MotionPlus “accessory” to your Wii Remote, but the Wiimote in the picture looks a bit different, with some curved text below the Wii logo. A spokesperson said the Wii Remote Plus “is real” but “We have nothing to announce on this at the moment.”.

Wii getting a tablet peripheral

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on August 17th, 2010

That’s right, everyone is so tablet crazy that even the Wii is getting a tablet. And it’s not even from Nintendo, but game publisher THQ. THQ will be launching the $70 uDraw Game Tablet aimed at 6-to-12-year-olds. It measures 9 inches wide and 7 inches wide, making it about the same size as a Nintendo Wii.

The tablet comes with uDraw software. Pictionary and Dood’s Big Adventure are sold separately, each priced at $29.99. To use the tablet, players connect the uDraw Game Tablet to a Wii controller. Then a stylus lets gamers draw pictures and play games.

Nintendo Wii hits 30M sales milestone

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on August 10th, 2010

Nintendo must be pretty happy with the news that the Wii video game console has now sold 30 million units in the US alone. That figure was achieved in just 45 months, making it the fastest-selling console in the history of the industry. Wow.

It also hit the milestone 15 months faster than the next best-selling console. Obviously this is due to the Wii’s innovative gaming experience, even if some consoles do end up collecting dust after a few months when the novelty wears off.

Blu-ray equipped Wii 2 coming next year?

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on August 10th, 2010

Word on the street is that the next version of the Nintendo Wii will be hitting the market next year with both an HD output and a Blu-ray drive. That Might help it catch up to the Sony PS3, but Nintendo is still very behind.

Take this with a grain of salt since it’s just a rumor for now. HD on the Wii is certainly welcome, but we’re not too convinced on the Blu-ray part.

Arctic Gym, your Wii Fit alternative

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on August 1st, 2010

The ARCTIC GYM is for people without a Wii who still want to workout at home with interactive peripherals. The Arctic Gym includes an interactive exercise mat that allows you to keep fit, lose weight and burn calories. This video game system detects your movements and measures your performance and fitness progress.

The mat is basically thirty pressure sensitive pads with sensors detecting feet and body positions. When the system recognizes your movements, it is translated on-screen, so it can track and display real-time movements.

Next Wii may not be 3D

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on July 16th, 2010

With everyone going crazy for 3D, it’s nice to hear that Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto believes that the company’s next console won’t be a 3D gaming console, despite the upcoming portable 3DS.

He believes that there aren’t enough people with 3D TVs in their home, so it doesn’t really make sense. We can’t argue with that. He also stated that we shouldn’t expect a successor to the Wii anytime soon. It’s still some way off.

Will the next Wii be 3D?

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on June 17th, 2010

3D is everywhere, flaunting it’s 3 dimensions in our faces. We now have the details regarding Nintendo’s 3DS and now it looks like Nintendo may be planning another 3D gaming system. The next Nintendo Wii may offer 3D support.

Nintendo’s president, Satoru Iwata told a Japanese newspaper that they were definitely looking into other 3D products aside from the Nintendo 3DS. Here’s what he had to say:

NHL Slapshot comes with Wayne Gretzky approved Wiimote hockey stick

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on June 1st, 2010

Hard to believe a Hockey game hasn’t come bundled with a Wiimote hockey stick until now. This one is even endorsed by Hockey legend Wayne Gretzky himself. The game is EA’s upcoming NHL Slapshot, which comes with the small hockey stick shown above.

The stick holds both the Wiimote and nunchuck and has a foam blade that your TV will thank you for. I almost laughed when I read that Gretzky says that the stick is “very realistic” and “almost like playing in the NHL”. His drive to make money is also very realistic, and almost like playing in the NHL.

Konnet PowerV Duo charges 2 Wiimotes and 2 USB Devices

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on May 26th, 2010

If you do a lot of gaming with your Wii, you need an induction charger for your Wiimotes. It’s even better if that charger can charge your Wiimotes and two USB devices at the same time. For $35, the Konnet PowerV Duo does just that.

It works using two silicone jackets that slip onto your WiiMotes, and two USB ports can charge phones, MP3 players, and even your Nintendo DS with the included connectors. That should be pretty convenient.

Wii2HDMI converts your Wii’s output to HDMI

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on May 25th, 2010

It stinks that the Wii is only 480p. What can you do? Well, it turns out that now you can buy this converter, which promises to solve the problem. Wii2HDMI converts your Wii’s output to HDMI. The Wii2HDMI is compact and won’t clutter up your gaming area.

It’s only $39.95. There’s a slight problem though. The Wii itself is only capable of a max output of 480p. You could just as easily use a component cable. This does work with a DVI monitor though.

Nintendo Wiimote RVL-036 clears the FCC

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on May 20th, 2010

Anyone would look at that image and instantly recognize it as a Wiimote. The Bluetooth device just passed through the FCC with flying colors courtesy of Foxconn. Not much detail, but there’s the new RVL-036 model number.

We don’t know what makes it so special, but we hope they’ve finally integrated the MotionPlus add-on into the controller. It would be nice if they made the design easier on the wrist too, but that’s just wishful thinking on our part.
