Waterproof MP4 Video Player

Posted in Media Players,Waterproof by Reuben Drake on July 30th, 2007

Waterproof MP4 video playerWe’ve seen a number of waterproof MP3 players come across our desks but a waterproof video player has been a little harder to come by. Chinavasion now has a Waterproof MP4 player (for lack of a better name) on the way that allows you to watch your videos in the tub, pool, lake or any other body of water you would like and keeps the video playing up to 3 meters under.

The LCD is a little on the small side at 1.8″ with a resolution of only 128×128. But in an effort to keep our glass half-full, the modest 1GB of memory can probably hold a decent amount of video at this resolution. Not only can you watch underwater but the Waterproof video player also comes with waterproof earphones to listen, too.

It also comes packaged with an armband and neckstrap, and …

Cyberman shower radio from Dr. Who has AM and FMAny real Dr. Who fan would have trouble passing up the chance to have this Cyberman shower radio’s cold stare with you each morning. The head picks up AM and FM signals and has a pretty blue glow in its mouth when tuning in stations. The eyes will even light up when switching between AM and FM, and it sports some control knobs that are well-hidden into the design of the replica.

The Cyberman Shower Radio runs on 3 AAA batteries and can grace your bath for about $37.

Underwater Tunage

dolphin_mp3playerIf you’re really a hardcore music listener or someone that spends a lot of their time getting wet how does a waterproof MP3 player sound? Century’s N0-73262 Dolphin straps to the side of your head (on your goggles) or to your arm (the option is for swimmers that don’t want to throw their MP3 player in and out of the water.)

It measures 60 x 21 x 21 mm and has 2 GB of memory, enough different music choices (WMA, MP3 format support) to keep you in the wet stuff until your skin resemble a prune. The Dolphin also comes with four pairs of waterproof ear plugs, a waterproof earphone, USB cable and armband. It’s on sale in Japan for about $160 US.

Now you’ll have something to listen to on the swim back home, right?

Waterproof Playing Cards

Waterproof playing cardsI’ve gone through a number of decks of playing cards because they are often so easily ruined by an ever so small amount of beer that inevitably gets spilled on them. Even the nicely laminated ones can only stand up to sitting in a shallow puddle of booze for a minute or two. Because of this these waterproof cards from H2O were a welcome site. Great for use at the beach, on a boat or at the pool. They might not have the greatest feel for shuffling or dealing, but at least they’ll last more than one night of my friends. They even come in a protective translucent case in colors of blue, green, red or clear for $7 each.

Freestyle MP3 Player – Waterproof, Shockproof

Freestyle MP3 player from Freestyle Audio is waterproof and shockproof for extreme sport useFreestyle Audio has made one super tough MP3 player that’s built to handle just about any extreme activities you can dish out. They show examples of using it while surfing, swimming and they have a video below showing it being dropped off of a 3rd story building onto concrete (they drop and iPod nano as well). The results of the video shows the Freestyle MP3 player turn on, but it really doesn’t say if it still plays music. Either way the fact that it didn’t break apart and still powered up is impressive.

Features of the Freestyle MP3 player are nothing spectacular – On/Off, Volume and skip ahead songs in the loaded media. It has associated software for managing music and works with a Mac and a PC. The DMP comes is capacities of …

JVC Victor XA-AW33 digital audio player floats in waterFor those times when you want to lounge in a nice hot bath but don’t want to reach all the way up to flick on your iPod shower speaker unit, take a look at this floater.

This is the Victor XA-AW33 from JVC, a digital audio player (DAP) that floats serenely around you in your tub as you rest and relax. The XA, or as JVC has christened it, the “healing player”, has 256 MB of memory and a SD port and weighs just 260 grams so it won’t displace much water.

iPod Shower Docking Station

Posted in Digital Audio,iPod,Shower,Waterproof by Chetz on January 6th, 2007

Shower iPod DockThis is yet another iPod accessory that could really work with any MP3 player, but has been branded, colored and pictured with an iPod to latch on to the Apple gravy train. Nevertheless, this is a nice looking little waterproof stereo that lets you play your tunes and sing along to your own songs in the shower.

The music output is really the only integration this iPod shower dock has to the iPod player, or any MP3 player for that matter. The clear dome opens to allow the safe keeping of the player without getting wet. The Shower iPod / MP3 player lets users adjust the volume, radio stations and a digital clock, but does not provide control of the iPod through the Shower dock as we had hoped.

It’s still not a bad way to bring your favorite tunes into the shower, though. …
