Strange robot-bird webcam

Strange robot-bird webcam

This might be the oddest webcam I’ve seen yet. It appears to be a hybrid of bird and robot. Apparently Chickens of the future are none too happy about being a staple of our diet and have therefore merged with machine. Strangely I like it, as it has a kind of Flash Gordon retro look.

The silver-colored cam is made of plastic and measures 65 x 65 x 145 mm. There isn’t much information available about yet, but he looks very affordable. If you have some sort of rare robot animal collection, he should fit in very well.

cute and functional

Personally I love all things robot. When I saw this little guy, I knew that my life was not yet complete somehow. He has a great, ultra-cute design and would definitely add some coolness to your computer area as well as making the life of a blog writer a little less lonely. I think he and I could be good friends.

He has 350k pixels, which means his maximum resolution is 640×480. The LED eyes actually illuminate at night, plus he has a microphone so you can speak to others while video-conferencing. The mic is an essential element here, after all I will be telling people how cool my little robot buddy is. So what if they get creeped out. It’s just me and my BFF robot.

Under the USB sea

Lili and Oscar USB hub and webcamThere are two classifications of cute gadgets: the “Awwwww!” group and the “It’s Hello Kitty so it must be destroyed” group. We feel that United Pepper’s Lili and Oscar fall into the first category and so they should be allowed a place into our homes and hearts (but we will keep the flamethrower close by in case something Hello Kitty should surface.) Awwwww!

Lili is the five-legged octopus lass and Oscar is the starfish-shaped guy. Explained in practical terms, the deep sea dame is a funky designed 1.3-megapixel webcam with microphone while the male marine invertebrate is a four-port USB 2.0 hub (of similar funkyness.) They are both made from environmentally friendly materials such as cotton and sand and both of their bodies are constructed from Kapok, a tree fiber that is to the tropics what cotton is to America’s south.

microsoft-lifecam.jpgMicrosoft is out today with some new Web cams which are tied into an online feature which lets consumers share digital photos with friends and family and see their reactions in real time. One of these cameras is the LifeCam VX-7000, available this month for around $100.

The Microsoft LifeCam VX-7000 makes use of a feature called Photo Swap, which lets users share digital photos live during a video conversation. This joins other online features this LifeCam and others use, such as one-touch video calls and a simple on-screen control. Hardware features of the VX-7000 include a slim and glossy design, 2.0-megapixel sensor, unidirectional microphone and 71-degree, wide angle lens.

Envision V-CamWeb cams definitely seem to be a dime a dozen these days. Here’s another one you can throw onto the pile - the new Envision Peripherals V-Cam, priced at around $50 and available now.

The Envision V-Cam is described as a state of the art Web cam for those on a budget. It can do 1.3-megapixel video capture and 4-megapixel digital image shots. It has a five-glass lens and comes with auto face detection and “smart tracking.”

cliquecam.jpgClique Communications thinks you might want to have a little fun with your Web cam besides prancing in front of it like an idiot. To that end the company is now making available the colorful, flexible CliqueCam.

The CliqueCam, which retails for around $100, comes in six colors. It has a goose neck design which allows you to position it in ways which some might find unsavory. You can also detach it from its base to take it with you. Power is supplied through USB and Clique claims this device can deliver “HD-like 1024×768 video at 30fps.”

Big Foot USB Webcam

Big foot USB WebcamThis Big Foot webcam is not just another pretty shaped USB device, but actually leverages its unique design in a functional way.

This sits on your desk with an adjustable stand and has a low-quality VGA camera, which can be focused and used for still shots or video conferencing, in the middle of the “foot”. (There appears to be a button in the cord to take snap shots.) The big toe of the foot houses a microphone which connects through a separate jack and the other 4 toes have LED lights to brighten up your target. The Big Foot USB Camera retails for $22. What more could you want?

Creative Live! Cam Optia AF

Posted in Creative, Webcams by Nino Marchetti on May 24th, 2007

Creative Live! Cam Optia AF webcamCreative is busting out a new Web cam which looks pretty cool and offers a number of innovative features to give it more than just a pretty face. The Creative Live! Cam Optia AF should be available now for around $130 at various retail outlets.

The Creative Live! Cam Optia AF’s most interesting features are its auto-focusing technology and plug and play functionality. The auto-focusing part of the Optia AF picks the best setting for the image in its 2.0-megapixel sensor, with a special emphasis on keeping your face in sharper focus.

The plug and play component, according to Creative, lets you connect the Web cam to a computer’s USB port without needing to install a driver. The Optia AF has a multi-axis swivel which can rotate at a viewing angle of up to 270 degrees and also an embedded sensor to keep …

Eyes in the Dark

Night Vision WebcamIf you can’t see the other person in your web cam browser image normally we would suggest that they turn on some lights but for those that crave stealth or live in the Batcave we recommend the Night Vision Web Cam from A4-Tech.

Priced at $52, six infrared LEDs convert the 1.3 megapixel shot into an image that looks like it came from someone that didn’t forget to pay their electric bill. The makers claim that their cam can adjust the color levels of the dark image into one that presents the accurate colors if the image was taken at normal illumination levels.

Extra goodies include a digital zoom function, snapshot, instant still image capture, motion tracking, automatic white balance and a no distortion promise. Also, there’s a built-in microphone and it comes with a clip so you can mount it to your laptop or …

SCIRC t1 Remote Solar Powered Webcam

Solar Powered Webcam SCIRC t1There are probably a number of places that would be available to view via webcam if only it didn’t need a computer and power in close proximity. DigitalXTractions has a solution to this problem by offering a webcam that runs on solar power and sends it’s images directly to an internet site through wireless phone lines.

The webcam has a 1.3 megapixel sensor that can capture either video or still pictures and send them to a site to be viewed through a wireless GPRS/EDGE cellular modem.

The actual camera is 7×4x3 inches and weighs about 5 pounds so it might not be real easy to hide, if that is your plan. Also, there is a solar power option (additional cost) and a back up batter that can take up some additional room wherever you mount it.

The real cool part about this solar webcam …

USB Flash Drive with WebCam

Posted in Digital Imaging, Flash Memory, Webcams by Chetz on December 21st, 2006

Volvox USB Flash Drive With WebCamThe Korean company Sydnt has added a new flash drive to their Volvox product line. The Volvox USB webcam looks and acts like a USB flash drive, and comes in capacities of 512MB, 1Gb and 2GB.

There is one added feature that makes this flash drive unique; it also acts as a webcam that is able to take 1.3 Megapixel photos at a rate of 30 frames per second. It appears to have a flexible stiff cable that works as a USB extension and a stand so you can position your webcam however you would like.

There aren’t too many specs out about this camera flash drive, but it really looks like a pretty cool gadget. If it turns out to be something around $20 and I have $20 I will think about picking one up.

Microsoft LifeCam NX-6000

Posted in Digital Video, Microsoft, Webcams by Chetz on November 6th, 2006

Microsoft LifeCam NX-6000A webcam designed specifically for notebook computers was the intent with Microsoft’s LifeCam NX-6000.

The design of the NX-6000 webcam let’s it fit nicely on top of the notebook lid, needing no special attachments or stands so it is easy to bring along and easy to attach. A microphone is also built in so that a separate device or connection is not needed.

The LifeCam has a high definition 7.6 megapixel camera for still photos, and can record high def video at 2.0 megapixels for a 1600×1190 pixel picture. The camera also has 3x digital zoom for pictures and video to allow you to be up close and personal with the person on the other end, and the 71 degree wide angle lens let’s the whole family fit in the picture at once.

Being a Microsoft product, it only makes sense that the LifeCam NX-6000 integrates …
