Sony announced the availability of Media Manager for its PSP gaming system. The new software for PC facilitates the transfer of multimedia content to a PSP system.

This new release builds on the initial version of the software released last November. This is great news for the millions of PSP owners who use their systems for more than just gaming. This particularly cool GPS gadget system from Sony will help you keep track not only of the time that your photos were taken, but where they were taken at.

The Sony GPS-CS1 calculates and records latitude and longitude data every 15 seconds for up to 14 hours with the high end batteries. You take the GPS device with you when you are out shooting pictures and have it running the whole time. When you are complete the GPS device matches it’s time with the time stamp of your digital photos and applies locations where they were taken based on the closest matching times. If you use the supplied Motion Browser software, the position points can be uploaded to a map to allow you to organize your photos geographically.

Sony Corp. has recently stated that it may not be reaching it’s shipment target for this year with the PlayStation 3 game console due to a crossover parts shortage with the Blu-ray high-definition disc drive. Sony’s plans are to ship two million PS3 players before the end of this year in the U.S. and Japan, and six million worldwide in Q1 of next year.

“The honest answer is it’s more of a target’” for PlayStation 3 shipments, Jack Tretton, co-chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment America, said yesterday in an interview. “Clearly we’ve had production issues.”

A smaller number of shipped PS3 consoles would give Microsoft XBox and Nintendo Wii a jump on already competitive console market when they have their consoles go out next month in time for the holiday buying season.

The noise canceling feature is what is being boasted by Sony’s new NW-700 series Walkman‘s, but there is more in this new offering than just that.

First things first, the new MP3 player Walkman has a tiny specialized microphone in the ear bud that it uses to pick up external noise and apply noise canceling sound. This is great when in a plane, car or in a busy place so you can better hear just want you want to hear. Noise canceling headphones are great, and ear bud styles make it even better.

Today Sony announced the upcoming Altus portable stereo headphones. These new headphones are designed to give those finicky listeners the high-fidelity audio they demand in a portable headset that can be used at home, in the office or on the go.

The high-definition driver units on this headset deliver up to 80 kilohertz frequency response, which enables the Altus headphones to deliver pristine, high-quality sound previously unavailable in a portable headphone.

“We named this product Altus to represent the incredibly high frequencies and natural-sounding audio the headphones deliver,” said Jim Leahey, Sony’s general manager for peripherals and enhancements.

The Altus headphones will be available in November and will retail for about $150. You can pre-order the headphones at sonystyle.

This new MP3 player from Sony definitely has the athlete in mind when they designed it. When you look at the NW-S205 Walkman it has athlete written all over it, beginning with the small and sleek design.

The NW-S205 (part of the new NW-S200 series from Sony) is only 3.8 inches long and has a diameter of .6 inches. The trade off for having something this small is the interface. It only has a one line small visual interface for reading the information, and some small twist and rocker controls to navigate, but once you get it running you are set.

The Sony VAIO UX Series Micro PC works basically like a regular PC, but smaller. It runs the regular version of Windows XP and the VGN-UX280P pictured here has 40 GB hard drive and an Intel Core Solo Processor at 1.2 GHz and 1 GB of memory (this is the max allowed).

The Sony Micro PC has a keyboard and a touch screen stylus, so you can use either depending on what you are doing with it. The battery runs from 2 to 4 hours and can run up to 9 hours with a larger capacity battery. There is also a port replicator available for the Sony Micro PC so you can dock it and use a full size keyboard and monitor when you would like. The popular Sony MDR-EX71SL/WK headphones are an easy to remember, roll-off-the-tongue type of name that should make them easy to find on the internet.

The Walkman really come a long way, and the contrast in neat to see with this new Sony W950i Walkman compared to the original Walkman of 1979.

The W950i Walkman is a mobile phone that will be released in the near future with an music player and a nice big touchscreen with big buttons to make navigation easy. (The original Walkman had big buttons, too.)
