When Samsung introduced its sprint exclusive Instinct handset it even looked a lot like the iPhone and many wondered if it would be another disappointment. Samsung is rolling out a “green phone”, the W510, made out of bio-plastic, which is a natural material from corn. Therefore, making one of these phones won’t pollute as much as manufacturing a typical cell phone would. The Korean market will be getting it this month.

Samsung also unveiled another green phone, the F268, which has an alarm function that alerts you every time it is fully charged. That way, you won’t waste any power by leaving it plugged in. It also sports accessories which don’t contain any BFRs (Brominated Flame Retardant) or PVC.

Samsung announces Blue Phase 240Hz LCD

Posted in Samsung by Shane McGlaun on May 14th, 2008

Samsung Blue Phase LCDAt CES back in 2007 there were several demonstrations of 60Hz TVs next to 120Hz TVs. The difference in image quality achieved through going from 60 to 120Hz was very impressive. Samsung wasn’t content to sit on its 120Hz laurels and has announced the first Blue Phase LCD panel.

Whereas 120Hz sets on the current market use overdrive circuits to achieve 120Hz, the Blue Phase panel will not require any overdrive circuits. Samsung also says that the design is extremely cost efficient thanks to not needing liquid crystal alignment layers like today’s LCD panels do.

Samsung 2263DX 22-inch display with 7-inch LCD Grafted on

Posted in Samsung by Shane McGlaun on April 25th, 2008

Samsung 2263DX LCDIf the Samsung 2263DX 22-inch LCD is Dr. Evil, the small 7-inch LCD grafted onto it would definitely be Mini Me. The idea is that the main 22-inch screen can be used for normal work and the secondary 7-inch screen can be used to extend your desktop to keep other stuff visible.

I guess you could use the little screen for IM applications, RSS feeds, and TV watching or other things. The 7-inch screen attaches to the main display via an arm that allows it to be mounted to either side of the main display or above it. The small display connects to the main display via a mini USB cable so you don’t need to directly connect the small screen to your computer.

Samsung announces S2 Pebble and S3 Slim PMPs

Samsung Announces S3 and S2 PMPsLong gone are the days when a PMP was a simple rectangular device with not much thought to the looks of the device. Sure Apple still makes mostly rectangular MP3 players with its iPod line, but many other PMP makers are looking to more organic shapes and bright colors to woo buyers.

Samsung announced a pair of new PMPs called the S2 Pebble and the S3 Slim Portable Media Player. As you can guess from the Pebble designation with the S2 the PMP has a rounded pebble shape. It is only available in 1GB capacity and can be had in green, purple, red, black, and white colors. The Pebble lacks any display and has its controls on the back for a clean and uncluttered look. Supported file formats include MP3, WMA, and OGG.
