Tokyoflash releases some FireHere’s the latest from Tokyoflash, who aims to start a fire on your wrist. This one is designed vertically with Yellow LEDs that will tell you the hours, red LEDs indicate groups of 10 minutes and the green LEDs indicate single minutes. As always, hard to read for some, but very stylish and futuristic. It features an adjustable strap and they claim that it’s so comfortable you barely know it’s on your wrist. You can get yours for a limited time only launch price of about $130.

Leonardo da Vinci’s Backwards watch

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on November 10th, 2008

Leonardo da Vinci’s Backwards watchYou don’t see a watch that features the mug of Leonardo da Vinci everyday. It’s inspired by his backwards writing or “mirror writing”, which some believe to be a code. Others think he was just punking people in the future. The more likely reason is that Leonardo was left handed and preferred to pull a pen as opposed to pushing it across the page in order to prevent the ink from smudging.

And just like the writing in his notebooks, this watch does everything backwards. The numbers on the faceplate are written and listed backwards, and the hour and minute hands move counter-clockwise as well. That should make it a real pain to tell what time it is. The price is $36. That’s not $63 backwards.

LED watch has no face, lots of style

LED watch has no faceHere’s an LED watch that is both simple and stylish, designed by Hiranao Tsuboi. The entire thing looks like a watch band itself, with no face. That’s because the watch face is built right into the band with LED. The numbers light up around the segments of the band, making for a cool and streamlined watch that’s simply a circle. My guess is that we’ll be seeing more of this design in the near future.

$1,000 Sudoku watch only has one level

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on November 2nd, 2008

$1,000 Sudoku watch only has one levelI’ll be honest, I don’t understand the whole Sudoku craze. But this beautiful watch based on the game has a great look. It’s a shame it costs a fortune and only gives you a single level. The outlandishly priced watch commemorates one Leonard Euler, the Swiss mathematician whose Latin Squares inspired the game of Sudoku. It will cost you $995 and comes in a game box.

Tokyoflash Jackpot watch

Tokyoflash Jackpot watchWe all love Tokyoflash watches. They are the cutting edge of style and innovation. It gets even better when they put a game of chance on your wrist. The Tokyoflash Jackpot Watch is a stylish timepiece that allows you to spin the numbers like a slot machine.

You just need to press the button and set your bet amount, then hit another button to spin the digits. Hey, if you’ve got a gambling problem this may keep you out of the casinos. The Tokyoflash Jackpot Watch retails for $100 and sadly does not shower your wrist with tiny coins when you win. Can we get somebody working on that?

Oracle watch is confusing, looks cool

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on October 23rd, 2008

Oracle watch is confusing, looks coolThe Oracle Watch is a pretty slick looking digital watch. It mixes the ancient art of telling time with the ancient Chinese philosophy of I Ching. Though I think the maker was thinking more about the ancient art of “Ka-ching I got your money”. How it works, I have no idea. It’s all pretty confusing. I think the basic idea is that it’s a fancy Magic 8-Ball for your wrist. It will guide you and share it’s wisdom, secure in the knowledge that they got your money. Still, it’s a pretty sweet looking watch.

$19K pen with watch parts that don’t work

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on October 22nd, 2008

$19K pen with watch parts that don’t workBehold. Now you know what A-hole bankers use to sign checks back and forth to each other. It’s called the 1010, a limited edition 18k gold pen from Swiss company Caran d’Ache. The idea is that this piece is to “celebrate the special genius of watchmakers.” It gets the 1010 name because of the look of a watch’s hands at that time of day or night. This expensive and ludicrously fancy update to the feathered quill pen doesn’t even have working gears. Those gears are all non-working, making this an expensive ruse with another ruse.

Some other allusions to timepieces include the clip that looks like a watch hand, the decorative balance wheel mounted between two rubies under a sapphire dome, and then there’s the tiny tick marks etched around its barrel. It even has a ruby-studded piston pump to move the ink from its interior to its nib. That’s right I said nib.

