13 in 1 Multi Tool Pen has MacGuyver written all over it
We’ve seen our share of multi-tools, but I don’t think we’ve ever seen a multi tool pen before. My guess is that this would be MacGuyver’s pen of choice. It’s got so many useful tools inside, it will definitely get you out of a jam and help you build a plane out of duct tape and porn mags.

Tools include a Ballpoint Pen, Hole Puncher, Stainless Steel File, Short Cutting Blade, Flat Screwdriver, Wire Sleeve Remover/Small Nail Remover, Ear Pick(wtf), Long Cutting Blade, Tweezer, Philips Screwdriver, Stainless Steel Fork and Saw. It’s worth a shot at only $14.95. You never know when you’re going to need a pen AND a fork at the same time. And there’s always the rare occasion when you need both and an ear pick.

Cordless electric chain saw on a stick

Cordless electric chain saw on a stickBig and bulky electric chainsaws may be good for lumberjacks and serial killers, but what about the average guy who just wants to trim some branches that are fourteen feet up? It’s a situation we find ourselves in all too often. If only I had a cordless chainsaw on a long stick.

In fact, who needs ladders at all when you have a chainsaw on stick? The Black & Decker 18-Volt Cordless Electric Pole Chain Saw can reach up to 14 feet and cuts branches six inches in diameter. It weighs in at 7.6 pounds. Does this mean that all of the chainsaw wielding maniac movies will have to be redone. I mean now they can kill from a distance. You can get one for $120.

Most expensive Leatherman ever costs $40,000
Normally if you are a DIY kind of guy, you would just whip out your Leatherman or other similarly priced multi-tool. But if you want to fix things in style, while worrying about breaking a $40,000 tool this Leatherman is for you.

It’s more for say, the handyman in charge of a palace, or the rapper who has absolutely run out of bling options. Leatherman’s 25th annivesary Argentum collection is all about looks, but they still are fully functional. The collection ranges from the $12,000 Acanto to the $40,000 Dorado, and are the work of artist Adrian Pollarols.

Lil’ Guppie multitool, versatile as any big fish

Lil’ Guppie multitool, versatile as any big fish
Seems like the new generation of multi-tools have some odd designs. Much like the Spyderco Byrdwrench, the Lil’ Guppie (doesn’t that sound like what the skipper would call Gilligan in an underwater Gilligan’s Island show?) has an odd look.

The Lil’ Guppie is tiny enough to fit on your keychain, but super versatile still. The adjustable wrench can open up pretty wide for it’s size, and it’s tininess is actually an asset, letting you get into all kinds of tight areas. It also sports a razor-sharp blade inside, and it’s tail is a flat-blade screwdriver bit. Need a Phillips head? It conveniently slips right out from inside. Of course it wouldn’t be a multi-tool without a bottle opener, so it performs that duty as well.

Wrench tightens nuts by hand, literally

Wrench tightens nuts by hand, literally
Normally cranking your nuts by hand is frowned upon. I guess that’s no longer the case. Surprisingly, this tool was not designed for booty grabbing hijinx within automotive shops. I think. I’m really not sure why it was designed, but we love it. I’d be surprised if it worked as good as a regular wrench, but it’s a great way to add some comedy to your otherwise serious toolbox.

Everytime you adjust the fingers to fit your needs, it’s as if a little hand is holding two fingers up saying, “Do you love me this much?” and so forth. It’s all rather creepy, truth be told. I think it has to be used for evil. Yes, I think it must be made to pinch a woman’s butt at least once in it’s career.

K2 EMF meter makes ghostbusting a breeze

K2 EMF meter makes ghostbusting a breeze
If ghostbusting is your thing, you’ll want to check out this K2 EMF meter before you get slimed. EMF (electromagnetic field) energy is similar to what is emitted by your gadgets. The device is simple and portable and will have you catching ghosts so easily that you’ll hear them cursing you out when you review your audio recorder for EVP(Electronic voice phenomenon).

The device has 5 LEDs for different levels of EMF. It even knows the difference between EMF emitted by you and your gadgets and by paranormal spookery. EMF from gadgets will light up the LEDs and remain steady. Paranormal activity makes the meter spike since spooks emit a pulsating EMF energy. An otherworldly specter will cause all 5 LEDs to light up and flash. I can attest to this, since I have one and it did the exact same thing when my mother-in-law came over.

Spyderco Byrdwrench multi-tool

Posted in Tools by Conner Flynn on May 13th, 2008

Spyderco Byrdwrench multi-toolThe Spyderco Byrdwrench has an odd name. It’s not a wrench made by spiders for birds who spell their name with a Y like the British rock band. That would just be silly. What it is, is a multi-tool that’s a bit different from some other multi-tools. It sports a combination of one-hand open knife, slip-joint pliers, bit driver, and an adjustable crescent wrench.

