Adobe Releases PDF to Seek ISO Standardization

Adobe PDF to Seek ISO StandardizationThe Portable Document Format (PDF) is the ubiquitous document format used by both the public and private sector to securely exchange and preserve information. Adobe published the complete PDF specification in 1993 and has been committed to making the PDF an open standard within recent years.

In an effort to reinforce their “commitment to openness”, Adobe has announced that it intends to release the full PDF 1.7 specification to AIIM for ISO standardization. AIIM will be responsible for identifying issues and will develop a draft document that will then be presented to ISO for development and approval as an International Standard.

Going back to 1995, Adobe has a long history of working within the ISO process to deliver various specialized subsets of PDF as standards for specific industries and functions. PDF for Archive and PDF for Exchange are already ISO standards, …

Microsoft to Sell Windows Vista via DownloadMicrosoft revealed three new mechanisms for customers looking to buy, upgrade, or otherwise license Windows Vista. The new options are designed to offer greater flexibility in obtaining the new operating system and to ensure users have the edition of Windows Vista that matches their needs. The announcement is made in the shadow of the worldwide availability of Windows Vista on January 30th.

The new purchase options are:

Windows Anytime UpgradeWindows Anytime Upgrade allows customers to upgrade their current version of Windows Vista to a more advanced or feature-rich edition through an Internet transaction. This option will be available in the Start menu in Windows and allows users to select the desired upgrade version and purchase it online.

Darwiin Remote for WiiDarwiinRemote is an open source software application and framework that allows you to use the Wiimote to control the applications on your Mac by using it as a mouse or mapping the Wiimote buttons. The Wiimote is one of the revolutionary controllers for the new Nintendo Wii game console.

DarwiinRemote works by syncing with the Wiimote using the Bluetooth connection on your Mac. DarwiinRemote reads data to and from Wiimote and captures the various events raised by the controller. With the DarwiinRemote Framework you can monitor acceleration, buttons, sensor bar, LEDs, and the Rumble feature.

The DarwiinRemote interface displays a graph of all three acceleration forces acting on the Wiimote. When you move the Wiimote, the graph shows the intensity of force. In addition, a log records the history of the commands sent out by the Wiimote.

Windows Vista security flaws found, downlpayed.Windows Vista, the latest and greatest OS from Microsoft, hasn’t even been released to general consumers yet and experts are finding vulnerability exploits and related code being sold and discussed on the internet through underground sites. This operating system has been touted by Microsoft as being the most secure operating system yet, but the security has been brought into question due to some flaws reported on a Russian and US sites recently.

One of the threats involves a hacker gaining additional privileges to a PC through direct access to the PC or through someone installing software with the hack. This is according to Mikko Hypponen, a chief research officer for F-Secure Corp. “The bottom line is you couldn’t use a vulnerability like this to write a worm or hack a Vista system remotely,” Hypponen said. “It only has historical significance in …

Samsung Makes Deal with Opera for Mobile BrowserOslo, Norway – Today Opera Software announced that they are going to partner with Samsung Electronics to offer the Opera Mobile web browser on future Samsung handsets.

Most web sites on the internet are not designed to be viewed on mobile devices with smaller screens, but the Opera Mobile web browser uses Opera’s Small Screen Rendering to format the web pages so that they can be viewed better on the smaller mobile devices, even if the sites were not designed that way. Standard sized web sites have been available for viewing through any mobile web browser, but unless reformatted they are difficult to read and to navigate.

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Beta Release Today Adobe has announced that on Friday it will release a beta version of Adobe Photoshop CS3. Probably the most significant point in this release (and the driving point in our post) is the fact that it is a universal binary version allowing it to run on Mac’s with the new Intel chip, and and at the same time not forgetting about their Windows customers by supporting XP and Vista. Adobe says this is to allow a smoother transition to newer hardware platforms, namely the Mac.

TomTom Navigator 6TomTom Navigator 6 is a software and hardware package that you can use with your existing smartphone or PDA. At first glance it may look as though this is another TomTom GPS device, but it is actually the navigational software and a wireless GPS receiver to integrate with your existing phone or PDA.
The software comes preloaded on a mini SD memory card with your country map and cross border navigation to anywhere in Europe. The wireless Bluetooth GPS receiver is the only actual significant piece of hardware. This is a pretty small device, but in some cases it may be actually bigger than your smart device your hooking it up to. This is to receive the GPS signal and transfer it to your handheld device.