MK V Shutter watch

MK V Shutter watchHere’s a simple and yet interesting watch. This MK V watch from Storm London incorporates a working metal shutter that hides and reveals the face. They should have done this with a James Bond watch since it’s how the movies open. Pretty cool, though it might get old having to click a button to see what time it is, but then again when a pretty girl asks for the time, imagine the impression you’ll make. It’s available in black, slate or rose gold finish with a rubber strap and stainless steel case for $171 to $188.

Auguste Reymond Braille Hi-Touch watch for the blindAuguste Reymond has a brand new Classic quartz watch in the Braille Hi-Touch. You wouldn’t know it at first glance, but it’s designed especially for the blind, allowing the visually impaired to read the time with their fingertips via raised hour-markers and special hands. A hinge at 10 o’clock gives easy access to the dial. And it also happens to look good for those who are seeing it from afar. No word yet on pricing and availability.

Swatch 007 Villain collection watches

Swatch 007 Villain collection watchesThere’s good news and there’s bad news. The bad news is that these watches haven’t been in Q’s workshop and outfitted with weapons. The good news is that these 007 Villain watches from Swatch look pretty damn cool. Perfect for any villain looking to cause mayhem on a global scale.

You can get 19 different watches from the collection, all based on classic Bond movies like Quantum Of Solace, The Spy Who Loved Me, Live And Let Die, A View To A Kill, Goldfinger and Casino Royale and others. They cost anywhere from $60 to $235. I guess you can always have weapons and gadgets put in after you purchase them. You might as well take over the world in style. Meanwhile the villains from Austin Powers get no respect. Where are their watches?

Jules Verne called, he wants his watch back

Jules Verne called, he wants his watch backIf you love Steampunk, then you’ll love Haruo Suekichi’s creations. He’s has lost count on just how many pieces he has created, but an estimate is around 6000-7000. They are made primarily with brass and leather and each is unique. They go well with bowler hats and canes, handlebar mustaches, and frilly shirts. If Haruo Suekichi lived during Jules Verne’s time, he would have made watches for him. Haruo Suekichi has been at it for 13 years and now he’s showing an interest in creating antique fountain pens to go with the rest of your Victorian theme.

Sony Ericsson MBW-200

Sony Ericsson launched this week its first collection of Bluetooth watches for women. Looking not geeky at all, you’ll find the MBW-200 range of watches available in select global markets by the end of the year.

The MBW-200 watches offer what Sony Ericsson describes as “three different sophisticated designs to match your personality.” They were designed in conjunction with Fossil and are labeled the Sparkling Allure, Contemporary Elegance and Evening Classic Editions.

Whizzwatch: Control R2-D2 with your watch

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on September 22nd, 2008

Whizzwatch: Control R2-D2 with your watchThe R2-D2 Whizzwatch while not heavy on style, lets you control a miniature version of R2-D2 with a special wristwatch IR transmitter. R2 is attached to it’s strap. Just unclip the little droid, put him on your desk and watch him go. The watch supposedly has a variety of digital readouts, and you can switch between 12/24 hour displays. It costs about $36. My concern with this watch would be running into some dude with a Jawa watch. If the two should fight, your little droid might end up in a Jawa sandcrawler.

Tokyoflash’s negative watch accentuates the positive

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on September 16th, 2008

Tokyoflash’s negative watch accentuates the positiveDespite the name Tokyoflash’s Negative watch is amazing as usual and for once it’s a breeze to read the time. The watch features a reverse LCD display which lets you view the time without pressing any buttons. The Negative watch gets its name from its “always-on” inverse LCD display which uses oversize black dot-matrix pixels to reveal the time, day or date.

Another feature is a multi-color LED backlight, which lets you sort between one of seven different colors. If you wanted to, you could have a new color every day. In “frenzy” mode the display will put on a little rave party with a colored light show. If that isn’t enough for you, you can choose from horizontal or vertical display orientations, and youll also get a built-in alarm. Comes in polished silver and polished black stainless steel and retails for about $162.