It’s also got a rough punch file/hole-starter and a steel belt clip, and can be separated into two halves to reveal the four screwdriver bits inside. While I’m sure it’s convenient and it does have an interesting sort of industrial look, I’m not really sold on the idea that it’s somehow better then my trusty Leatherman multi-tool. The price is about the same at $77. If anyone has one, let me know how you like it.

See what you’re screwing in the dark
Sometimes the most frustrating problems have the simplest solutions. If you’ve ever needed to get out the screwdriver and fix something in the dark, then you know what a pain that can be. Even when you have light, you might not have it in the small area you are working in. That’s where this screwdriver comes in handy, offering a simple solution.

This collar will shed some light on your work, making your job easier. Just simply slip it over the business end of your screwdriver, rotate the ring, and you’ve got three powerful LEDs to see by. Only $14.95

The Hello Kitty power sander

The Hello Kitty power sander
File this one under Strong Enough For A Man But Made For A Woman…We’ve seen the evil that is the Hello Kitty brand on almost everything. Here it is in it’s toughest manly form ever… On a power sander. Um, let me just say that if I hired a construction contractor and he showed up with Hello Kitty tools, my faith in the structural soundness of anything he built would go out the window.

Would such a man even be able to get employees? I don’t know, but I’d be willing to bet that he’s got a pink laptop. In fact, the more I think about it, the more disturbed I am by such a man. Further proof that we aren’t exactly breeding any John Waynes these days.

Craftsman CompuCarve will carve anything

Craftsman CompuCarve
Hey oldtimer. Whittling is now officially dead. The Craftman CompuCarve brings it into the 21st century, so put away that pocket knife and clean up your mess. This is a fully automatic carving machine, capable of carving most soft materials like woods and plastics. It’s all done with assorted carving bits, which are easy to change with QuickRout technology.

It also has a pretty cool memory card system so you can load your designs. So you won’t need to consult the old garage computer first. Just design a 3-dimensional project, load it onto the memory card and insert it into the machine. It walks you through the rest. It’s a bit pricey, but if you do this sort of work regularly I imagine it’s well worth it at $1,800.

Digital tape measure mixes the old with the new

Digital tape measure
Just when you think everything that could go digital has already done so, another old standby gets a makeover. The tape measure has been the workman’s best friend for ages. It too has now gone digital. It looks like a standard retractable tape measure, but it includes an LCD display on the top that can display and store measurements down to 1/16 of an inch. It includes several different units for measurement and can take into account the length of the casing, when you are measuring in tight places.

When you pull the tape out it will automatically turn on and retracting it will turn it off. That way you don’t forget about it and find the device drained when you really need it. It’s only $25.

Ice goes away with the heated scraper

Posted in Tools by Chetz on December 12th, 2007

Rechargeable cordless heated ice scraperFrosty frozen mornings are here and if you commute to work using your own vehicle then you know all about taking extra time to get your windshield and side view windows ice and frost free. One neat concept that seems especially practical for this task is a rechargeable cordless heated ice scraper designed to clear up your vehicle’s view. Available on Amazon.com by Get Organized, you simply charge up the scraper using your car’s power/lighter outlet and then pull it out when you need to get the ice away. With no batteries needed or a power cord to get in the way the scraper heats up fast and can remove up to 4 inches of ice and snow from your windshield lickety split. A charge is good for up to three hours of power and when the windshield is all clear the scraper automatically shuts off. Priced at $16.99 it would make a great stocking stuffer along with a new pair of thermal mitts (or indoor parking.)

Contractor Space Pen Tool can write any different materials and in cold weatherChances are that if you are reading a technology/gadget blog like the ‘Brick or any others that your day job isn’t too, shall we say, hands on? Not to be rude to our construction or contractor readers but most of us are office cubical dwellers and any physical labor we do is in our off-hours. This handy device doesn’t care if you need it 80 hours a week or for the odd repair job around your home but it’s worthy of the attention of both groups.

Say hello to the Contractor Space Pen Tool. This handy gadget is ideal for worksites as its makers guarantee that it will be able to write on drywall, wood, metal, glass, plastic and rubber and in extremely chilly environments (up to -50F). The ruler is marked off in centimeters and inches, there are two levels, a plumb and an angle gauge. The only things that the Space Pen doesn’t do is call home for you or act as a stand-in remote control when you lose your main one in the cushions of your couch. Weekend home reno warriors can easily afford this novel invention at a cost of just $24.99.
