Space Explorer lighting for the final frontier

Space Explorer overhead lighting

It’s getting easier to decorate that Sci-Fi or space themed decor these days. This Space Explorer lamp is for anyone who has ever dreamed of being an astronaut, young or old. I want one yesterday.

It’s got alot of detail with thruster lights and the required floating astronauts, along with what appears to be a space station. This is the perfect companion piece to that Starship Enterprise that you have hanging on your ceiling already. It will cost you $185. Money is no object when making your room a Sci-Fi Space scene. It’s basically one small step for astronauts and one giant leap for cool overhead lighting.

Star trekking from your armchair

star_trek_movie_theater.jpgThe next logical step once you have a home theater room is to find a way to make it truly unique. Some people do that by having it look like the interior of a real movie theater while others are more interested in turning it into a luxury den. But one home owner in Palm Beach County, FL took their love of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” to its fullest and transformed their home theater into the bridge of the USS Enterprise-D. Geeky? Yes. Something that you are envious of? That too.

The entire Star Trek rec area measuring 70 feet by 22 feet and is actually three rooms: the viewing room, a bar and a lounge area with its own life-sized Robby the Robot model. This Star Trek nerd heaven took six months to build from start to finish and uses one of the largest Kaleidescape …

R2-D2 Soy Sauce bottle: disturbance in the force

R2-D2 Soy Sauce bottle

We all love R2-D2, but this may be taking things to the extreme. For those who love the little droid too much and at the same time have an unhealthy obsession with Soy Sauce, the two have been combined. Just pour your soy sauce into R2(The liquid kind, not the sorta liquid kind), pop R2′s head back on and start pouring sauce from the little bot.

Seriously, did you ever think you would see the day when soy sauce pours forth from a droid head? I’m actually kinda disturbed, but I know some of you will find it cool. But wait, it gets better…

Make your own Blu-ray laser phaser

Posted in PS3,Sci-Fi,Toys by Chetz on November 12th, 2007

Working Blu-ray phaser from PS3The mission for “Star Trek” has always been to boldly go where no one has gone before, to seek out new life and new civilizations but really, we all just wanted the cool gadget that Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock got to play with. We’ve turned our mobile phones into things that resemble those neat palm-sized communicators the Enterprise crew had and we’re working on the transporter next. For those fans that really want to own a piece of the Enterprise there are models, props and toys made to resemble Starfleet’s best including a toy model of “Star Trek”‘s futuristic gun, a phaser. But why hasn’t some toy company made a phaser that actually emits a laser beam when you fire it? You think that with the low cost of today’s lasers that some toy manufacturer would have leapt on this idea. Leave it to one creative individual to make our geek dreams come true!

Betta Aquarium: cruel to fish – cool to see

Fish In Space

Here is a very cool looking retro Sci-Fi style aquarium called Fish In Space. It’s also very small for the poor fish. The thing is only powered by 2 button cell batteries for goodness sake. How would you like to be the fish whose life depended on 2 button cell batteries? It has glow in the dark stars that look neat in the night time. The UFO on top beams some cool lighting into the aquarium too. I bet the fish wishes that it would abduct it’s sorry scales out of there.

Still isn’t it every intelligent civilization’s goal to put fish into outer space? Well, after seeing the picture, I think we can all be convinced that it should be right at the top of the list.

Golfsmith Star Trek Enterprise PutterI’m not much of a golfer myself, but if I was, the Golfsmith Star Trek Enterprise NCC-1701 putter would be a great way to scare the ladies away and get my geek on.

In fact I would say that this is a must for that rare breed of golfer/Trekkie in your life. The retail price on these is $130 and they will be an extremely limited run of…you guessed it, a quantity of 1701.

Luke Skywalkers lightsaber will be brought into outer spaceThe lightsaber wielded by Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker in the original 1977 “Star Wars” is being prepared to take a real-life trip out of this world. The movie prop was given yesterday to representatives from NASA by a troop of people dressed up as “Star Wars” characters so it can take a trip on an upcoming Space Shuttle flight scheduled for liftoff in October. A fan dressed up in a Wookiee costume presented the lightsaber to NASA officials in a ceremony observed by the media. To further publicize the special Shuttle trip Luke’s lightsaber will be on display through Labor Day at the Space Center in Houston right beside moon rocks and other astronomical rarities.

The Space Shuttle Discovery will hold the geeky honor of ferrying the ‘saber onboard mission STS-120 scheduled to take off on October 27. The Shuttle …

Posted in News,Sci-Fi,Star Wars by Chris Weber on January 2nd, 2007

Stormtroopers, Sand people, Ewoks and all the favorite characters from Star Wars including Darth Vader and R2-D2 marched into Pasadena for the Rose Bowl Parade.

The parade featured a three part ensemble called the ”Star Wars Spectacular.” The entry commemorated the 30th anniversary of the release of the first Star Wars film in 1977. George Lucas was on hand as well as a large group of Star Wars fans who dressed up as Storm Troopers to march in the parade. Lucas also served as the Grand Marshal of th parade. The Storm Troopers were from the Bloodfin Garrison of the 501st Legion, a Star Wars fan club located in Indiana.
