Posted in DVR, Digital Video, Spy Gear by Darrin Olson on July 15th, 2007

Black-Box DVRThis is claimed to be the world’s smallest DVR under $3k and we have to admit that we haven’t seen one smaller, especially for under that price. The descriptions on the site lean towards those a little on the sneaky side wanting to video and record with a hidden system and the Black-Box DVR looks like it would be perfect.

Measuring only a total of 2.28 square inches it records at 30 fps and a 640×480 resolution onto an SD card which it supports up to 4GB. It also has a power AV-in port which connects and powers an included CCD quality miniature camera. You aren’t going to be able to take any high quality video recordings with the Black-Box DVR but it’s definitely small enough to hide just about anywhere on your person. Mini Gadgets has this retailing for well under $3k running $499.95.

GPS Embedding Sniper Rifle

Posted in GPS, Spy Gear by Reuben Drake on March 9th, 2007

GPS Sniper RifleThe Danish company Empire North is currently working on a special kind of sniper rifle. When gamers hear the words ‘sniper rifle’ they immediately think of some first person shooter game or another. However, this is not the case with this particular rifle.

Empire North is working on a GPS-based sniper rifle dubbed ID Sniper that is built to embed a tiny GPS tracking device on a target up to 1.1km away. This rifle will also be able to take pictures of the ‘target’ with the scope. Straight from the movies, the target will not feel the GPS device hit him/her/it.

Empire North states that, “it feels like getting a small mosquito bite and that [the] pain is absolutely minimal.” This rifle, taken directly from Hollywood, is sure to have some useful purposes.

Xaver-800 Sees Through WallsThe folks at Camero have developed a device that can “see” through walls for military and law enforcement agencies during urban operations.

The Xaver 800 uses a novel and patented approach by employing ultra-wideband (UWB) RF signals to create 3D images of people and other objects that are otherwise hidden behind solid barriers such as a wall. The device can render the objects in 3D, and is able to see through wall-type barriers made of cement, plaster, brick, and wood.

The 3D images are returned in real-time and allow the objects being viewed to be watched from multiple angles, which could help in many situations to provide life-saving information. Camero states that the Xaver 800 is safe despite the signals it emits to view items through walls, and that the total energy that is actually transmitted is only a fraction of what is emitted …
